Part A-Reflective Analysis
Introduction
Operation management is one of the most vital factors that assist an organization to
complete their allocated work. The operations that are associated with the company are
required to be managed in an effective way as well as efficient way which support the
business firm for development in the process of goals and objectives that are strategic
in nature. Management of strategic operation helps in designing the system for goods
and services that are provided to the customers. The study sheds light on the reflective
study of a project manager of Taco Bell and describes the skill one needs to develop in
order to manage the people and the project. There is detailed description and
theoretical justification of the necessity of the skill of the project manager. Time
management has been discussed, which is of utmost importance for the purpose of
productivity purpose.
Discussion
Time management is the most justified method to allocate my time in order to organise
the work I am going to perform. As opined by Slack and Brandon-Jones, (2018) time
management helps to divide plans and makes the strategic management of operation
easy through specific division of activities. I have learnt that failing to manage time
mainly damages effectiveness of creativity and causes unnecessary stress at work. I
have been appointed as the project manager in the Taco Bell and I have faced
problems in completing the production on time. I have realized that time management
is the most important aspect to develop if I want to prosper in getting my productivity
complete on time. As influenced by Oettingen et al. (2015), time management has
helped me to dedicate my precious time learning and division of timing has helped to
sort out my plans to achieve certain tasks. Instead of wasting time, I have noticed that
concentration on the available time includes certain learning outcomes that are mainly
important for the overall process of increasing the productivity within the stipulated and
provided time. It is also helpful in maintaining the professional reputation by proper use
3

of opportunities and resources. The moment I failed to complete my tasks within time I
realized the consequences were severe and I missed deadline and delivered poor
quality with inefficient work flow.
As stated by Ingram, (2015) it is very important to harvest the management process of
time as this will help professionals to become efficient and organize the specific goals.
The Taco Bell has appointed me as the project manager where I need to assess the
proper completion of production of foods. The customers are very important and if I
cannot lead my team members to deliver the goods properly on time the company will
face loss. I need to improve my time management skills for the following purpose.
Stress is the most undesirable thing in work and I have always wanted to work freely. I
need to increase my time management skill because this will help me to reduce my
pressure to complete my time on deadline and I can relax while working. I can put my
effort on more research and free mind is always out of stress.
Productivity is the most valued factor that is resultant due to the proper management of
time. I can create a lot more with a designed routine and proper stipulated time frame.
As per Reid and Sanders (2015), The work that are mainly scattered might face some
difficulty in overall completion within the allocated period of time and the overall
productivity also increases along with total amount of production that helps in enhancing
the overall quality.
There is high chance of rework with hastiness and improper time management. Time
should be managed in such a manner where full concentration should be focused on
the quality of the work. In Taco bell, I am trying to produce the stuffs with full
concentration and total dedication of time on the particular product. This has helped me
to get good consumer comment and there is less chance of reshuffling any recipe and
rework of any project.
I need to complete the work within stipulated time so that this would help me to get
more free time at the end of the work. I can then use the time in learning new things,
managing my team properly.

Being the project manager I have been assigned with many responsibilities, which I
need to complete within a specific time. This would help me to develop my career and
own reputation as a responsible employee, who can complete the project within
stipulated time. Completion of work within time will help me to get more work and thus I
can improve my efficiency in managing more things at a time.
Time management and the quality of work in a project can be developed through few
theories. I have applied the theories in my work so that I can develop my skill in the
management of the project. The theories include Lean Thinking and Just in Time.
Just in Time
Concept and Importance: Just in Time is a management system that mainly aligns
raw material with the production schedule (De Stefano, 2015). I have used the inventory
system in aligning my time with the work I am doing. I have applied the theory properly
in managing the production in my profession. I expect that the inventory strategy would
increase efficiency and thus decrease the waste thorough receiving of goods in the time
they need it for production. This saves the time to choose goods among all the stuffs.
The Just in Time helps in choosing the right time to buy raw materials and thus I can
decide when to spend money on raw materials. Thus the strategy helps me to decide
the financial capacity of the company and make decisions accordingly. This cuts the
inventory costs as the manufacturers do not have to pay the storage costs. However, I
do not let my manufacturers to be left with unwanted inventory when the order gets
cancelled. As influenced by De Stefano (2015), I have considered the example of
implementation of JIT in Toyota, which has helped me to gain confidence in developing
my skill. Toyota orders the new parts only when it gets orders from customers and the
company took 15 years to perfection. Thus I realized, with gradual practice I will be able
to make steady production, without any breakdown and reach my success.
Lean Thinking
Concept and importance: This is a methodology that helps to provide a new way of
thinking (Antony et al. 2015). I have been using this strategy in order to organize my
5
Document Page
activities within time. This would help me to deliver more benefits and value to my
project and would help in eliminating waste. In order to maintain the time to deliver the
best product I have learned to value time. This is very important to create value of time
and know the ultimate need of the customer. Lean Thinking is based on five principles,
which include:
Value
I, as the project manager need to create the value and it should be clarified why I am
producing a particular product. This will determine why a customer will pay as per my
production. Creation of value determines the reason of pricing and this is possible only
through completion of the product manufacturing within time (Rohani and Zahraee,
2015). The provision of high value services to customers can have a positive effect on
the development of good relations. These developments in good relations with
customers can help me to understand the needs of customers and provide with better
quality services based their needs. My ability to provide with proper services can also
be effective in increasing the satisfaction of the customer and influence them to stay
loyal to the brand.
Flow
I need to understand the flow of the production in order to eliminate issues with
wastage. If the flow is stopped I will not be able to understand the waste production,
which is an inevitable part of manufacturing. This would become time consuming and
there would be interruption in the productivity. As opined by Fillingham et al. (2016), the
main motto of flow is to create a value chain through which production would remain
uninterrupted. Uninterrupted production can lead to the consistent provision of services
that can affect the organisation in a positive way. The consistent high availability of
products and services on a daily basis can lead to major positive impacts on attracting
customers that require bulk products. This can lead to better sales and profits of the
brand.
Pull
6
Document Page
The pull in lean principle helps to ensure flow and makes sure that nothing is made
ahead of time. It is not building up the work-in-process inventory and stopping the flow,
which has been synchronized. Rather than using the traditional manufacturing approach
of pushing work, which is based on a schedule and forecast (Elbert, 2018). This pull
approach shows that nothing is fulfilled until the customer orders it. This demands
flexibility and short design in order to delivery cycle times. It also requires an effective
way of communication which is needed in each step of value chain.
Perfection
Lean practitioners strive to achieve everything, which is not short of perfection. This
strive toward perfect process occurs step by step as constant improvements shows root
causes of production waste and quality problems. This relentless pursuit in perfection
drives the users to approach to dig deep, change measure and more often than their
competitors.
As per Schultz et al. (2016), productivity is the amount of work that I have completed in
a given period of time. I can be considered as more productive if I get to do more work.
In this aspect, time management is very important. This skill is required to make a
strategic development in the productivity and research of a person. I do too have same
productivity every day, however, I have prepared my skill in such a manner so that my
productivity, if not increased, does not go down on any day. In order to expand my
strategy I have applied certain methods and this have helped me to prioritize my work.
Assessing own time: Assessment of time helps in productivity when I am determined
to make the most of my time and increase my quality of work. I need to identify which
time I need to work and which time I need to take a break. In this manner, I have
created a time journal and I am writing down what I have done in last one hour. As
opined by Erol et al. (2016) once the factors are written down one can go through the
work done and assess what has been done till the time. This is very important to get
accomplished to everything I am doing during a certain period and when I am in Taco
Bell I need to know, which work is more important. As a project manager I need to

assess time, which will help me to identify at what time I have been most productivity
and towards which thing and how I have competed the jobs.
Determine Priorities: As opined by Demir, (2019) it is very to determine the priorities
every day before starting off the day. I follow the same rule in improving my skill of time
management and this has helped me to increase my productivity. I have put all the
names of work in priority list and this helped me to understand that important works
must be completed first within stipulated time. The urgent works are to be completed
with urgency basis and then comes the important and the unimportant works. This has
helped me in managing time to meet my deadline of urgent projects and I can then
focus on the important meeting and learning. This has helped me to reduce stress and
tension of meeting deadlines.
Time for preparation: The time management is very critical at first, however, once I
have the information I can go on increasing my productivity. Preparation of the schedule
will help me to complete the work ahead of time. This will make me understand the
priorities and help me to prepare for the important works. I have made up my mind that I
will not do this after the work is done or at the end of the day. This will make me slow in
completing the work. I have realized that I fall in the group of people who try to identify
their skill by noting them down at the starting of the day.
Scheduling: As per views of Manzini and Di Serio, (2017) one needs to schedule their
work and record their schedule so that they know what they are doing. I have made up
my mind to schedule my daily routine so that I do not have to waste time by thinking
what I have to do after I complete one work. This will help me to keep everything in
place. I have determined which time of the day is productive for me and I keep the
operations at that specific time. In scheduling specification of tasks is very important
and in the age of technology I can use my smart gadget to make the schedule ready to
use. However, I need to stick to my rules and I should not engage in processes to
transfer my plans. This will make the production unorganized and there will be
unnecessary late in the work and I might fail in meeting the deadlines. Scheduling helps
me in productivity in the following manner:
8
Document Page
It ensures if the planner is working in a proper manner. It helps me to make sure
that the plan is on a daily basis.
Scheduling will help to identify priorities. I can thus complete my task in time.
Schedule helps me to know if there is any problem. Then I can plan for some
back up and I do not need to suffer for the unplanned failure of resource.
In making the productivity the utmost important and successful thing, one needs to
get accustomed with the proper organization of environment and diluter the
unplanned things. This will to get rid of failing to meet priorities and once I have the
best opportunity to intensify and maximise my productivity then I can banish my
distractions and concentrate in managing proper tine to complete my job.
Conclusion
The study has focused on the reflection on a project manager, which is I myself and I
have sorted out ways to deal with my drawback. I lacked the skill of time management
at first and hence, when appointed as project manager in Taco Bell, I faced issues with
proper timing. I could not complete my work on time and I lacked efficiency. I started to
develop a plan for myself where I decided to improve my skill through proper scheduling
and prioritizing of work. I drastically changed my habit of scattered work and started
making my own schedule from which it is inferred that I can make sustainable changes
in my strategic management of time. This defines that I can deal both with my personal
and professional life. Previously due to heavy production in store, I could not manage
time and jumbled my operations and work.

Introduction
The operation management generally stands for an administration of business practice
for creating the highest efficiency level of an organization. However the operation
management generally helps in converting the labour and materials into good and
services in the context of maximizing the profit for an organization. On the other hand
the nature of an operation management is to administrate the operational work of an
organization which controls the activity of an organization. However, this study mainly
emphasize on the operational activity of an UK based recruitment agency called
Adecco. The organization mainly associated with the recruitment of candidates for the
various organizational vacancies.
The mission and vision of the organization is to provide high quality job to the qualified
candidates in different kind of organizations. It can be identified that a recruitment
agency generally deals with service industry. It possesses the functional responsibility
for producing the services any organization offers. The operations manager in the
service domain also possesses the responsibility to communicate with the customer
base and educate them about the details of the services offered by the esteemed
organization. However, the operations management role in the supply chain process is
completely different than it is in the service industry. This study is associated to the
examination of a job description for the post of an operation manager in a supply chain
process.
Operational challenges faced by a candidate
Due to the diverse nature of an operation manager’s role, challenges are an integral
part of their professional day to day activity. An operation manager acts as a media
connected with every other node within a business. In this era of technological
revolution, managing operations of a business is significantly convenient. Despite of
having a constant support of technology, operations managers face a diverse set of
functional barriers. Some of them can be mitigated by applying a sustainable approach
and the rest is beyond the scope of any fix. Therefore in this segment, a number of

challenges faced by an operation manager in a supply chain process can be
undermined (Slack & Brandon-Jones, 2018).
Globalization
Globalization refers to a process of integration and interaction among organizations,
peoples, companies and governments of different nations. Globalization can
significantly reduce the barriers in trading at a global level. Most of the companies in the
contemporary world emphasize in advancement of information technology and
transformation technology. Therefore, in order to upgrade to new ideas the operations
manager of the esteemed company requires continuously evaluating the core operation
strategies of the company in order to avoid any type of discrepancy in outcome.
Operations manager in the supply chain process is responsible for engagement of four
functions of any business process i.e., planning, organization, leading and controlling.
Globalization can results in competitions in each of these clusters. Thus, it can be
considered as one of the key challenges for an operations manager (Longoni &
Cagliano, 2015).
Sustainability
In this day, sustainability is emphasized by most of the businesses (Derwik, Hellström &
Karlsson, 2016). Operations sustainability is considered to be a method of assessing
whether a business can manage existing process without putting fundamental
resources at stake. Sustainability has three distinct pillars that has a significant effect on
the on the outcome of the business. These three pillars are identified to be social,
economic and environmental pillars. Each of the pillars includes segment such as
welfare, safety, communities, environment and economic sustainability. Operations
manager tend to manage all the segments within each of the pillar of sustainability.
Therefore, it is quite challenging for the operations manager to manage the entire
different niche at a single time. In cases where any of the pillars are jeopardized, the
operations managers require initiation and verification of the corrective action in this
context.
Ethical Conduct
14
Document Page
Ethics has a significant role in production. Every business requires setting up in a way
that they hardly damage either the society or the customers (King, 2017). The effects of
disruptive technologies, defective production and services, animal testing and business
deals are quite distinct and require consideration of the esteemed organization.
Unethical approach within the course of business can lead to reduction in the quality of
outcome and the business may face severe damage. The operations manager has to
take care of the ethical aspects within the business process. It can be a challenging task
to complete and requires additional skill-set as an operation manager.
Effective communication
Communication can be seen as the key behind success of any business. Any high end
corporations rely on effective communication with their clients as well as their
consumer. The operations managers require being proactive and consistent at the
same time while performing a communication. This can be a rigorous task to handle. A
business is associated with both internal and external stakeholders. It is required to
communicate with each of the stakeholders substantially in order to manage the
business. Thus, any operations manager requires extensive knowledge of oral, written
and non-verbal communication for managing the day to day operations of the business
(Piercy & Rich, 2015).
With the help of this segment, it can be stated that the operations managers tend to
face a lot of difficulties in terms of their functional aspects. It is very important for an
operation manager to comply with a diverse set of tasks and combine all the tasks for
the betterment of the business and to manage continuous flow of revenue generation.
The challenges can be mitigated by associating appropriate strategy that can be
determined upon analysing the structure of any challenge.
Corporate Reporting
Numerous operations managers are kept in charge of corporate detailing during the
former years of their career in a certain organisation. These activities include the
arrangement of budgetary and execution information in various database or cloud
based services, the provision and transfer to of this information to various partner
15
Document Page
brands and reviewing these details for errors (Ioannou and Serafeim, 2017). Storing
information in Database systems or cloud networks require significant skills which the
operation managers may not possess. The use of SQL (Structured Query Language) is
required for employees in order to gain knowledge on the use of databases for storing
data. Cloud computing systems such as Google Drive and Mega share are easy to use
but contribute to major security issues of the organisation. Therefore, most organisation
utilize private security servers in order to store necessary information. Additionally,
transferring the necessary data to brand partners or other departments within the
organisation require the use of network services. Even though the employees may have
knowledge in the use of email systems they probably will not have knowledge over
internal network based communications. Additionally, reviewing errors within reports
require knowledge over a project which they cannot gain by corporate detailing
processes.
The operations managers are also charged with the formation of normal reviews of the
association's money related books. As per Linset al. (2017), difficulties can emerge in
corporate revealing when the business hasn't kept present or precise records. A lack of
record keeping can contribute to major chaotic situations as the operations managers
need to communicate with every single group leader in order to gain the necessary
information. This process is highly time-consuming and can lead to increased problems
in organizational productivity. Additionally, in the private corporation setting, record
keeping can take a lot of time due to additional concerns such as gathering client
requests or keeping creation levels high. Regardless, full and complete record keeping
on benefits and misfortunes faced by the organisation can help them to utilize their
strengths to their advantage in the future and develop necessary ideas and processes
to deal with the weaknesses over time.
Social Responsibility
The Social Responsibility function of an organizational sector deals with ensuring that
the organisation has proper relations with people belonging to different cultural and
racial groups as well as ensuring that the brand is highly compliant with various rules
and regulations (Grayson and Hodges, 2017). It also ensures that all components within

the organisation are legalized and that the organisation does not provide cover-ups for
additional monetary transfers (Wanget al. 2016). Additionally, holding various events
such as charity funds and marketing events can help to attract additional people to buy
products or services from the brand. The positive image can lead to improved work of
mouth communication, thus leading to the high availability of customers.
The organisation can provide high quality products and services to customers which can
have positive effects on accomplishing the necessary brand goals. The provision of
high-quality products and services can help to improve the opportunities for the social
responsibility groups to promote the services of the organisation via various events
(Flammer, 2015). The increased availability of customers can have positive effects on
the growth of increased competitive advantages for the brand. Additionally, the high
quality and low prices of products can help to ensure high customer satisfaction. This
increase in satisfaction can influence customers to stay loyal to the brand and buy
products from them. High customer loyalty ensures that the customers will not substitute
products and services sold by the specified brand.
Core issue identification and explanation
Every organization develops various innovative strategies and productive plans to
incorporate with the certain opportunities and major challenges that arise in its specific
operating environment. The organization needs to develop an effective system which is
capable of creating quality product and services as per required quantities within a
specific time schedule. In order to establish certain brand value and customer
satisfaction, the organization must require identifying key issues in operation
management and needs to provide effective solutions to resolve (Hitt et al. 2016).
Designing the System
Product development is the foundation of operation management within an
organizational context to meet specific targets within specific time period. As a potential
step of operation management, product development includes various important
aspects of business propositions steadily to determining the characteristics of the

products along with the features. Production process starts from the identification of
customer requirements and design products as per the requirements. System design
process consist of various important figures of production process such as the facilities
and equipment’s that produce newly designed products and the information system that
confines various different aspects to control and monitoring the process. Manufacturing
process the most integral processes of company's success as it creates potential end
products to meet customer satisfaction. As a cross-functional decision making process,
product development depends on the collective work of various departments and
Communication to operate business values such as marketing, financial fluidity and
operational planning needed to launch end products.
Planning the System
An effective operational plan can be developed with the proper utilization of various
management methodologies. The use of agile processes within the organization can be
effective in ensuring proper accomplishment of the brand goals in regards to increasing
efficiencies of the organisation (Schönig et al. 2015). The Agile processes utilize a
structured approach in order to deal with various issues involved within a certain project.
This structured approach helps to break down various tasks into smaller parts in order
to improve efficiencies. The project is coordinated in a step-by-step process and
involves the use of modernized ideas for improved operations. The utilization of Agile
also contributes to increased quality of products developed by an organisation due to its
focus on quality (Rigbyet al. 2016). The products are developed as per the ISO quality
certifications and thus have a positive impact on the accomplishment of necessary
brand goals. The high product quality has significant positive impacts on the sale of
products and services.
The organisation needs to assign operations managers on various project based on
their proficiencies. Additionally, other managers or the board of directors can provide
them with the necessary training in order to ensure that they can handle projects
regardless of the problems and issues that they may face (Reid and Sanders, 2015).
Additionally, the organisation needs to recruit inventory managers in order to keep lists
18
Document Page
of various inventory processes involved within the brand. The inventory managers can
keep track of raw materials utilized and the quantity of materials that are still available
within the inventory. This process can have significant effects on the recordkeeping
processes within the organisation. Additionally, the project managers can keep track of
the time and costs required for the completion of a project and the operations manager
can provide reports based on the documentations provided by the project managers.
Managing the System
The operational process presented above, can be managed with the use of modernized
equipment and technological ideas. The use of a Management Information System
(MIS) can be effective in ensuring proper planning and implementations. Additionally, as
per Laudon and Laudon (2016), the MIS systems can help in tracking brand operations
and develop the necessary strategic plans in order to ensure that a certain product or
service operates as per expectations. The above various activities mentioned above
can be effectively tracked and managed using this process. For example- In case an
inventory manager is unable to track the inventory supplies in time, the managers or
board of directors can gain knowledge regarding the fact. In case of problems faced by
the inventory manager while handling these inventory lists, the board of directors may
appoint an additional supervisor or inventory handler.
Ways for identifying possible challenges
The various ways that could be used in order to identify possible challenges within the
organization are as follows:
The implementation of Agile processes can help to identify major backlogs
involved in various operations within the brand. The organization can implement
new technologies or assign additional managers or supervisors in order to deal
with these backlogs
The use of a Management Information System (MIS) can be efficient in proper
tracking of brand operations. The MIS systems can help to development various
plans that can be implemented. In case of issues such as delays in

recordkeeping of employees or missed deadlines the board of directors will
receive notification for the issues.
The use of manual monitoring can help to track employees and managers that
are negligent in their job roles and are complacent in the workplace. These spefic
groups of people may have lost their interest due to their job roles and the
provision of challenging work can help to motivate them.
Conclusion
Based on the organisation Adecco, it can be identified that an operation manager in the
supply chain process manages a number of different responsibilities. Besides that, the
operation managers in the supply chain industry also face a number of functional
difficulties that makes a significant impact on their efficiency as well as the overall
outcome of the organization. The study incorporates the operational challenges faced
by a potential candidate. The study also helps in identification of the core issues, the
explanation and the possible mitigation strategies for the same.
Numerous organizations engage with not-for-profit associations, to support nearby
communities, sponsor at neighbourhood games and volunteer in neighbourhood
schools. These processes are effective in developing effective relations with people
from the neighbourhood communities. The development of good relations with the
community can have positive impacts on the brand image of the organisation.
