Bastian, (2012) in the book chapter entitled “Immigration, multiculturalism and the
changing face of Australia discusses the issues that are related to the multiculturalism and the
ways in which the concerned Australians tended to adapt to the immigration of the people of the
Asian cultural backgrounds to the Australian territories. The chapter opens with the author’s
reflection on his childhood days and the issues that he had experienced in the matters that were
related to the multiculturalism within the given organization (Bastian, 2012). The author
proceeds with the article with a discussion on the changes that had overtaken the Australian
community over a timespan of almost 200 years since the independence of the country. The
author states that the Australian society has been observed to incorporate the immigrations form
the other countries that are inclusive of the developing countries that are mostly found in the
Asian continent (Bastian, 2012). The author suggests that the immigrations from the various
countries have resulted in the period that was dedicated to the adjustment on the part of the
immigrants as well as the people who have been residing in the given areas of Australia.
The author suggests that the concerned immigrants as well as their culture have found a
merger with the cultural factors that are found in the Australian society. The author further states
that the changes that are presented within the given society should find a proper reflection in the
attitudes and the behaviors of the residents as well. The author in this chapter attempts a
discussion on the concept of the identity that is maintained by the people who have been residing
