Speech and Reflection
In each and every career, there are a lot of challenges which come across especially when
it is at the early stages. Most of these challenges are associated with the lack of role models,
finances, and above all, figuring out about the future. Personally, I am pursuing a career in
Healthcare Administration which like any other career, has a lot of challenges. One of the best
ways to talk about careers is by delivering a speech (Azar et al., 2015, pp. 141). In this paper, I
will be delivering a speech on my career, Healthcare Administration, and reflecting on the
delivery of my speech thereafter.
The Speech
Good morning everyone, I want to thank you all for attending this special meeting today.
This is the day that I am going to talk to you about my career and everything that revolves
around my profession without forgetting what the future holds for me. First and foremost, it is an
honor to have you all here today. Besides all that, I will share the specific concerns and
challenges that I attribute and expect to come across in the future. When I woke up today and
started preparing for this speech, I reflected when it all began, my dream to become a Healthcare
Administrator. I got this interest from my uncle, who was a doctor. This is very interesting given
that I only lived with him for just a year. Since then, I have never given up in achieving this
dream. As I stand here, I believe that every goal is valid, which explains as to why I am focused
and giving this beautiful speech. Despite the many challenges and obstacles, I never have, and
will not give up on this career. In like three semesters, I have gained experience and substantial
knowledge which I believe will be crucial in my future career as a Healthcare Administrator.
Recently, I have attempted to use the knowledge I learned in class in a bid to improve my
professionalism and the overall skills required in the healthcare sector. In retrospective, I believe

I have all it takes to become a Healthcare Administrator. Despite this, I also feel that there are
sections in the healthcare administration dispositions that I sure need to improve on significantly
(Buerhaus et al., 2017, pp 44). My strengths and weaknesses will, therefore, determine either my
success or failure in this career. As a student with a degree in Health Care, I would be committed
to working in any hospital setting. To learn about the future of my career, I have researched
different material that I would like to share with you today. I believe that by sharing these
expectations, I can also get some help from you. I am a stronger believer of the saying that a
problem shared, is a problem half solved. From the research, I found out that my personality fits
this type of career, and I can make significant contributions once I become a Health Care
Administrator. I researched the possible compensation in this career, the types of setting I would
work in and examples of the challenges that I am likely to face.
There are many responsibilities that I believe I will have to undertake in this industry.
One of the duties will be preparing accurate reports based on the findings of the department’s
budget as well as keeping records of the medical supplies (Campo et al., 2015, pp. 207). This
means that I also need to have some skills in accounting. In case there are any changes in the
industry, I will also be required to discuss them with other employees. Everybody here can agree
with me that no work can be accomplished if there are no schedules available to the employees
(Kress, 2018, pp. 56). Is there anybody with a divergent opinion? This will be my primary role.
The industry will also require me to coordinate with other health care professionals like doctors
and nurses to identify and solve their needs.
One of the most crucial requirements for health care professionals is to provide quality
health care services to the patients (Charlina et al., 2018, pp. 7110). This is what I will be
required to do throughout my career. Throughout our lives, education has been as a fundamental

need for everybody (Horowitz, 2017, pp. 67). Regardless of the type of career that one
undertakes, it is investable. It is a continuous process, and it is a privilege to have it. This means
that much of what I have not learnt yet will be gained practically in the field.
Besides the responsibilities that I think I will have in the future career, I will also share
with you the skills that I believe make me fit for this career. I also believe that the skills will help
me in solving the challenges. A Health care Administrator is expected to be a ladder between the
patients and other healthcare professionals (Delgado et al., 2018, pp. 498). This will be one of
my most significant responsibilities in this career. Each career has challenges and obstacles. Its
however possible to mitigate them.
Due to this fact, my contribution to solving the challenges will be highly required. I will
have to combine my business and health care skills too. People have, for a long time, believed in
the old analogy that such problems could not come to an end (Hodges, 2015, pp. 3). I am very
optimistic that, to a very significant degree, will help solve many of these challenges. I will
ensure that I provide an excellent and comprehensive education that will address communication
barriers between the patients, health care employees and professionals. Such will help enhance
and develop a set of values that will ensure a smooth running in the place of work. This will also
strengthen the code of ethics that will enhance the dedication of all health care professionals.
Cutting the cost of expenditure is the dream of every manager today (Danielson et al.,
2015, pp. 6). Just like any other industry, the healthcare industry also requires mechanisms that
can be used to reduce such cost. My contribution towards these will be devising methods that
will keep the records of all expenses in the place of work. I will also recommend any techniques
that I hope will reduce the cost of expenditure on hospitals. According to Matt Wilson and
Lawrence Robinson, competition for health care is a common challenge. The main reason is that

there are very few people pursuing this career. My contribution will have to put a plan to recruit,
hire and retain skilled healthcare professionals.
Every industry needs to specialize in the future; however, this has been very difficult to
be specific in the healthcare industry (Hyland & Hyland, 2019, pp. 49). To counter this
challenge, I will ensure that up-date technology facilities are available in the hospital. This will
aid in preparing for the future. With such a solid understanding of the health care industry and
some problem-solving skills, I believe I will achieve much as a Health care Administrator. Thank
you.
Speech Reflection
The speech is given in the simplest way possible with clarity in the terms used, which
makes it pretty and noticeable, which should be an attribute in every speech. The speech begins
by greeting the audience, which is a trick used to capture their attention (Sarimanah et al., 2019,
pp. 147). This is very crucial in every speech since it’s a way of capturing the attention of the
audience which also makes them to concentrate on the piece. The speaker also starts with the
unexpected; the speech starts by “I stand here today” which creates a neck-up for everybody
listening to the speech (Abdallah, 2014, pp. 176). By using such words, the audience will
obviously ‘lend’ their ears to the speaker in anticipation of where they will be taken next. The
speech also uses logical levels to include the audience in the solution. The audience has
questions to answer within the discourse and provide their contributions too.
The speech begins by applying one of the Brookfield’s language tricks. This is use of
personal stories in speech (Brookfield, 2011, p.50). This helps set the tone of the speech. The
story also makes the aspect of minimalism by the speaker even before introducing the main idea.

Before the start of the speech, the audience has pre-existing interests, and the story will help
them to create new categorical interest with the speaker.
The speech also uses argumentative moves to win the audience concentration. The
speaker quotes the works of other people. This is very critical since the audience is left to
compare the take of both speakers about the challenges encountered in pursuing a career in
healthcare administration and how to overcome them. The speaker compares the words of Matt
Wilson and Lawrence Robinson in his speech (Hayashi, 2018, pp. 47). The speaker also uses a
trick that is appealing to reason. He uses this trick to persuade the audience to agree with his
arguments. Just by using common sense, the audience will give an affirmative answer to the
question.
The speaker has made the speech about the audience and keeps on asking those
questions. The answer that the speaker gets from the audience can be used to tell several things.
First, it can be used to measure the concentration level of the audience (Abadi & Sheikhtaheri,
2015, pp. 596). If the speaker does not get any answer from the audience, then it’s evident that
their concentration level is low. Secondly, the speaker can use such questions to measure his
audibility. If the speaker gets an answer to the questions, then it’s evident that the audience is
getting his speech right; otherwise, the speaker must raise his voice.
The speaker also makes the speech alive by introducing a story within the speech (Baig et
al., 2015, pp. 26). He narrates to the audience how the desire to become a Healthcare
Administrator began. Such break-through stories keep the audience alert. This is because they
obviously want to hear the next part of the story or maybe are optimistic that the speaker will use
more stores (Dreher & Griffiths, 2018, pp. 29). Language evaluation has played a very

significant role in the speech. When such evaluation is coupled with stories, the audiences will
an emotional investment in the speech, thereby creating active participation.
The categorical division is also evident in this speech. Each aspect or idea is in its
section. First, the speaker begins with the introduction part. He explains how he thinks the future
of the industry will be. Finally, he describes how he would contribute to solving the challenges
encountered in the health care sector — categorizing the sections improves clarity (De Jong &
Mora, 2017, pp.11). Symbolism is also used in the speech to introduce more meaning to the
words of the speaker. The use of a ladder in his speech means that he will be responsible for
connecting different professionals in the healthcare sector.
Assurance is also used in the speech. The author talks about the challenges that are
almost inevitable in pursuing his career as a Healthcare Administrator. These are the same
challenges that require most of his contribution. Despite all this, he keeps on assuring the
audience that he will never give up. This is evident from the last part of the speech. The
assurance makes the audience to have the same believes and views as the speaker on the subject
matter (Frederiksen, 2017, p. 465). At the same time, the author uses the phrase to warn people
about choosing the wrong career. Finally, the speaker closes the speech by thanking the audience
for listening to him. By using the word “Thank you,” it’s a clear indication that the speech has
come to an end, and we the audience doesn’t expect anything more from the speaker.
Conclusion
Each career has its challenges, many of which cut through all sectors. Having to deliver a
speech gives a platform for everyone to highlight the challenges that are felt are linked to his
career. This also creates a chance to think about any possible solutions to such problems. Also,
reflecting on the speech gives the readers and other listeners a chance to critics. In this case, the
