INTRODUCTION
Study skills are related to those skills which helps the individual to achieve success in
their academic life. Effective study skills increases motivation, confidence and competency. The
basic requirement of higher studies strong academic skills and basic knowledge about particular
field. It is required for individual to have following skills to complete higher education. This
report contains various features of academic writing and reflection on these features.
TASK
Choose four of the features of academic writing mentioned in the article above and discuss why
they are important.
Academic writing is related to formal way of writing any report used by various
educational purpose. This writing has predetermined structure and has many features and
qualities. Academic writing plays an important role in a student’s life because it develops various
skills such as writing skills, learning skills and these skills are used in many aspects of
individual's life. Brief discussion related to these features are given below:
Structured
Academic writing is done on the basis of prefixed structure because it is important for
formal purpose. There are three parts in formal report which is introduction, main body and
conclusion. All three parts are required to be addressed. It is a basic requirement for report
writing that it should have proper division of matter in different parts. Introduction contains basic
concept of the topic and this section is supported by various definitions and concepts. The word
limit of introduction must be less than main body. Another part of formal report is main body.
All the explanation related to topic is written in this section. This section holds major part of
report as all the questions and demand of brief are addresed in this part. The main body should
be logical and related to the topic. Irrelevant matter creates negative image of writer on the
minds of readers. Final part of report is conclusion. All the conclusive statement of writer which
he or she analyses from report are describes in this section. This section requires to be precise
and up to the mark.
Evidenced
Formal report is an important and useful document for others because it is used by many
peoples for their research and to gain knowledge on various topic. So, it is required to become

authentic and must be supported with evidence for formal report. References and sources are
evidence in formal report because it contains concnlusive evidence from various experts and
authors. All the facts and figures which are written in report are supported by online references.
It is required for formal report to have separate part for references. All the references are written
in this section in clean and precise manner. Report must contain proper in texting of every
reference on their place.
Balanced
It is compulsory for every formal report that there should be a proper balance of
importance between different parts of report because it protect writer from using irrelevant
matter. Word count should be divided as per predetermined limit for every part of report. Formal
report contains different issues, problems, suggestion and ideas. It is required for writer to
become unbiased towards every aspect of report. It is the duty of the writer to present different
facts and figures in their report without getting biased on particular aspect of issue and figure.
Formal
The main purpose of academic writing is to present different aspect of any topic in formal
style. It is the basic requirement of academic writing to be written in formal structure because
informal writing is not considered in academic writing. There is prefixed structure to write any
report and this structure is created on the basis of formal style. There are many formal words and
phrases which is provided by various field experts and authors to use in formal report. Writer
can take help from these words and make their report formal.
Describe your personal experience: Since you started this course, what have you learned that can
improve your own academic writing?
In this report I need to describe the various features of academic writing. I need to
describes the importance of formality, evidence, structure and balance in academic writing. The
major outcome of this work that it develops my academic knowledge. And I want to make more
reports to achieve great competency in academic writing. When I was starting this project I feel
very anxiety but after I go through the brief it feel very confident and enthusiastic while doing
this project and its my personal experience that readers of this report also feels the same feeling
because this report contains many features. Now I feels very confident that these features makes
individual's academic report attractive and useful. The positive aspect which I analyse from these
features that it may develops many qualities in personality such as communication skills and

various interpersonal skills. I use my strength related to writing as a contribution in this academic
writing from my side. The aspects which I analyse from this academic writing is that it motivates
the writers to achieve competency in writing and also analyses many positive impacts such as
skill development, knowledge enhancement and creating morale. I have learned various skills of
writing from this project report as it develops many features in my personality which I recognise
as important feature while doing formal report. It is required for me to develop level of discipline
in my writing career. It is concluded from me that formal report is incomplete without the
presence of these features in my report matter.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from this report that all the features such as balance, formal, evidence and
structure are important aspect of academic writing. The formal writing is incomplete without the

different statements which proves significance of formal structure in academic writing. There
are many suggestion present in this report which helps the writers to make their report writing
more attractive. The final part of this report contains reflective statement from my side. This
statement contains my personal experience about the topic.
