Abstract
The paper anticipates investigating international aid effectiveness in the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC). DRC is a poor country found in Africa continent. The research will, therefore,
measure whether international aid received by DRC is used to help the poor people or is used to
benefit the government. In order to investigate the effectiveness of the aid the research will use a
questionnaire and interviews as a method of collecting data. The research opts to visit different
areas within the countries investigating how aid is helping poor people. The conclusion will be
based on whether international aid need to focus on poor people in DRC but not the country.
Background
Basically, international aid refers to any form of assistance given by a country to another country
(Randel, German & Ewing, 2013 p.76). International, therefore, is given to those countries which
have a weak economy that cannot fully support the entire population. This means that most of
the wealthy countries such as the USA provide foreign assistance to the poor countries in the
world such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Therefore, different findings indicate
that foreign aid is official development assistance which most of the times it targets to reduce the
poverty level within the poor country. Through the reduction of the poverty level, foreign aid
also seeks to raise the entire economic level in poor countries. There are different bodies which
provide foreign aid to poor countries. We have organizations such as the World Food
Programme which is one of the organization in the United Nations which provides food help to
poor countries. The organization provides food substances to its members thus supporting the
lives of different people from poor countries (Randel, German & Ewing, 2013 p.176).

Sociology
The manifestation of poverty to poor people includes increased hunger, malnutrition and limited
access to various basic services. In addition poverty subjects poor people to be excluded from the
social groups thus not participating in the decision making process with the country (Ratha, 2013
p.176). It is through all these negative aspects whereby the international aid groups have
emerged so as to assist the society on eradicating poverty. Poverty has surrounded a lot of poor
countries thus affecting the lives of many people. The aim of international aids is to eradicate
poverty within the nation. Poverty tends to entail more of a lack of adequate income and lack of
productive resources which can help in maintaining sustainable livelihoods within the nation
In the research, the main issue will be identifying how different countries are using international
aid received from the wealthiest nations and other assisting organizations. The research will try
to come out with adequate knowledge showing how poor countries are using international aid
from wealthy nations (Sumner, 2012 p.140). Therefore, in order to describe the topic of the
study, the research will investigate how poor countries are using foreign aid received from
wealthy nations. The selected country (poor) is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) while
the wealth country which provides foreign aid is the United Nations (UN).
Research problem
The research question for the research will be; how poor countries are using the foreign aid
received from wealthy nations and other international aid organizations? The title of the research
shows how international aids should focus on poor people and not the country. This means that
international aids should concentrate on helping the poor but not the country at large. Therefore,
from the research question, the research will, therefore, investigate how poor country such as
DRC is using the foreign aids received from the USA (Sumner, 2012 p.190).The main issue I to
discover whether the DRC government is using foreign aid to assist poor people or it using it for
