INTRODUCTION Staff training and development is a process of company in order to improve the performance of the employees. This report shows a detailed study of staff training and development , its clarity and organizational overview. It also shows the issues or challenges related to staff training and development with the help of some real life examples.
Organizational Overview Sainsbury was established in 1869 in London. It is one of the leading and second largest supermarkets in UK. The subsidiaries of Sainsbury are Sainsbury supermarkets Ltd., Sainsbury Banks and Argos. The organization has a wide range of products such as grocery items, clothing, electronics, etc. It also serve customers online.

Staff training and development There are several benefits of employee training and development such as- Directing weaknesses- Some companies put efforts and evaluate its workers closely so that they are able to know their weaknesses. Sainsbury's training and development programs Some common training methods used by Sainsbury for staff training and development are as follows: Orientations- Sainsbury gives orientation training mainly to the new joiners that facilitates information of the firm about its strategies, mission, vision, goals and objectives etc. Lectures- Lectures are suitable for the purpose to provide some information to the workers collectively or as a large group at once. Computer based training (CBT)- This approach facilitates computer based training through clear communication between the trainer and employees.
Application of HRM theories- Some major theories of staff training and development are as follows: Theory of Reinforcement-The theory of reinforcement was proposed by Skinner. This theory focuses on the behaviour of the learners that how they learn the things and also suggest them to repeat that behaviour along with positive results. Theory of experimental learning-Thistheorywas presented by C. Rogers. There are two types of learningthat are experimental and cognitive learning and can be differentiated by theory of experimental learning.

Identification of issues- Issues or challenges related to the staff training and development are- ConflictManagement:Conflictmanagementisoneofthebiggestchallengeinfrontof organizations. As to trained the learners that how they can handle the conflict is very difficult and lacking of this skill directly affect the success of the firm. Resistance:It is also a major issue for the organizations at the time of training programs. If the employee refuse to do things or learn them and do not take any interest in accepting the methods of development and training it becomes difficult to teach them.
CONCLUSION From above, it can be concluded that staff training and development plays a vital role in order to upgrade the efficiency and productivity of the workers. It also boost the confidence of the employees and teach them effective communication.
