Tracheostomy
Tracheostomy is a clinical procedure to make
a surgical opening in the neck to reach
trachea (Crosbie, Cairney & Calder, 2014).
It is preferred in medical conditions where
ventilators are used for longer time or the
airway is narrowed down or blocked (Berney,
Wasserfallen & Grant, 2014).
The purpose of this report is to illustrate the
principles involved in the post operative care
of patients with tracheostomy.
Tracheostomy is a clinical procedure to make
a surgical opening in the neck to reach

which requires extreme care.
Lack of knowledge imposes pressure on the
nursing students to identify the
contraindications, signs of infection and
handle emergency care.
It will help me develop my knowledge about
implementing effective nursing care plans for
the patients having undergone tracheotomy.
