ABSTRACT
Coronavirus have affected education system globally that have lead to near total closure
of universities, schools along with colleges. The pandemic disease has changed the ways
millions across the world are educated. The present report is based on changing learning and
teaching styles in Coronavirus. It includes strategies that can be adopted by students or learners
for improving their listening abilities. It also covers some of techniques which can assist teachers
to help students in understanding lectures. At last, some recommendations are given so that
teachers can apply the techniques.

INTRODUCTION
Coronavirus refers to a large family of viruses that can cause illness in living organisms.
Study of coronavirus is important for apprehending the enabling along with impeding factors
related to the reforms with emphasis on optometry education. The purpose of report is to analyse
changes in lecture style because of coronavirus (Moralista 0and Oducado, 2020). It also evaluate
various strategies which can be used by students for improving their listening potentials. Further,
the report includes techniques which teachers can adopt for assisting students to understand their
lectures. At last, clear recommendations are provided for teachers to apply the techniques.
BACKGROUND
There are various changes happened in lecture style because of coronavirus. In the
pandemic situation, teachers and students have entered into a new world of worksheets as well as
virtual lectures as the lock-down brought by coronavirus shuts down entire education system.
The teachers are conducting lectures on Zoom app and also uses many techniques for improving
listening potentials for students in classroom addition to zoom lectures.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
Evaluation of some strategies which students can use for improving their listening ability
As part of efforts for containing spread of coronavirus, education system including
schools, universities, colleges and many more are closing down with the purpose of making
people to stay at home as well as preventing further spread. Closing down of school and
universities have impacted on students in great manner. For improving their listening abilities on
online classes and worksheets, there are many strategies that can be used by the students. Some
of them are as evaluated:
Signposting language: It is the technique that students can adopt for listening coherently
what is being said. With this, students are able to make clarity in what has just occurred as well
as what is going to occur next. As per Pardosi, T., 2018, it is evaluated that signposting language
helps learners to improve their listening skill through concentrating to the speech and making
sense out of it. The technique is important to develop awareness along with ability of students to
understand signposting phrases and listening the words without any issues.

Active listening: The strategy through which a learner secures information from other
individual or lecturer with all their senses. The strategy plays important role in improving
listening abilities of learners as it assist in recognising perspectives and thoughts of teachers and
understanding properly what is said by them. However, because of various barriers and
disturbances, the strategy fails to improve listening potentials.
Predicting content: It refers to an activity or tactic that is carry out by learners prior to
listening something in which they predict what they will hear in digital classes. The main
important of the strategy is that it help students to predict or forecast what they are going to listen
which strengthens their abilities to listen what others will speak. This is important technique for
student as it help them in getting involve within listening more actively and be able to develop
better understanding from the discussion.
Listening for gist: It is defined as the method where the learner put emphases toward
understanding what is actually happening even if they do not be able to understand regarding
every sentence (Li, 2016). In this method the learner tries to catch up the intonation, words as
well as other clues in order to make a guess about the meaning of information they are listening
too. This technique holds a huge importance for the students as it help in promoting the mindful
thinking which in turn further reduce the anxiety and depression of students that further enhance
their performance.
Inferring meaning: Inference is consider as the technique that help in finding out the
answer from the clues as well as prior knowledge instead of getting it directly. In this technique
the learner actually listen to the discussion happening between the two unidentified speakers and
try to infer their relationship from what they hear. This means that inferences is all about what a
learner figure out as per the experience they gain. Hence this technique of listening is essential
for the students as it help them in understanding about the information which is implied or not
directly stated (Gilakjani and Sabouri, 2016). This will help the students in improving their skills
about drawing the conclusion as well as making inference.
The ways teachers can help students to understand their lectures
Lecture is consider as long standing method used to instruct and teach students but the
methods used not always remain appropriate for the study as per the situation present in front of
them. As in case of corona virus all the school and colleges are closed for a long time period
which let the online classes or zoom classes to be only option for providing better lecture to

students (Yu, 2020). But the online classes have lots of issues which affect student learning
whether it is related with technical error, lack of attention, inappropriate voice, lack of practice to
ask doubt all together. Hence for improving the student understanding following techniques can
be used by the teacher which help in improving the learning experience of students,
Use of intonation and pauses: This is one of the effective method that teachers can use
while taking lecture over the zoom classes, as in online classes students find it difficult to
understand all things clearly. So teacher can make use of right intonation to make the students
more clear with the information a teacher is speaking so they can understand it effectively.
Teachers must also focus toward providing a pause after every small discussion so that students
get a chance to understand things more effectively and interpret them.
Concept question: This techniques is one where teacher ask some of the questions related
with the concepts which is explained to students. This help in clearing the doubts of the students
about the concept and also in improving their thinking pattern by considering several factors
(Yu, 2020). This method is important for enhancing student learning as it help teacher in
identifying the understanding that students get and at the same time help in making students
more active toward lecture.
Clear signposting: The sign post is a kind of device which support in indicating what kind
of direction that the lecture is travelling which let the student know about what is coming next
and then position them for accepting what one is saying. This is important for the student as it
help them in getting an idea about sequence of the lecture so they remain more prepare and clear
with their understanding the lecture. It is important fro student as it provide with a clear idea
regarding the direction to the lecture and structure of their classes.
Lecture suiting different learning style: Not each student is similar in term of tehri
learning pattern and gaining understanding. So for delivering the better understanding to students
the teacher must use different learning style such as audio, visual, read/write and kinetic as the
VARK model which help in developing better student learning. This VARK technique is
important for student as it help them in gaining more concentration and understanding to the
lecture by getting clarity of information through different medium.
Clear structure of lecture: This is one of the most effective technique of lecture that can be
used by teacher to help student in understanding the lecture (Cerbin, 2018). As by providing the
structure of lecture in advance a teacher can provide idea to the student about the future

discussion so that they remain prepare about the direction of the lecture. This technique is
important as it help students in remain more focus toward lecture and can also perform a pre
research over topics to understand them clearly.
RECOMMENDATIONS
In order to improve the learning of student with delivering the lecture in appropriate manner
during online classes due to the pandemic of corona virus following recommendation can be
consider by the teachers,
Teacher must provide the structure and overview about the lecture in one class before
which help students in getting an idea about next session as well as time to have a read
over some basic information which enhance understanding.
Teachers can add the visual effects during zoom classes to make the information more
clear with the help of flow charts and graph that let students understand the lecture more
clearly.
Teacher must take a Q & A session after each two or three classes to ensure that students
get understood the concept or be able to clear all the doubts that students have about the
concept.
It is recommended that students must provide with the record classes along with the
online class so that they can revise the class lecture in free time for better understanding
and improve their understanding to concept.
Teachers must use the subtitles so that student who found it difficult to understand
spoken words they get idea from the written information and be able to get actively
participate within the lecture for better learning.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned information it can be said that due to the spread of corona viru
the educational system has affected a lot as this pandemic leads to close of educational system
and take up the educational practice through online medium. But the education in term of
physical classes, online classes have to face several issues while interacting with students and
delivering lecture over zoom classes. So it is essential to improve this lecture delivering process
by using several techniques such as Use of intonation and pauses, Concept question, Clear
signposting and Clear structure of lecture.
