Introduction
Supply chain management is considered as the flow of goods and services and it
involves the movement and storage of raw materials. As stated by Christopher (2016) it helps
in identifying the point of consumption that is needed for the development of an inventory so
that proper management of the materials and the processes take place. The focus of the
assignment is on Gilbarco Veeder-Root, a company located in North Carolina (Gilbarco.com
2019).
The assignment provides an overview of the company and the manner in which the
different aspects of supply chain that can be applicable for the company. At the same time,
the decision support software system that is used by Gilbarco Veeder-Root to enhance the
decision-making is also highlighted in the assignment. Furthermore, recommendations are
provided that can help Gilbarco Veeder-Root to continue with its business activities and
ensure that the growth of the company in the field of supplies continues.
Overview of the company
Gilbarco Veeder-Root or Gilbarco Inc, is a company that is headquartered in
Greensboro, North Carolina. It is a manufacturing industry and is a supplier of fuel
dispensers, point of sales system, payment systems and forecourt merchandising
(Gilbarco.com 2019). Gilbarco Veeder-Root has employee strength of over 4000 people all
across the world that is spread across countries like United Kingdom, Egypt, Italy, France,
New Zealand and so on (Gilbarco.com 2019). These locations comprise of various
departments of the company such as the sales, manufacturing, research and development
departments.

The revenue generated by the company is close to $250 million (Gilbarco.com 2019).
Apart from the international countries, Gilbarco Veeder-Root also have manufacturing units
in local regions such as Simsbury, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Iowa and so on
(Gilbarco.com 2019). Some of the products that are served by the company include automatic
tank gauging and fuel management system, which includes the Red Jacket brand of
submersible pumps.
Different aspects of supply chain
As stated by Hugos (2018) for a business to succeed, it is necessary that two things of
the supply chain management be effective. One is the cost and the other is the timely
delivery. In this regard, the different aspects of supply chain management that can be used by
Gilbarco Veeder-Root include:
Planning: Planning is considered as an important stage mainly because without
proper planning, Gilbarco Veeder-Root can find it difficult to form effective strategies so that
it may have an impact on the development of the effective goods and services. The
finalisation of the supply chain process can lead to the progress of the strategy.
Information: The domination in the world is based on the continuous flow of
information. Latest information can help Gilbarco Veeder-Root to understand the strength it
possess and ensure that the strengths are used for the development of the company. Monczka
et al. (2015) is of the opinion that information about aspects such as market or competitor is
crucial for the development of a knowledge-based world economy.
Source: It is evident that the suppliers play a crucial role in the development of
supply chain management. Gilbarco Veeder-Root needs to use sources such as vendors and

items and raw materials need to be managed by the company so that proper manufacturing
and sales of the product are made (Mangan, Lalwani and Lalwani 2016).
Production: Production of proper quality products is an important aspect of success
for Gilbarco Veeder-Root. Proper production is possible only if all the components of the
supply chain management are aligned with one another. For Gilbarco Veeder-Root, the
production of automatic tank gauging is followed by final preparation and its delivery
(Gilbarco.com 2019).
Location: Gilbarco Veeder-Root is located at the business hub in North Calorina and
thus gains the opportunity to be involved with customers and suppliers. The location of a
company helps in mitigating any type of scarcity. For example, the location at the business
centre has mitigated any scarcity related to gain raw materials for the technological aspect of
its product (Gilbarco.com 2019).
Transportation: Transportation of goods is vital for the movement of the products
from one place to another. Being situated at the business centre, Gilbarco Veeder-Root can
ensure that timely transportation of goods can be made by setting up business deals with
transport companies (Gilbarco.com 2019). Thus, Gilbarco Veeder-Root can meet the second
aspect of supply chain management.

In the modern world, the advent of digitalisation as well as the development of
technology has created a huge impact in the development of business. In this regard, it can be
said that in supply chain decision-making, the support provided by the software systems act
as a support for the development of channels at the workplace. According to Fredendall and
Hill (2016), the value chain component in a decision support system helps in the development
of software as well as technology that can be used for the development of supply chain
management.
In this regard, example can be provided about the use of the decision support system
in terms of software. Coyle et al. (2016) is of the opinion that the application of computer has
evolved in the modern times and managers can use the tool to take decisions related to the
management of inventory as well as the transportation of goods. In the case of Gilbarco
Veeder-Root, it is necessary that the company identify the manner in which software can help
in the management of transport as well as the equipments that can be used for effectively
continuing with the process of supply chain (Gilbarco.com 2019).
Decision regarding the suppliers need to be taken by the use of software so that
Gilbarco Veeder-Root can identify the perfect and effective suppliers that can help in the
development of the company and ensure that the goods and services are delivered properly.

Recommendation
Therefore, based on the analysis of the aspects of supply chain management and the
use of software for the development of supply chain support system, it can be said that
recommendations can be provided to Gilbarco Veeder-Root so that the company can grow
and maintain an effective supply chain management system in the business. One such
recommendation that can be provided is the effective use of the software that helps in
monitoring the transport of the company. Managers need to take decisions based on the
routes chosen by the transportation system in trying to deliver goods to the customers.
It is essential to keep in mind that timely delivery is a factor that determines the
development of a company, it is necessary that Gilbarco Veeder-Root identify the smartest
route that can help in the timely delivery of products. At the same time, another
recommendation that can be made is the fact that Gilbarco Veeder-Root need to analyse the
internal capabilities and ensure that the inventory remains free so that the company can
manufacture more products. A limited number of products need to be maintained so that it
can have enough products for supply and at the same time ensure scope for new products also
exist.

Therefore, it can be concluded that in order to develop a proper supply chain
management, it is necessary Gilbarco Veeder-Root identify and apply changes in its existing
supply chain process. The use of software for the decision-making can help the company to

the company are maintained in a proper manner. At the same time, it is also essential for
Gilbarco Veeder-Root to determine the aspects that can be used by the company for its proper
development. For example, managing the inventory of the products can help in retaining the
balance between the new and existing products that the company possess. Hence, the
