Database Consistency for Rental Property

The assignment content discusses two different processes for managing a property rental business, one using individual databases for each operation (rental and property list mail) and another using a shared database. The second process is considered more reliable, consistent, and easier to operate, as it eliminates the need for synchronization and reduces data inconsistencies. As a consultant, I would recommend the second process, which uses a shared database, as it makes the application stronger, with no redundancies or inconsistencies.

The process designed in answer 1 uses individual database for each operation like rental and
property list mail. All though both would contain same information because the company has same
property to send emails for and to rent. Whereas in the second process, the database is shared. This
type of process will maintain the consistency of the database whenever any changes occur. Whereas
maintaining consistency in the first one is difficult because both the databases will have to be
synchronized. The second will be more helpful generating income because the database is shared
and reliable. There will no information mismatch and hence better rent will be generated. The first
one will be expensive to develop and operate due to multiple database to be developed and their
synchronization process will have to be handled to maintain the consistency and durability. Whereas
the second one will be easy to operate because the all data together will be under one single
database and tables will be related.
ANSWER 4
As a consultant I would recommend process 2 which uses a shared database. I would do this because
use of shared database makes the application strong. There are no redundancies and
inconsistencies. Data is easy to add, maintain and manage. There will no conflict in renting
properties, generating reports or sending mails about the properties. Moreover, adding the data will
be a single task due to a single database and there will be no need for implementing synchronization
processes or dual updates and verification which would have to be done in the first process.
Moreover, all the managers and admin would know what is happening in the company related to
properties. Apart from that carrying out other activities like data mining will be easy to carry out on
the second option and will help in taking helpful future business decisions.
