The rise in Sea Level
Introduction
The research report is going to examine the major causes of the rise in sea levels along with
its impacts on coastal animals, coastal cities and global population. In this context, carbon-di-
oxide originated from factories combined with the methane liberated from agriculture
wastage form greenhouse gases (Nunez, 2019). Such greenhouse gases when trapped inside
the earth atmosphere causes global warming which ultimately leads to a rise in sea levels.
Hence, the sea level has risen from 6.6 cm from 1993 to 2014 which is posing threat to the
global population (National Ocean Service, 2019).
The rise in sea level
The sea levels are rising because human activities like burning oil have enhanced the
overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. In this context, three major components
include carbon di-oxide; nitrogen oxide and methane are together cause the formation of
greenhouse gases. Out of the three major elements, carbon-di-oxide gets released into the
atmosphere due to burning different fossil fuels. Besides, nitrogen oxide and methane both
are the by-products of different reactions where fossil fuels burn such as transportation,
electoral power generation, and agriculture. Here, drastic environment activities like
population increase, deforestation, and destruction of marine eco-system are escalating the
greenhouse emissions (Acciona, 2019). As forests along with marine eco-system
considerably absorb carbon di-oxide hence the destruction of the both is increasing
greenhouse emission. In this way, an increase in water temperature level is leading to the
expansion of more water hence expanded sea water is leading to a rise in sea levels. On the
other hand, global warming always leads to melting of gigantic ice glaciers of Arctica and
Antarctica which ultimately leads to more water added to the oceans which again raises the
sea level considerably (Chu, 2015).
In the context of rising in sea levels, when these levels are rising as quickly as they
have been, that even a tiny hike may have many bad impacts on coastal habitats further
inland (The Department of the Environment and Heritage, 2005). Furthermore, this will cause
adverse effects on life at earth in the form of contamination of drinking water, interference of
