P1: Impact of Significant Life Events on an Individual
I as a healthcare provided once looked after a pregnant lady who never initially thought
that pregnancy would become such a significantly life defining event for her and have such an
immense impact on her as an individual. But after the ordeal was over, she was truly a changed
person who understood the significance and impact pregnancy can have on any woman, whether
she is prepared for the experience or unprepared. Though she was lucky enough by God’s grace
to come out of such a significant life defining event, having a positive experience and my baby
being born safely, she can now understand the pain and heartache of couples and their relatives
who unfortunately face complications during pregnancy and have to endure negative experience

who unfortunately face complications during pregnancy and have to endure negative experience
(World Health Organization, 2016). Thankfully, she had the help of extremely capable
healthcare providers who looked after all of her healthcare needs and a loving family who also
took immense care of her during such a precarious period of pregnancy.
I also provided care to a male who had suffered damages and broken his hand in a car
accident Pregnancy and the car accident became such a significant life event in both their lives
and affected them in various different ways:
Physical Impact: Pregnancy had immense impact on the lady’s personal physique in addition to
the traditional vomiting and sickness. During the later months of her pregnancy period, she was
asked by me, her healthcare professional to remain completely bid ridden, which had a massive
impact on her physically. Though by then her belly had grown a significant amount, she still
enjoyed taking occasional walks, which was now advised against and her family wouldn’t allow
her any kind of physical exercise or even remote exertion out of fear of numerous complications
that might arise. Though she now realises this was necessary, pregnancy made her quite
physically lethargic and the inactivity also bored me immensely. But she was also exclusively
given nutritious food, which ultimately helped by body cope with the demands of pregnancy.
The male recovering from car crash was also bed ridden for a long time, with his hand plastered.
This also made him very lethargic and impatient due to his inability to move from bed.
Emotional Impact: Pregnancy also had significant impact on the lady’s emotional and mental
wellbeing. This was also a lot due to how ignorant and unprepared she was for the life defining
event that is pregnancy in a woman’s life. During the starting months, she was quite scared about
every little change in her body and had to call up me for now seemingly obvious symptoms as
she had absolutely no idea how her body was supposed to react to such a change (de Masi and
et.al., 2017). During the middle months of pregnancy, she had constant mood changes where she
would snap back at her friends and husband for no reason only to apologise profusely and cry
one hour later for her rude behaviour. All this also added to the stress of being pregnant which
was emotionally taxing for her. The male also became quite depressed as his car had completely
been destroyed in the car crash, which was a gift from his late father. He became a recluse for
few weeks as he coped with the trauma.
Social and Economic Impact: During the later stages of the lady’s pregnancy when she was
asked to remain bed ridden, she had immense issues with the loss of her independence which
took immense care of her during such a precarious period of pregnancy.

only subsided after guidance from her mother. Though thankfully her family and she were
financially secure to get her through this significant life event, it still to this day amazes her just
how significant an impact pregnancy can have on one financially (Tunçalp and et.al., 2017). One
thing she ended up enjoying was meeting new mothers and asking them for advice on how she
should operate in such a delicate period, which was highly informative for her and also allowed
her to create friends. Contrastingly, The recovery was a costly process for the male, as he had
little disposable personal income. He had to take loans from his relatives which depressed him
even further.
Intellectual Impact: Through pregnancy, the lady’s complete understanding of the hardships and
pain a woman can face changed dramatically. Coming out of pregnancy she was not just
immensely proud of herself for being able to endure such hardships, but was also proud of her
mother and all woman in general who have to go through such a difficult period, sometimes even
alone without much care. The male on recovery gained new appreciation for road safety laws and
vowed to never drive above the speed limit, understanding its significance.
P2: Impact of Significant Life Event on Individual’s Family and Social Network
As pregnancy and the car crash became such a significant life event not just for both the
lady and the male but also for their family, friends and social network, it ended up having a
major impact on their lives, roles and responsibilities as well.
Impact on Family: Through all the pain and hardships, joy and excitement that the lady now
believe pregnancy to be, her family was always with her, by her side, providing their unyielding
and eternal support to her, guiding her through the phases of pregnancy and making her feel
proud, even when she wasn’t feeling good about herself. Her husband was a constant pillar that
she leaned against and took care of her every need, requirement, whim or even brattish demands
even at the cost of his job sometimes (Braun and et.al., 2017). The patience with which the
husband sometimes took care of her deepened their bond and proved that he would make just as
good a father as he was a husband. She also heavily relied on her mother’s guidance too during
later stages, when she moved in with the lady to provide help and support to them. Her
pregnancy I think had the same impact on her as on her mother, as she too constantly worried
about the lady’s and her baby’s health and went out of her way to provide pregnant lady with
every comfort imaginable. The male was also frequently visited by his wife, but also missed her

a lot as she had to work and wasn’t always available. Though in the end it was only through the
help of the wife that he could cope with the accident and recover.
Impact on Friends: The lady’s friends also felt major impact in their lives due to her pregnancy,
her close friends and neighbours always made themselves available for any little requirement and
many times came over to entertain and cheer her up during the later stages of her pregnancy. Her
friends gifted her a lot of useful equipment that new parents would require as a gesture of how
much they cared, which affected her deeply. Pregnancy ended up deepening the bonds she had
with her friends. The male also had a vibrant friend circle one of whom was always present with
him as his wife had work. This was surprising for the male who upon recovery gave a grand
celebration to his friends, thanking them for their role in his recovery.
Impact on Social Network: When the lady told her working colleagues that she was pregnant
during my third month and was given maternity leave for the rest of the period, she was surprised
at how much they cared for her and wanted to help (Gold and et.al., 2016). Many of her co-
workers took time out of their lives to come visit her in hospital and later during her delivery in
an effort to cheer her up and to provide her with any help required. This made her realise just
how lucky she was to have such good social network. The male’s professional colleagues also
visited quite often to check on his progress and recovery. This made him realise the importance
of the professional interpersonal relationships he had forged and made him value his co-workers
even more who would take time out of their lives to visit him.

woman become very sensitive in her time period of pregnancy. On this situation, each social
health care organisation is responsible to create or develop some productive policies for a
pregnant woman. On the other side, society is also responsible to follow each policy in practical
life, because these steps will make happy to pregnant woman. For example; a woman is working
in a store, in this situation top-level management of that store should provide a specific
relaxation to that woman in her time period of pregnancy. The management is highly responsible
to follow each policy in practical life which to different healthcare organisations has passed in
welfare of pregnant woman. Many policies have created for a victim of road accident as well.
For example; when a person faced road accident, then social healthcare organisations provides
them free ambulance services and appropriate treatment.
Currently government of the United Kingdom has passed special legal and ethical
considerations in the favour of pregnant woman. NHS is also a small governing body, so each
people, company and business is responsible to follow such all laws, policies and regulations
practically which developed and passed in welfare of pregnant woman (Etilé and et.al., 2017).
Currently many commercial organisations are systematically following these policies and
regulations in their workplace. For example; they provide separate toilet facilities to pregnant
woman. These organisations provide leave facility to pregnant woman in her last four months of
pregnancy. On the other side, people help to that person in practical life who faced road accident.
These practices of local people and healthcare organisation are symbol of humanity. These are
some major examples which completely shows an effective relationship between organisational
policies and practical support.
