AI Summary
This report explores the significance of standardized nursing terminology in healthcare, emphasizing its role in enhancing communication and record-keeping accuracy. It discusses the procedures for educating nurses about the importance of standardized terminology, including meetings, code utilization demonstrations, and hands-on training with handbooks and guidelines. The report highlights the numerous benefits, such as improved information sharing, precise documentation, and efficient data analysis, ultimately leading to higher-quality nursing care. It also acknowledges the challenges, such as the need for comprehensive staff training and the importance of staying updated with coding standards like NANDA, NIC, and NOC. 1STANDARDIZED NURSING TERMINOLOGY
Introduction:
Standardized nursing terminology is a major part of standardized nursing language is
systematic documentation and record keeping procedure to enhance the efficiency and
accuracy of the healthcare services. The purpose of this paper are to discuss the procedures of
informing nurses about the importance of standardized nursing terminology and to discuss the
benefits as well as challenges of implementing standardized nursing terminologies in nursing
practices.
Informing nurses about the importance of standardized nursing terminology:
In order to implement the standardized nursing terminologies involvement of nurses
and associated healthcare workers is crucial. Therefore, as initiation a meeting will be
conducted with different healthcare service provider groups such as nurses, midwives and
other medical staffs in order to present the current limitations and complexities in medical
information sharing and record keeping procedures and the significance of utilising the
standardized nursing terminologies. After that the utilisation of codes associated in different
medical conditions will be presented to the nursing and other medical staffs. Some sample
cases will be also presented to them. Now they will be asked to record the entire medical case
details once with coding and once without coding. After recording, they will be asked to
review the case reports and to recommend further diagnosis and treatment procedures
(Gonen, Strauss & Oren-Landes, 2017). During this process the participants or nurses will
found by themselves how the standardized nursing codes are helpful for medical information
handing. After this session they will be engaged to a development session, where the
standardize nursing terminology use guidelines and details instructions will be presented
while distributing the personal handbooks and flyers within the nursing staffs, regarding the

instruction and importance of using standardized nursing terminology and codes in nursing
practice.
Benefits and challenges of implementing standardized nursing terminologies:
The benefits of implementing standardize nursing terminologies are diverse, dynamic
and robust. One of the major benefit is that the codes or terminologies allows fast and
accurate information sharing among nurses and other health care providers such as health
care professionals, and administrators of the institutions in which nurses work. The specific
alphanumeric codes allows nurses to express their intervention precisely, accurately and
briefly, which increase the visibility of nursing intervention (Rutherford, 2008). As a result of
improved communication and precise and detailed information recording sharing, the data
collection and evaluation of nursing cares and their outcomes can be done very easily,
accurately while consuming less amount of time for data sorting. All these components
enhances the quality of the nursing care holistically.
The major challenges of implementing standardized nursing terminologies is that, it
requires the entire medical workforce to be well educated and proficient about medical
coding and code interpretations. Another major challenges is that, the coding methods should
be updated as per the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), Nursing
Intervention Classification (NIC), Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) (McGonigle &
Mastrian, (2015).
Conclusion:
From the above discussion it can be interpreted that despite of having some
challenges implementing standardised nursing terminologies in nursing practice has
numerous benefits and normalizes the minor challenges of implementations. At the same
time, with handbook, guideline, process based presentation based training and development
