1THE SUCCESS FACTORS FOR ERP IMPLEMENTATIONAbstractERP system has a significant effect on thesuccess of the business as well asmanagement of an organization. However,many of the organizations face severalchallenges in implementation of ERP as wellas integrating legacy system. The studyanalyzes and explores a list of success alongwith failure factors of ERP implementationin the Middle East region. Thedistinctiveness between the process ofimplementation in government as well asprivate sector is varied. In the present study,Omantel, a telecommunication company inOman has been selected for finding thesuccess factors for ERP implementation.Keywords:Enterprise resource planning(ERP), business process, implementation ofERP, critical success factors, enterprisesystemsIntroductionEnterprise resource planning (ERP) isknown as one of the most as well ascomplicated field of information systemsimplementations in governmental or privateenterprises. There are several advantages ofERP systems such as productivity,management, finance as well as integrationof the system providing integrated systemprocedures for effective management,optimization as well as allocation of theresources. A failure or limitation of successis conclusion of several ERPimplementations. The rate of failure has ahigh percentage and exceeds 60%.The major objectives of the paper isjustification of success factors of the ERPimplementation is making comparison of thedifferences in ERP implementation ingovernment and private enterprise in orderto analyze the factors affecting ERPimplementation in the Middle East Region.The study helps to assess ERPimplementation strategy in Omantel as well

It will assist boosting the business aswell as enhance productivity in public andprivate enterprises.ERP OverviewThe concept of ERP is integrating andmaking automatic business procedure in asingle database for developing bettercommunication between specificdepartments of the enterprise [2]. Moreover,ERP is supportive to take decisions andassists in predicting the future of theparticular business.Public Vs Private EnterprisesImplementation of ERP in private sector iscomparatively easier than implementing inthe government organizations. In the privatesector, there are several reasons areresponsible for it. In the private sector,flexible procedures are followed along withbusiness rules. On the other hand, the rulesand processes in the governmental sectorhave restrictions [1]. There is even anyperson to change the process. Moreover, thetop management in the private sectorfocuses with same vision and working toboost the business as well as enhanceproductivity. However, members of topmanagement in the governmental sector areseemed to fight for a position and havedistinctive visions along with viewpoint.For instances, in Sultan Qaboos University,there were several meetings related toimplementation of information system inorder to manage research projects in theuniversities as well as storing informationand publication of researcher for thepurposes of security. The team of theuniversity has made a decision regarding

On the other hand, DVC officeteam had decided to develop internaldatabase. However, the director ofinformation system center did not agree theconcept of developing new database anddecided to develop new ERP system in orderto manage research projects, students as wellas information of staffs along withgraduation system for integrating withpresent ERP system in an Oracle product.The team of information system center ofthe organization is searching as well asassessing several ERP vendors in order toselect suitable packages [3]. However, theydo not understand anything regarding thebusiness demands from the side a deanshipof research along with the deputy vicechancellor team. However, the process ofimplementing the system is not known.ERP critical success factorsThe key success factors of implementingERP need to understand by the users.However, critical success factors of theorganization are different as per the structureof the organization. Along with this, the sizeand expertise are included as the factors [5].In the Middle East region, the main factorsof success ERP implementation areimportant to be identified. The factors canbe described as followed.Support from top management is consideredas the most critical success factors inimplementation of ERP in the particularregion. The second critical success factor isproject management. Non-effectiveallocation of resources, unrealizableexpectations as well as changingrequirement while implementing ERP can beharmful for implementation process.
