INTRODUCTIONManagement and operations is an effective concept which is responsible for managing aswell as coordinating all the resources in order to make final products and services. The main roleof management and operations is to convert organizational raw material into final output ofcompany which are provided to customers for satisfying their needs. One of the main goals ofoperations management is to increase overall productivity of company in market (Ageron,Gunasekaran and Spalanzani, 2012). It also provides competitive advantages in the mosteffective manner by which firm easily captures a large market share. Present report is based onMarks and Spencer which is a British multinational retail company in the UK. They arespecialised in selling clothing and home products to its customers. This project discusses aboutvarious roles of leaders and managers in the business organization. In this, main approaches ofoperations management are also mentioned which help in achieving the organizationalobjectives. Along with this, important elements of business environment are also mentioned thatput a direct impact on the decision making process of leader and manager.TASK 1P1 Different role and characteristic of a leader and a managerManager is a person who makes as well as controls overall activities of M&S in whichthey set effective objectives for their employees in order to gain better results. In this, it isimportant for the manager to protect worker’s interest towards their work which leads to attainpositive results in an appropriate time period. Along with this, manager has to motivate theirworkers and also influence them to improve efficiency in the most effective manner. Mainfunction of employer is to resolve disputes that create negativity workplace at the same time ofexecuting their task. With the help of this, they easily accomplish their targets in specific timeduration. In this process, management is an art and science to complete all the task form peoplein efficient manner.Leader is an individual who has capability to lead team members and also provide thembetter motivation to improve their working performance at the workplace (Ashby, Leat andHudson-Smith, 2012). The main contribution of leader within organization is to inspire theiremployees so that they can effectively achieve their targets and attain positive results.In context of M&S, the main roles of a leader are as follows:1
