Software Defined Wireless Network: Benefits and Challenges

This article discusses the benefits and challenges of using Software Defined Wireless Network (SDN) in wireless communication. It also provides solutions to overcome the challenges faced while implementing SDN in wireless networks. The article highlights the importance of SDN and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) in developing 5G networks. The subject of the article is wireless networking and the course code and college/university are not mentioned.

Critical reflection
From the two articles, we can conclude that wireless networks are facing several
challenges in the market because of the inflexibility and high cost for infrastructure. Therefore,
mobile network operators are looking for the network that will increase the flexibility and will be
able to easily manage the network and fasten the development.
According to the Bernardos et al., (2014) , software of wireless networking can be
developed by introducing high level architecture. The main aim of the author is to discuss about
the benefits of using SDN. SDN improves the working, increases efficiency. As software,
defined networking is being adopted by wired networking as it provides a different section for
control and data planes. But in this article , SDN is suggested for wireless communication , so
that it can benefit in increasing the performance and will also increase and work on some specific
features that will help in improving the wireless network (Jover, 2016). There are several other
benefits that comes along with adoption of SDN in wireless network.
In the second article, the author describes the problems faced by the wireless networks. In
order to overcome the problems, SDN is being introduced in the wireless networking. This will
help to reduce the problems regarding inflexibility and high cost of infrastructure. The SDN
helps to make the networks more flexible and agile as the tasks performed by control plane and
data plane are being separated. SDN plays a major role on network function virtualization In
order to deploy mobile networks. Beside SDN and NVF , MEC (mobile edge computing ) is
evolved as a new platform , that is offering IT services and cloud services for their end users
(Oksar, 2014). There are several issues faced while implementing SDN in wireless networks.
The solution is also being provided in order to overcome the problem. In this article the roles of

different networking is being discussed in order to design 5G networks (Rangisetti & Tamma,
2017).
According to me, SDN will improve the architecture of wireless network in specific parts
such as interfaces, modules and high level signaling. Also wit this the potential of the wireless
network increases. There is a need of SDN and NFV, so that the wireless network can develop to
the maximum possible stage. In the second article the solutions for 4G/5G, is being discussed in
details. Finally, the article gives a detail design for SDN, NFV and MEC in developing 5G
networks.
