INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the report is to develop an understanding about supporting use of
medication in social care setting. Project will have focus on identifying the present policies as
legislations which regulates the handling of medicine in social care setting. Another objective of
study is to assist individual in developing safer professional practices. It is required by service
provider to create their own practices so that medicines are administered more safely and drug
errors are reduced. This report will also support person in developing the understanding about
way of doing work with other people in different social care setting in order to deliver quality as
well as effective service to people in the society.
TASK 1
P1 Summarising the current policies and legislation that governs the handling of medication in
social care setting
There are many laws that regulate or govern the ways' medicine can be prescribed
dispensed and administered. Some laws are:
Medicine Act 1968-This law is concerned with licensing, supply, sales and manufacture of
medicines. It dictates that medicines can be disposed by a pharmacist after they have been
prescribed by a medical practitioner or expert or by qualified person such as a doctor, dentist or
vet. In some cases, healthcare professionals who has undergone special training can also
prescribe medicine.
Misuse Drugs Act 1971-This regulation or norm has been formulated by the medical authority or
government for controlling utilisation of potentially harmful medicines. It describes the way the
harmful medicines or drugs should be stored. Misuse Drugs Act 1971, provides the guideline
which defines the specific time period up to which specific medicine can be consumed after
which drugs get expired.
Misuse of drug regulation 2001-This regulation or legislation is designed for controlling or
preventing the non-medical use of certain drugs, particularly that can lead to dependency.
Health Act-This act provides several monitoring arrangement for controlling the usage of certain
medicine.
Misuse of Drugs Safe Custody Regulations 2007-This legislation is related to handling, storing
and keeping records about controlled drugs (Dubel and et.al., 2014)

Health and social care Act 2008-This act lays down the responsibilities of Registered Manager in
a care setting for protecting people in relation to the risks presented by medicines.Some policies
are:
Medical policy- This states that all the care homes is required to have medical policies in order to
provide nurses as well as care workers a guidance related to process for medicine management
that involves storage, ordering and disposables procedure. These policies will aid social care
home in eliminating the medicine errors.
P2 Explaining the roles as well as responsibilities of those involved in supporting the use of
medication in social care setting
The roles of those involved in supporting the use of medication in social care setting is to
collect all the essential information about the patient including medical history. These people are
accountable for prescribing the current dosage and making follow up appointment (Bodenheimer
and Pham, 2010). It is the duty as well as responsibility of person who is disposing medicine to
ensure that prescription is legal and signed by a medical practitioner or qualified person who has
undergone through special training. Role of social care worker is to provide advice and treatment
for any minor illnesses and health concerns. It is the responsibility of medical professional to
ensure that all the medicines are clearly labelled with the proper instructions of the dose (Grasso,
2016)
P3 Explaining the way information about an individual medication can be accessed
The effective way of collecting the information about an individual medication can be
accessed through directly communicating with patient. As this will support medical professional
in identifying the problem faced by the person and recognising their needs. But in some cases,
this solution may not work. The other method is consulting with patient family members,
analysing the medical history and medicine taken by patients. Another effective method is
checking the MAR to identify the medicines an individual is taking. Conducting Research for
gathering information about the medicines by utilising the BNF and any other sources
(Gunningham and Sinclair, 2014).
P 4 Describing the routes by which medication can be administered
The basic need of administering medicines is it is required by medical professional to
ensure that an individual has depth knowledge about the medicine prescribed. The medical

professional can administered medicine by reading or observing the pharmacy labelled container
and checking the name of person before prescribing medicine. It is essential for manager in
social care home to make training arrangement for agency workers, so that they can easily
administer medicines. Adopting or utilising the MAR chart in order to ensure that all the
Medicines needed at that time of day are administered (Henderson and Henderson,
PrimeWellness, 2015).
P.5. Identify different forms in which medication may be presented
There are several form in which effective medication can be presented in each social help
needed person within critical condition of peoples in the society (Reeves and et.al., 2011). Social
care worker and support worker need to provide effective medicines like solid medication for
their relative diseases. Ike for Tb diseases social care worker can provide efficient medication
treatment to those persons like furnish relevant tablets, in they suffering high level of cough
diseases then support medical professionals can provide appropriate syrups and drops in order to
feel them better.
P.6. Explain how equipment can assist in the administration of medication
There are several kinds of equipments are available in medical care centre in order to
provide appropriate and sufficient treatment in critical condition of patients in the society. If a
person having Asthma in their life then they can utilise of spacers equipment in order to provide
sufficient current treatment. Spacer can be used in critical condition of patients (Care Quality
Commission, 2012). Spacer is made out of totally plastic. Spacer spray proper remedy towards
the lungs of the patient in effective way so that it helps the patient to instant relaxation from
Asthma.

and day to day basis in order to provide appropriate medication to an Asthma patient in the social
care setting in effective manner in order to reduce their disease in efficiently (Sheldon, 2011).
P.8. Explain the safe storage of different medications
Mostly medications are stored in the cool, dry and dark palace in the room for example:
store medication far away from burning thins and kitchen which like stoves, sink, and any other
hot appliances because of that factors can destroy the effectiveness of your medication in that
places. You could save your medication in specific medication box and other safe boxes (Kaye,
Harrington and LaPlante, 2010). Always keep medication in safe and original container so that it
never gets affected from other germs in the room. Keep medicine in original packaging in terms
of its better effectiveness.
P.9. Explain how to dispose of run-used or unwanted medication safety
Social care supporter and professional can make aware of people from utilisation of
disposal and unwanted medication in the society in effective manner (Sarkar, López, Maselli and
Gonzales, 2011). They are must provide guideline about to regulation of safety of disposal of
run-used and unwanted medication safety so that their missuses can be reduced and its infections
also can be minimised with the help of destroying these unwanted and used medication in far
away from the society.
CONCLUSION
From the above analysis, it is concluded that there are several legal legislation is being
governed in the country in order to better management of social care settings. Moreover, it is also
concluded about the role and responsibilities of social care supporter within social care settings
in the society effectively. We have described the roughs in which medication can be effectively
managed. We have identified different form in which medication can be presented in effective
form towards the patients in the social care settings.
