This article discusses the tragic drama Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, its themes, character development, and relevance in modern society. The drama justifies the contradiction between fate with that of free willingness. Taking excessive pride in work is found to be the major reason for a downfall is another theme that has been found in the drama. Catharsis has been developed by Sophocles in this tradegic drama where at the end audience will be in confound whether to feel pity for Oedipus or fear the aggression that as a ruler he has.
