INTRODUCTION
Public services are provided by the government or the individual societies for the welfare
of the society. Statutory services are government funded and non statutory are privately funded
public services (Common, Flynn and Mellon, 2016). The report discusses about the difference
between the two types of public service. It further discusses about various incidents happened
and services utilised in coping up with the incident.
Statutory and non statutory services
Statutory public services are governed by law and a legislation is passed by the
government to keep it in peace in the home country and sometimes in abroad as well. However,
non – statutory services are not needed by law but these services still function as they are
required by the public (Creyke, McMillan and Smyth, 2012). These services prove to be very
beneficial for public in some situations. Statutory services such as educations and schools,
council services, police fire brigade, ambulance army, legal aid etc. These organisations are self
funded and can also receive money from the government. Non statutory services can be
probation services, Tourist services etc. These services are not funded by the government and the
finances are required to be arranged by the individual or the group of individual, running those
services. The major difference between the two terms is that statutory services are usually
uniformed and professional but non statutory services can be started by volunteers.
Public services bring the chance to understand the society and community not only in
United Kingdom, but overseas as well. It provided to understand different regions, religions,
ethnic groups, gender and age diversity.

helped in taking people from one place to another for free. In this case, police, doctors and
ambulance were the statutory services governed by the government. However, taxi services,
hotel for shelter services were provided by the non statutory public services (Murray, 2012).
They took initiative to control the situation but were not governed by the government.
Red cross helping refugees
British red cross helping refugees, is a society in UK which extend help to the people
who are in crisis. They help without discriminating people on the basis ethnicity, origin,
nationality, political beliefs, origin or religion. It is a kind of non statutory public services
because it is an independent charity who works to mobilise the power of humanity (Perkins and
Slade, 2012).

Citizen advice is a network of independent charities that works free to assist people with
