INTRODUCTION – JEFF BEZOS (CEO- AMAZON)
• During his childhood, the founder and CEO of
Amazon Jeff Bezos spent his summers repairing
equipment and fixing windmills on the ranch of his
grandfather in Texas. Although these experiences
might have seemed not important or insignificant at
that time, at present Bezos credits his summers
tinkering with ranch equipment for his penchant for
different experiments. It is the element or factor
which motivates him to push own boundaries.

• A customer first mindset
• A focus on the road map for the future
• Willingness to acquire new institutional skills and take risks
• Focusing on process not failure

A CUSTOMER FIRST MINDSET
• Bezos has put main stress on customer value since the establishment of
Amazon in the year 1997 as the primary objectives objective or goal of
Amazon. Bezos said in his establishment letter to shareholders in the year
1997, that the Long-term shareholder value of their company will be a direct
outcome of our capability to solidify and extend our existing market
leadership position.

A FOCUS ON THE ROAD MAP FOR THE
FUTURE
• For Jeff Bezos, works according to the future road map, he works by assigning day to day
business activities to others. Jeff is highly futuristic and focus on long term thinking.

WILLINGNESS TO ACQUIRE NEW
INSTITUTIONAL SKILLS AND TAKE RISKS
• Since the year 1997, Jeff has demonstrated a willingness to take risks and develop new
skills along with learning from the failures. First foray by Amazon into hardware in
the year 2007 was the Kindle. During the introduction of this product in the Amazon
board the planned delivery date was very unrealistic.

FOCUSING ON PROCESS NOT FAILURE
• Experimenting is an effective way that assist in transforming an idea into reality. It is
the method through which great initiatives turn into new and successful markets. At
the time when Amazon turns profitable beyond bookselling, Jeff Bezos made a risky
decision of building a number of big warehouses across the country.
