Introduction
Yamaha Motor Company Limited (YMCL) is a motorcycles manufacturing company. It situated
in Japan and it is also manufacture different things, such as outboard motors, motorized products,
and boats. It was establish in japan after separation from Yamaha Corporation. Headquarter of
Yamaha motors are in Iwata, Shizuoka, Japan. YA-a motorcycle was first product of Yamaha
Motors Company Limited in 1955 (Brown & Ulijn, 2004).
This report will explain about the 13-step strategic innovation model, which is used by the
YMCL for their innovation. Innovations are fresh ideas and they are introduced for problem
solving. YMCL is producing different products and service in the international market, it
includes many things, such as motorcycles, sailboats, scoters, personal watercraft, motorized
bicycles, fishing boats, water pumps, go-kart engine, helmet, intelligent machinery, automobile
engines, outboard motors, and many others (Chesbrough, 2010). YMCL is also providing
different services, which are related to the tourist businesses, recreational facilities, management
of leisure, and related services. YMCL is second largest company for selling motorcycles in the
world. YMCL is the world leader in water vehicle sales (Chen & Huang, 2009).
This report will describe innovation model strategies and advantages of them. It will also explain
about the YMCL innovation strategies in the field of automobile engine and motorcycles in the
later section. In the later section of this report, strategies innovation model from the perspective
of YMCL will be concluded.
Innovations
Strategic Innovation Model (referred as SIM) is used for innovations and that provides different
benefits to company. Innovations are based on the fresh or innovative ideas for a problem or
improvement in the current process (Chesbrough, 2010).
Innovations are based on two things, which are market and technology. Innovation is processes
that start with new one and existing one. There is brief description about the innovation:
Innovations has classified in four categories, which are incremental, game changing, break
through, and disruptive as shown in below diagram:
