STRATEGIC PLANNING MODELS 1
In strategic planning, models used for comparing and contrasting are balanced
scorecard (BSC) and strategy maps. It is essential for finding a way expressing strategy in the
university and institutions for understanding and simplification that also reflect the
complexities in activities and relationships between individuals. These qualities are combined
in the structure of BSC and more recent specifically is personification in the strategy map.
The tool by Robert S Kaplan and David P Norton was created named strategy mapping who
also created BSC (CGMA, 2013).
In higher education, strategy map plans while delivering the strategic goals outlining
fundamental logic and demonstrating consequences for external and internal stakeholders
along with training and educating students (Sart, 2014). It requires codifying the required
competences in the institutions along with exploring knowledge and ideas needed by the
students. Also, it is important to identify the resources which are required to invest in.
However, strategy map is complimented with BSC tracking the delivery of plan effectively
along with action plan showing delivery of activities that need to be rolled out and sequenced
(Hassanien, 2017). Thus, strategy map elucidates the logic and direction in education as a
whole and BSC elucidates the way of measuring and tracking success where the action plan
helps in showing the way of organising talent, time and tasks.
