INTRODUCTION
The needs of the future generations were met without affecting the own needs is known
as Sustainability. Environment, social and economic are the three principles of sustainability
(Antoncic, 2019).
The report will evaluate why should sustainability adopted by the company. The report
will identify the sustainability initiatives. Further, the report will identify the sustainability
initiative which company can adapt. The report will also provide the justification on the adopting
of the selected initiatives. Further, the report identified the product and service offered by the
Sainsbury. The report will provide a forecast of the development of the initiatives in the future.
MAIN BODY
Why Sustainability should be adopted?
To the future generation's sustainability protects the ecosystem, improves the quality
lives, natural resources were preserved. There would be the diminishing of the available source
due to the growing of population. Natural resource can be conserved through the development of
the sustainable resources. There are some reason which will provide the importance of adopting
sustainability (Nishant, Kennedy and Corbett, 2020). The reasons are as follows:
Marine and aquatic life can be saved through the reduction in the usage of plastic.
Decomposing of plastic in the nature take minimum of 15-20 years and the maximum of
1000 years. There was no decomposition of the first plastic created in the environment. Ban the
usage of the plastic is the first step which business can adopt for the reduction of the waste of
plastic (Antoncic, 2019). In the daily lifestyle there should be the replacement of the plastic
waste by using of eco-friendly method.
Carbon emission should diminish for the living sustainability.
The generation of the carbon emission in the everyday life by the public due to the waste
generated in the household, more use of the mode of transport, using of the chemical waste. The
level of intake of pure oxygen was endangered due to the increase in the number of carbon
footprint (de Oliveira and et.al., 2019). To live the sustainable life there are number of ways for
reducing the carbon footprints such as following the method of recycling.
With the growing technologies there will be the moving towards the renewable energy
source.

With the growing technologies there will be the moving towards the renewable energy
source.
The environment destruction is caused due to the dependence of the growing technology.
There would be avoided to the depletion of the resource through the solutions. Using of the
renewable energy product by utilizing of the eco-friendly appliances. Along the daily life the
conservation of resource plays a significant role.
The growing of global issues can get the solution.
The problem of undistributed hunger is the major global issues in the world (Antoncic,
2019). Some countries were able to reduce the issue while some countries fail in achieving
objective. There was the solution of the issue through the sustainability. Reduction in the energy
consumption and the carbon emission is not only the way of living sustainability. Promoting of
the way of living life, healthy trade is also the part of living sustainability.
The responsibility towards the viable living also increased through the viable living.
To protect the environment the first step for every individual is to adapt change in itself.
It is a privilege to gift the natural resources to the younger generation, it is the responsibility for
the conservation of resources. There would be an inspiration to others from the way the another
individual living (de Oliveira and et.al., 2019).
Initiatives of Sustainable
There are some initiative which were taken in the everyday life to increase the life of
sustainability. Around the world there are lot of initiatives. The initiatives are as follows:
Prevention of pollution.
Solar glass.
Initiative of the green building.
Conservation of resource.
Garden of Supermarket Herb (Srivastava, Dharwal and Sharma, 2021).
Alternative of plastic with natural way.
Food waste fuelled in the vans of Waitrose Delivery.
Zero carbon Emission.
Waste Reduction.
Using trash bins for cleaning the oceans.
To implement the strategies of the sustainability business can use several strategies.

through purchasing the product which have less packaging. The generated waste can be reduced
by making better choices in supplies of office item purchasing. Recycling is the another major
issues for the company (Charlesworth, Stewart and Sainsbury, 2018). To reduce the waste in the
company, business should implement the program of recycling. There should provide the
education to the employees about the procedures and the facts of recycling. Reusing of the
materials will also benefit the company in reduction of the waste. Environment will benefit by
reducing of the wastage as it impacts in the production of the new material through the decrease
in the demand.
The natural resources such as the air, soil and water can impact from the pollution.
Reducing the waste from the source is referred as prevention of pollution. To prevent the
pollution there are the strategies for the company to follow such as reduction of carbon footprint
goals. Examples, less or non-toxic substance using, reusing of the materials like shop towels,
scrap from the production. Using the less emission waste in the process of production. Packaging
of product reusing.
Ethical and efficient use of resource like raw material, water and energy in practice is
referred as the conservation of resource (Nishant, Kennedy and Corbett, 2020). Examples, use
water landscape in the reducing manner, using the system of automatic light shut off, becoming
more conscientious to employees by engaging. Using of efficient energy bulb lights, while
producing the goods there can reduce in the scrap material by the organization.
Carbon dioxide emission should be reduced in the process of carbon footprint reducing, it
will help in the contribution to the global warming. Examples, Carbon footprint can be reduced
by reducing the wastage, renewable energy investing, low emission vehicle purchasing
(Srivastava, Dharwal and Sharma, 2021). To reduce the carbon footprint emission in the
organization the best step is to recycle the products at own workplace. Thus, the scratch can be
recycled for creation of the products. There impact in the raw material reduction. For example, a
computer can work for full hour by recycling of a single tin.
Sainsbury Company product and service offered and the initiative adopted by it
The company which was selected is Sainsbury plc which is located in London, United
Kingdom. Sainsbury is the second largest supermarket in United Kingdom. Sainsbury is offering
quality products to its customers. Thus, there will be usage of lot of plastics in the packaging of
food. Therefore, Sainsbury should adopt the initiative of alternative way of using plastic.

Adopting of the initiatives will help the company in becoming sustainability. There will be the
protection of the environment due to the reduction of the plastic. The customers of UK were
conscious about the safety of the environment thus they were more likely demanding for
purchasing of the alternative packaging food (Boylan and et.al., 2019). Thus, adopting of the
strategy will help in increase in the life of the product and will also generate more sales. There
will be the reduction of the 50 percent of the plastic waste till 2025. There will be a usage of the
own bags by the customers for purchasing from supermarket stores. Customers who do not bring
their own bag have an option of purchasing the recycled plastic bottle bag. To the packaging of
the water and the milk there was a reduction of the weight of plastic. The zero wastage on the
environment was achieved by the Sainsbury and it was the first retailer who achieved it.
The another initiative business were adopting is the reduction of waste of food. The waste
of the food can occur due to the change in the climate. Loose food which were provided to
customer can be impact due to the change in the environment. Till 2030 company was planning
to reduce 50 percentage of food waste (Sainsbury and et.al., 2019). To reduce the wastage
company made easier to recycle for the customer by increasing the own operation of using
recycle. Sainsbury was engaged with the suppliers on the Waste Action roadmap. To the UK
farms the additional food was distributed by Sainsbury for the animal feeding. From 2018
company was the member of the UK food reduction roadmap.
The next initiatives which company should adopt is the net zero emission till 2040. To
become net zero till 2040 in its all operations Sainsbury committed to invest approx £1 billion
over the 20 years. Over the fifteen-year business achieved 40 percent reduction of carbon
emission, the estate was increased by 46 percent due to the impact of it. Using of the renewable
in the operations which will result in the net zero green house emission. Adopting of the
initiative will be benefit in becoming the clean environment (Charlesworth, Stewart and
Sainsbury, 2018). Energy efficiency was maximizing in the operations by cutting the carbon
which will help the business to sustainability grow. Every business operations impact due to the
global challenges such as the scarcity of resources and change in the climate. Sainsbury has
planned to run zero emission vehicles and vans for the transporting of products in the business.
The groceries were transported through the fully electric refrigerator trailers. Sainsbury will be
the first retailer who introduce the trailer of fully electric refrigerator. This will impact the
protection of the environment due to the reduction of the plastic. The customers of UK were
conscious about the safety of the environment thus they were more likely demanding for
purchasing of the alternative packaging food (Boylan and et.al., 2019). Thus, adopting of the

the first retailer who introduce the trailer of fully electric refrigerator. This will impact the
environment in positive way as there will be low noise emission, reduction in the smoke, dirt and
dust in the air.
Sainsbury can also adapt the initiative of conservation of resource which will benefit the
company in reduction of expense and will benefit to both environment and the business. Using
the latest technology of automatic light off will reduce the electricity consumption. There should
provide the knowledge to the employees of reducing the wastage of water (Boylan and et.al.,
2019). Natural resources were protected and prevented through the conservation of resources.
Recycling of the scrap while the production of product will help the business to achieve the
sustainability. Thus, the adoption of the initiative will take time and incur some cost to the
company but it will benefit the company in achieving the long term and short term goal.
Future of the Zero carbon emission
My personal on the sustainable initiative is zero carbon emission. The whole lifestyle of
business and individual will change by adopting the initiative. There will not produce any carbon
dioxide from the production of the goods and services. Business energy cost will be reduced due
to the reduction of the carbon emission (Silvestre and Ţîrcă, 2019). The budget of the business
will be maintained due to the use of renewable energy, switching to cheaper alternative by
cutting of emission. The place where uncontrolled of carbon emission may impact due to the
reduction of emission attempted by another place. In the future the temperature would rise due to
the zero carbon emission. Sainsbury will able to achieve higher profit in the operations from
adopting the zero carbon emission in the business. Using of more renewable energy is the
alternative for reduction of carbon emission. There will be the clean of the global environment in
the future by adopting of zero carbon emission and it is the most important impact.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the above report that the development of the business in the
future without depleting the natural resources. The economic, natural and social needs were
required in the sustainable. Thus, the report identified the importance of adopting sustainability.
Further, the report evaluated the initiatives of sustainability such as reduction of the waste of
plastic, pollution prevention, etc. The report evaluated the adoption of the initiatives by
Sainsbury. Sainsbury has adopted the initiative of reduction of carbon emission, reduction of the
dust in the air.
Sainsbury can also adapt the initiative of conservation of resource which will benefit the
company in reduction of expense and will benefit to both environment and the business. Using
