"Success is rarely, if ever, dependent on one person, no matter how good the leader
might be. Do you agree with this idea? Why or why not? Support your response using
theories/frameworks/tools and examples from your own experience."
Success is not about how a single person is efficient in performing own activities but it is
a joint effort by every member of the team and their consistent hard work that brings success.
Brock, McAliney, Ma & Sen (2017) opined, a great team leader can only motivate his team to
perform better but it will not be possible without the team members dedication to achieve
success at any given objectives. Recently I have lead a team of twenty two members for
managing logistics for a solar car project. Here I was able to execute all the planning only
because the team was supportive and worked in coordinated manner. As per the expertise of my
team members work categories were divided. It helped me in getting positive results from every
area of the job as each team members worked efficiently at their expertise area. It can be
therefore said that success cannot be achieved by the hard work of a single person. The
collaboration of a group of people and the bonding of the team members are the key to success.
According to the Tuckerman teamwork theory, there is a certain link between the group
relationship and task focus. The best results can be achieved when there is a bonding between the
team members and they are all focused on the task that they have been assigned (Laberge, 2016).
His model elaborates different stages in teamwork. In the first stage, its simple orientation and
understanding task which is followed by degrees of conflicts are very common which settles
automatically. The theory states that when team reaches a cohesive phase, they move to the next
functional phase where they focus on each of their job roles for achieving a common objective
(Laberge, 2016). From personal experience, it is also been observed that teams go through
different phrases but ultimately it is the group of people who are going to finish the task.
Therefore an efficient team work always achieves a greater results than individual performance
in the path of success.
