STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF COMPANIES2According to the Fortune 500 list of top companies there are many changes in theposition of the companies and the entry of new companies as well. Apple has entered the listat the third position and Hewlett-Packard has left the list. However, Walmart has maintainedits position at the top rank over the period of seven years. The company has been maintainingthe top position since the last five years. In spite of having only physical presence thecompany has been the topmost retailer of the world. The revenue of the company has been ashigh as 485.8 billion dollars. Though the company has seen a drop in the sales in the year2015, they have recovered from the drop and maintained their top position (Peppard andWard 2016). Apple was not present in the top 30 companies in the year 2010, whereasHewlett-Packard is not present in the top 30 companies list of the 2017. AppleApple has shown immense growth from the year 2010 till the recent times. Thecompany has shown steady from the year 2010. After the death of Steve Jobs, the companywas led was Tim Cook and this led to a huge change in the management of the companyresulted in the growth. The core competencies of Apple relate to the products and the brandimage created by the company, which cannot be imitated easily. This feature gives thecompany an edge over the other mobile companies (Khan, Alam and Alam 2015).
