INTRODUCTION
Study skills is the array of skills that help to tackle the organising process and relating
information in order to learn new things. Skills are the important for every one that help to make
decision and make confident to choose correct option. This involves concentration techniques,
effective reading and efficient note taking skills which is used to get something new in different
area (Ahrari and et.al., 2016). The main purpose of this report is to understand the importance of
skills for higher education and foundation course. This is important for organisation as well as
person, it help to learn new and implement in organisation to run a business successfully. The
current report will emphasis on various topics like importance of foundation year for students
from wide participation background, key challenges facing by foundation year students and how
study skills in higher education can help foundation year to over the challenges.

a.) Importance of the foundation year for students from wide participation backgrounds and its
importance
Foundation year courses means preparatory course for university level, which is mo stly
used in United Kingdom to design education and make future bright. Degree is important for
students as it stand out from others in highly competitive job market. Moreover, it defines the
personal educational goals and lifestyle choices in order to make effective decision. Foundation
year help students to get more knowledge and decide future goals. It offers a alternative route in
to study at world class university that help to make decision for future goals and objectives ( Ali
and et.al., 2016).
Background: In 1997, the UK's education department published recommendations about
higher education and they also funded for this education that help to increase the knowledge and
decide future objectives by gaining knowledge. This education also stated that future growth in
UK focuses on higher education that provides different courses to candidates and make them
confident. He foundation degree was launched in 2003 to promote and support the high quality
development for further studies. Its main aim and purpose is defined as:
To inspire people to develop their capabilities to the highest potential level that
help to grow intellectually, contribute for society and achieve personal fulfilment.
To raise understanding and knowledge for their own welfare and society benefits.

importance of foundation year for students are defined as:
Better language proficiency: International foundation programme considers English
language course that help to improve general English ability as well as academic skills.
Moreover, language proficiency help to understand what they should do and how they can
improve knowledge. It also give a confidence to keep opinion and suggestion in upcoming
difficulties (Importance of foundation year for students 2017).
Increased chance of admission to prestigious universities: Foundation year courses are
important because students who have completed a foundation course are considered to be fully
qualified to start undergraduate degree in United Kingdom university. Most of the students get a
foundation programme in order to get admission in great university.
Relevant qualification for future studies: The foundation year course provide particular
set of skills and knowledgable students for university admission. This help to give unique
advantage comparison to other students. This foundation course students get learn basic theory
and elements of selected field of study (Collet, Hine and Du Plessis, 2015).

Foundation course help to provide the best opportunities to students as it make bright
future of students by providing higher education to students. The main aim of this course is to
make eligible students for getting admission in high university and be a part of learning activities
(Challenges for foundation year students 2019). Students who are coming from different
education system they faces different challenges in foundation courses that is given below:
Language issue: This is foremost challenge for students who comes from different
country to studying abroad they face the language issue. It become complicated for other
students to understand the strong local accent and creates frustration among students and other
people.
Budget issue: Money or capital is another challenging issue for students who come in
UK's university to get foundation course. Students get use exchange rate that means they pay
more on items and education system. So it may be difficult to stay in expensive country and
complete foundation year (Hertzman, Moreo and Wiener, 2015).
Being far from parents: To live abroad or UK is a great experience in case of when
everything is going well. But some times students fell lonely because they live far from their
parents. It is not easy for student to live outside or far from their family. It can create a challenge
for students to live outside and compete the foundation year.
Cultural shock: This is big challenge for students that they faces cultural shock. It states
that students has to adjust their life in new country and new culture which some time does not
suit them. As result they become ill or sick (Harrison, 2018). The culture shock refers the
atmosphere and people of different country that may be challenge for students who comes from
different country.
Home sickness: This is also challenging issue for students such as when students coming
from another place they face no friends and relatives that let them become sick. So students face
this problems also that may be a reason of down health.

by adopting some key skills that help to face the problems which is facing by students. The
following skills are defined as:
Communication skills: The students should have communication skills that can attract
the other people. If students have better communication skills then hey can shares their ideas or
thoughts with other that leads to get foundation course. Moreover, this skills give a confidence to
students to share the feeling. This skills help to overcome the language issue that can be
eliminate by communicating (Lehrl, Kluczniok and Rossbach, 2016).
Technical skills: This skills is used to accept the new technology and new experience in
different country that help to make smart. It overcome the new technology challenge such as if
students will have technical skills they can accept the new technology that will help to get more
education at different place. So this is also essential skills that should be in students in order to
face the technological changes and accept them easily which is needed in order to get study in
information technology.
Knowledge about country and their culture: This means students should have culture
skills in which country they are moving. This skill help to adopt the new culture and maintain
coordination among people and students. Additionally, this skill create a good culture around it
self by using new technology. Moreover, it help to solve all technical issues which is needed

as if behaviour of students will be good then people will interact and would share problems. By
