INTRODUCTION
Skills is one of the most important term for every individual, this is ability to perform
something challenging and to maintain quality. Study skills allow individual learner to develop
their career on the basis of higher education experience, individual focus on career development
with the help of skills they carry (Cottrell, 2019). This report will discuss four suggestions
mentioned in the provided article and personal experience.

1. Choosing four of the suggestions mentioned above and discussing them in more details:
Career development is one of the most important process for every individual, CV
(Curriculum Vitae) is document containing course of life or experience carried by the individual
(Cottrell, 2020). CV contain academic and workplace history of individual, this highlight
performance of candidate. CV is major reason why candidate is selected, however to improve
less effective CV, there are certain suggestions, these are:
Start with a skills audit:
Skills are most important element for every individual allowing them to develop their
career, skills allow individual to become capable in employment world. Every individual need to
examine key skills they carry and need to apply for job position according to the key skills they
carry, in employment world, employer often demand those candidates carrying valuable
experience and skills. Skill audit is process of examining key skills carried by individual and
examining key improvement area where individual need to focus on.
Skill audit often provide information about market requirements (World Economic
Forum, 2016). For example; if an employer is demanding marketing skills then individual should
examine if their skill level fit with the job position. Auditing own skills allow employee to
become confident, analysing weak area allow individual to improve their quality, skill audit
often increase quality of CV as well. Career expertise provide their experience highlighting
importance of maintaining skills in the CV, this not only allow individual to get a job but this
help them to explore continuous development in employment world.
Get experience online:
Online or digital world is place where flow of education and priceless information remain
continuous, individual can learn and develop their career with online support and inclusion of E-

learning content. Getting experience online is process of examining online career opportunities
which means individual get a job virtually because they have skills using online platform. Many
employees consider those employees who have worked individually in the online world to gain
experience, they work as an intern but explored online career opportunities.
Getting experience online improve quality of CV which means individual can improve
their ability to become suitable for employer requirements, online course or any other source of
information provide details about the career path way which means individual can examine
development process with the help of digital learning process. Many employer demand those
candidates who carry experience in online world including remote working condition, experience
in these digital world improve CV of candidate, employer consider these candidates who carry
valuable experience in the market, candidate can bring quality to their CV with online
experience.
Make your own experience:
Experience is most valuable assets in the employment world, employee with years of
experience have powerful CV allowing them to capture valuable job position in the market,
experience does matter when it comes to improving CV and becoming member of skilled
employee group. To improve CV, individual might need to focus on creating own experience,
this simply means individual need to start by their own without any employment in the firm
(Bakhshi and et.al., 2017). For example; a marketing expert might not work for firm but
individual manage small scale business and their marketing allowing them to explore market
condition and help them to improve their self-employed title.
Individual who focus on building their own experience faces certain type of challenges
and issue, building own experience is one of the most challenging task because individual might
fail to deliver quality of work. However, own experience provide two major benefit to the
individual including improvement in experience and continuous development of career.
Whereas, individual learn and improve their skills which further can be added to the career
development and employment process.
Connect with peers:
Individual who work outside employment world have more skills and experience than
usually employee because they know the market condition and condition of the business world.
These individual stay connected with peers and experts carrying valuable skills and experience

and advice on time.
Peers provide training to individual allowing them to improve their career and
experience, consulting with peers allow individual to improve their CV as well (Cirillo, 2017).
Individual need to connect themselves with peers who stay connected with career opportunities,
a good social connection may allow individual to become skilled in the workplace. Peers focus
on providing knowledge and experience to the individual, they allow individual to stay
connected with employer who demand these individual to join the employment process.
Individual was connected with peers in lock down era where these peers were sharing experience
and allowing individual to improve their level of skills, peers provide online training program
allowing individual to become effective.
2. Personal experience: Are you happy with your CV Why/why not?
CV play major role in career development process, individual with effective CV have
higher chances of getting position in the firm. I believe CV is most important and valuable assets
carried by every individual, this not only allow individual to get a job but this help them to
improve their lifestyle as well. I have valuable working experience which impact quality of my
CV, I am currently happy with CV and key skills included in the CV. However, I am seeking
better development opportunities allowing me to explore new area and ability. My CV is
effective as per me but I see major improve are to be included in the process to bring better
career and growth opportunities (Teixeira da Silva, Al-Khatib and Tsigaris, 2020).
CV I carry meet all expectations but still I need to explore new skills to improve the
quality. I am happy for the skills I carry which bring me better employment opportunities,
however, I still need training and enough knowledge to become effective in the market. My
personal experience allow me to explore different area of development, I meant to become
effective in employment world, I am currently focusing on gaining experience in workplace
pushing my limits to become better. To improve my career, I need to add new skills and ability
in the CV impacting my career development.

Selection of Eight skills that helps the students to develop within university setting and their
importance at work place
A university curriculum that aggregate skill based learning increases the creativity among
student, where having a skill makes them more accountable and responsible for their work (Riley
and et.al, 2020). Skills always plays a crucial role in growth of students in every phase of their
life whether they are in learning period or working in a company, it always makes sense for their
success rate. Skills helps in dealing with any sort of situation, it assisted the individual in making
better decision irrespective of any output which particular decision give. Some of the skills
which the student develops at university are discussed as below:
Self-management skill: To become a better self-manager concern with responsibilities, it helps
the one to be more productive in their work. this skill mainly concerns with resisting stress,
strengthening memory and exercise all supports the individual to achieve greater milestone in
what they are doing (Bauer, Link and Ganz, 2021). Benefit of this will lead to better productivity
as if person self-managed their emotions, work it overall improvises their time management, also
it makes the one to efficiently interact with others and develops relation so it will be good for
their mental health. Self-management also enables the individual to organise their work along
with their daily schedules so that they will not get depressed when any of the activities left out.
Importance at workplace: This skill plays a significant role at workplace setting it boost the
productivity and work performance of person, it supports in achievement of professional goals of
person. Having this skill makes the one to regulate as well as control their actions, emotions and
thoughts with this they can increase their focus on work that eventually helps in delivering the
better result of any task. Likewise, being efficient in managing the work will also help in to be
successful regarding goal setting efforts (Oliveri and McCulla, 2019). This skill is mainly in
demand where every organisation is looking for the candidate who have this skill as ultimately
having such person will support the desired goal achievement of the organisation.
Communication skill: As for the student they have to deal with lots of stuff and probably they
have to write a lot, where they also might involve with student journalism, writing articles,
essays. All of this will improve the written communication, university do not just make the one
better to write but they also help in improvising the ability to interface face to face with others.

Communication is not about language it about the one should speak for themselves and to clearly
convey their message and makes the other one understood. At university students are likely to
present presentation, they also work within a group so that their communication skill can be
improved or developed (Aryani and et.al, 2021). Along with this communication skill also
encourage the confidence in one, that makes them able to communicate with large audience
without being scared of anything.
Importance at workplace: This skill at workplace place an important role, it helps the one to
stick with their set goals and to work on it. Having communication skill assists the one to
efficiently communicate with their superiors, staff and peers no matter in what industries they are
working. Better communication also ensures that person have reliable information so that they
perform well and develop positive work place environment that discards the inefficiencies. At
workplace having relationship with peers ease out the work, but it also depends on this skill as it
gives the ability to one to exchange information with other and to form connection that helps in
working together for same project.
Time management skill: It is an ability which ensures the better and productively use of time,
it further concern with the setting goals, prioritising and delegating the task (El-Ashry, 2021). As
for the university student it is important for them to have this skill as this information is
associated with their long term goals, within educational settings if individuals have this skill
then they will be able to complete their assignment on time. along with this, time management
skill also concerns with prioritising the work on the basis of its importance and impact which
particular task will creates. Therefore, having this skill will allow the one to divides their work in
different modules so that important task can be done earlier so it avoids the time limitation
problem.
Importance at workplace: This skill makes the one to complete their project at given deadline, it
is obvious that at workplace all project comes up with certain deadline over which the employees
are asked to do that particular task at suggested deadline at any cost (Katerina and Theodora,
2018). Thus if one does not have this skill then they will not be able to outperform the task as
well as they face certain challenges like they will not be able to get appraisal, promotion from
senior management that affects their career. Thus overall having this skill will make them to
deliver the project at given time and makes their organisational goals achievable that ultimately
promotes their growth at work place.

Decision making skill: This skill is key to success at workplace as well as it is important every
day in personal life, most of the decision are more simple and other are automatic while some of

term productivity. At university students are more likely to make individual decision without

For an instance if one is leader at their organisation then in such situation it is must for them to
have such skill so that they better lead their team and smoothens the decision making power of
organisation. This skill also makes the one to think of best alternatives that can fit in particular
situation and give desired optimum results.
Complex problem solving skill: It is a combination of self-regulated and psychological process
and certain procedures that are essential in a dynamic environment setting. Such skill assists in
accomplishing the ill identified goals which is more difficult to achieve it with daily routine
settings (Wang, Liu and Parker, 2020). In duration of university, students are more likely to face
the situation where they have to deal with the tough scenario and to find the solution of it. where
they look for the peer support but sometimes they have to deal with situation individually, that
particular scenario helps in boosting this skill, so one should be ready to cope up with any
circumstances. This skill can be developed by identifying and understanding the right problem,
visualising the problem as well as brainstorming the efficient solution so that problem can be
addressed well.
Importance at workplace: As well as at workplace setting, this skill makes the one to provide
better outcomes to their organisation. as business always comes up with lots of complexities
where one should have to think out of the box in order to support the business objectives of
organisation. Having this skill makes the person to solve any critical situation for the business

In today’s era employers are more likely to see problem solving skill of candidate as it helps
them to show other competencies as well like logic, creativity, lateral thinking, work

Technological skill: Also termed as technical skill, it refers to one’s ability in using or dealing
with technical equipment and to work on computer machine based technology to complete any
tasks. Most essential technical skill is to have the computer literacy, database management,
website and software understanding, project management (BADAOUI, 2020). Basic computer
knowledge and other additional information helps the student to excel in their academic’s as
dealing with complex project is toughest task and to complete it in a given deadline is also
complex so having technical knowledge will enable them to make use of system and carry out
the project efficiently.
Importance at workplace: Technical skills is the major demand of the modern era, where
corporations are only hiring the one who have enough knowledge regarding, systems, software,
programming language knowledge as technologies helps their business to develop better
opportunities for the business (Pavlenko and Pavlenko, 2021). For an instance if one is able to
understand what digital technologies are and how to use it then it will be more efficient for that
particular organisation to carry out the marketing activities that gives the better audience
outreach. In any situation technical knowledge helps the corporation to create brand awareness
and to develop strong and potential consumer base.
Team working skill: It simply refers to the group of people who work for the same goal and
also shares the same interest. Team work always brings the positive result over which the success
criteria of the organisation depends. In a university students are more likely to work in a group
project in order to complete their assigned task, it is must that all students should be accountable
to work and to carry out their part task in efficient manner that must give the optimum result
(Gray and et.al, 2019). Sometimes team conflicts are commonly seen when everyone are
unaware of their duty in team work, in such it is important to first decide the task and to divide it
according to the specialism of particular individual so that better project outcomes can be

Importance at workplace: Any workplace produces the successful result when their employees
are able to do collaborative work efficiently (Kohnová and Papula, 2019). Workplace always
demands for the team work and better flow of communication to become more productive, thus
this skill makes it possible in such it is essential for the team leaders to better assign task to team
members so conflict chances can be reduced.
Taking constructive criticism: Constructive criticism is process of gaining feedback and
valuable response which allow employee to create a healthy workplace environment and allow
employee to become more confident. Constructive criticism take place when employee gain
positive feedback from Superior or subordinate providing their viewpoint over performance of
individual in the workplace.
Importance at workplace of constructive criticism can be seen when employee often feel
comfortable to ask certain question and seek help from others, this skill is one of the most
important for every employee to become confident in the workplace. Gaining feedback allow
employee to explore area of improvement and help employee to become confident in the
workplace.
