INTRODUCTION
Parenting is defined as the process of supporting and promoting emotional, intellectual,
social and physical development of child from birth to adulthood (Shanker, 2016). Parenting
style vary from time to time and also depends upon culture, social and economic factors, legal
aspects as well as personal traits of individuals. The report will discuss the positive impact of
strictness of parents in upbringing and overall development of child. It will also support the
arguments through relevant examples strict Chinese parenting style or the instances from famous
tiger mother parenting approach.
Role of parental strictness in escalating grades of child
The strict parents or those who prefer tiger parenting tends to assume that intellectual and
academic achievement is prior to all other achievements. Thus their parenting emphasis on
making their child to understand and prioritise the same. Academic excellence has greater impact
on life and success of an individual. However in the childhood people may not understand this or
they may have more interest in games or other non-academic activities. In such cases strictness
in choices, methods of schedules of child assist child to groom themselves for the academics
instead of taking wrong decisions due to their lack of knowledge (Tam and et.al., 2018). For
instance children may feel that just because they enjoy playing music or gym they must devote
their time to only this aspect. Skipping education or academics can help them to give more time
to their hobby.
However in the future it is possible that they may realise that without academic
achievements they are not able to retain a good position in their family or society. Contrary to
this when parents are strict they assure that due to temporary distractions or hobbies child does
not compromise with the academics. Strict parents keeps regular monitoring and control over the
activities and time period of the child so that maximum time is given in improving grades. For
instance in many situations children are stubborn and mere instruction may not help them to
focus on studies.
Thus parents have to adopt strict measures such as refusing them Christmas gifts or
holidays or threatening them to donate their gifts if they do not score good grades. This kind of
strictness develop a continuous consciousness among children that if they will not perform well
they will have to suffer (Xie and Li, 2019). As a result of this regular fear and motivation grades
of children are escalated and they used to continuously emphasis upon academic improvements.

Escalating confidence of child through strictness
Another advantage of strictness in parenting is that it makes child more confident and
independent. Contrary to the other parenting styles strict parents does not give liberty to their
child instead they try to teach their children each and every skill. When parents have strict
regulations and behavioural guidelines then children used to follow discipline and learned to
perform and understand their own priorities (Zhang, 2017). The habit is developed in the initial
stages as well which makes child more confident about their actions and decisions. Strict parents
tend to give more responsibilities to their children.
Thus child used to discover new solutions to accomplish the tasks and responsibilities
given by their parents. In cases when parents give them punishment for misconduct or errors then
also they learn their faults. Strict parents also gives new challenges to their child without
allowing them to make short cuts or excuses. Development of this attitude in the early years
make child very confident and independent as they not only perform the given duties or
assignments but also figure out their mistakes and solutions for the challenges (Schiffrin and
et.al., 2015). It results in the development of confident children which are prepared to become
independent. It is the responsibility of parents to enhance the experience and exposure of their
child so that confidence can be build up for dealing with the harsh and complex realities of the
world. However parents who are liberal or lenient does not let the opportunities to their child to
take decisions or take efforts at their own for making accurate judgements and decisions.
Thus the confidence of children grown up with the lenient parenting is quite low because
in childhood they have more attention towards unproductive activities instead of challenges
created by strict parents . The strictness in parenting provides all authority and control to parents.
Thus from the initial years child does not question the parents decisions or disobeying the task
provided by them because it can result in consequences such as child being punished, insulted or
shamed with harsh realities. It gradually makes child strong instead of non fragile so that they are
confident enough to perform each task and does not show resistance towards work or academic
challenges (Deater - Deckard, 2013). The children who have these experiences consider
themselves as capable of dealing with every kind of difficult or challenging situation. It develops
confidence among them so that they can cope with unfavourable circumstances without being
feared or nervous.

Positive impact of strict parenting on physical structure of child
In childhood individual may not be capable enough to identify practices and importance
of better body design and body structure. It is the responsibility of parents to identify the
nutritional needs of child and to encourage them for physical activities which gives better
physical development to their children. However when children are given choice for this aspect
they may not consider it seriously and can opt for other unhealthy practices (Sovet and Metz,
2014). Strictness from parents can serve the better solution for this problem. When parents are
strict they have complete control that how child development or body structure is improved or
directed.
Another significant impact of strictness in upbringing is observed in the form of
acceptance by child. It has been observed that strict parents used to be very honest and they does
not hesitate in criticising their child for physical appearance (Clauss-Ehlers, 2017). For instance
strict parents can use provoking words which seems inappropriate or body shamming comments
for their child. However when child used to witness such physical shamming by their parents
they used to accept it as challenge instead of taking it as an insult. Thus children used to take self
initiatives for gaining a better body design prior to facing such criticism by other classmates or
the family members. This positive attitude and efforts for obtaining good body design and
structure act as self motivation force for the children and assist in improving their overall
physique and physical health.
There are children who are in great need of paying attention to their body design. For
instance children suffering from obesity needs strict monitoring and control over food habits.
Such habits cannot be controlled or changed without support or strictness of parents (Deater -
Deckard, 2013). If parents show strict attitude towards the diet of child and when they timely
remind their child about need of such dietary control by punishments or body shaming comments
only then child will take efforts to meet the expectations of parents. It will ultimately result in
escalating the body design of child.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that for building confidence and good physical structure role of
parents is very important. From childhood parents must demonstrate strict behaviour so that
children develop and show good practices. It has been also analysed from the above discussion
that children are not aware of the significance of academic grades and its impact on the later
