2 STRATEGIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT Introduction The Company Automatic Data Processing Inc. is a provider of cloud-based human capital solutions along with business process outsourcing services. A number of services are offered by the company which includes human capital management, payroll services, business analytics and compliance expertise. It is a large sized company that serves approximately 650000 clients in 110 countries. The operation of ADP includes two business segments that include Employer Services and professional employer organization. With the increase in the number of clients of the company, it becomes essential to improve the business integration process. The company serves across 110 countries and therefore it is essential for the company to implement and maintain a business information system such as ERP that will help in easier decision making and easier processing of the clients’ request (Hoch and Dulebohn 2013). The aim of the project proposal is to discuss project ideas that are generated along with the justification of the project demands. 1. Ideas generated for the project With the increase in the number of business clients it becomes essential for the business to be able to manage and integrate all their business modules. Since Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) operates in a number of locations, tracking the clients’ needs, their demands and the services provided to them can be a problem for the company. With further growth of the company, managing the data of the organization can be a problem. The profit margin of the company is quite high and company has a huge employee base. Collecting and tracking the data of the employees is further essential for taking better business decisions (Leon 2014). With the implementation of an information system, the mangers of the company will be able to track the
3 STRATEGIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT data of the employees related to their production, which in turn will help in easier decision making. Apart from the management of the employees, the company needs to manage the huge clients’ base that will ensure improved customer service.Keeping in mind the needs of the company and to ensure further growth in the organization, making use of an enterprise resource planning system in the company is recommended (Shaul and Tauber 2013). It has been observed that business mainly prefer to implement and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, with an aim of improving the internal business processes along with an improvement in the entire business performance. ERP is an improved information system that helps in coordinating the different tasks, activities and the business processes within the organization. There are a number of advantages of making use of an ERP system. It includes optimization of the business process alongwithaccurateandtimelyaccesstothereliableinformationassociatedwiththe developmentanduseoftheERPsystem(PtakandSchragenheim2016).Withthe implementation of ERP, it is possible to share the necessary information among all the important components of the organization thus helping in eliminating the unnecessary operations and the data processing. Elimination of the unnecessary operations and data helps in reduction of time and cost of business process management. The implementation of enterprise resource planning system helps in easier decision making (Chofrehet al.2014). This is possible mainly because the information system generates regular reports about the different business processes within the organization which further helps in easier decision making.

4 STRATEGIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT The implementation of this information technology project will not only be beneficial for the organization but will also be beneficial for its customers. This is mainly because the implementation of ERP system will help in easier processing of the customers’ request. The enterprise resource planning system that is proposed to be implemented in ADP will further help in easier management of the financial operations of the company. The accurate report generation will help in easier management of the financial processes, which will in turn make the financial decision making easier (Seethamraju 2015).Thus this project in ADP is of great demand. The following section of the proposal provides a justification of the demand of project in ADP. 2. Justification of Project Demand One of the reasons behind the success of a business is its client base. With the increase in the increase in the client base, sometimes it becomes difficult to manage the demands of the customers. With the development and implementation of the project, the data processing process improves which in term helps in easier management of the customers’ needs. The organization is a large sized company and is therefore capable of making the investment in the ERP system (Laudon and Laudon 2016). With the integration of the business processes with the ERP system that is to be developed, it will be possible for the organization to manage its operation in a better process. The implementation process of the ERP system will be complex since an ERP itself is a complex software (Ha and Ahn 2014). Therefore, in order to ensure accurate management of the implementation process of ERP, an appropriate project plan is needed to be developed. For that, an accurate project implementation plan is developed containing the detailed action plan. The project management plan is an important characteristic of project implementation as it ensures
5 STRATEGIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT implementation of the project in a planned approach. The project implementation plan will help in easier management of the tasks associated with the implementation of this project. Conclusion The aim of the project proposal is to highlight the information needs of an organization named Automatic Data Processing Inc. The organization offers a number of services to the clients in multiple locations. Therefore, the company is in need of an information system that will help in easier management of different processes of the organization. Thus, implementation of an enterprise resource planning system is recommended for the organization for better operational management along with the management of the financial aspects of ADP. For easier implementationoftheERPinformationsysteminADP,thedevelopmentofaproject implementation plan is recommended. The implementation plan is needed to develop mainly because it will help in outlining the different aspects of project implementation and the approach that will be taken by the tem for project implementation.
