Immigrants Benefits Canadian Economy and Culture
Immigrants represent all individuals that were born outside the boundaries of
Canadian territory. It is imperative to note that immigrants represent one-fifth of the people in
Canada. Approximately six million immigrants are living in Canada. It is clear that the
immigrants who have been welcomed in the nations all through the history of Canada, it has
developed into a strong as well as vibrant nation (Hiebert 15). It is imperative to note that
immigrants, as well as their descendants, have made immense contribution to Canada.
Therefore, the future success of Canada relies on the continuous flow of immigrants and their
integration into the nation (Akbari and Haider 129). British Columbia is a province in Canada
that has set the immigration policies that allow easy integration in the nations. Immigrants to
Canada are beneficial to the economy and culture since they become part of the consumer
market; they help fill the gap in the labor market and pay taxes.
For many years, British Columbia has been considered the gateway of the Pacific. It
is the third largest province in the nations by both population as well as size. The province
has recognized the significance of immigration to its general population growth along with
the economic development. Therefore, British Columbia generated an extensive provincial
nominee program that enhances the integration of immigrant into the general community
(Hiebert 18). The program divides the immigrant into two streams, which include the skilled
immigrants along with entrepreneurial immigrants.
The importance of immigrant to the Canadian economy can be emphasized by the
need of British Columbia to ease the integrating process in order to increase the number of

legal immigrants (Akbari and Haider 130; Nakhaie 388). Even though the Canadians can fill
many of the jobs, the gaps remain to exist in the labor market. Moreover, it is filling this gaps
that the immigrants comes in handy. Therefore, British Columbia and Canada as a whole
expects all the immigrants to help satisfy all the needs of the labor market, which thus
stimulates the economic growth. Immigration also aids in meeting all the specific regional
labor market requirements, in particular through the provincial nominee programs that are
input by the British Columbia (Akbari and Haider 133). In the recent projections has shown
that the labor shortages that is affecting Canada in the health, sciences, transport, skilled
trades, and equipment will persist into the future unless more and more immigrants are
integrated into the Canadian population.
When immigrants enter the Canadian borders, they become part of the labor market,
taxpayers, and the consumer market (Lo and Teixeira 631). Through this way, these
immigrants contribute to the economy as well as increasing the productive capacity of the
entire nations. There has been a robust increase in the size of the labor pool due to the
increased in the number of immigrant entering the nation. As a result, the economy of Canada
has benefitted. In the past two decades, the gross domestic product, productivity, per capita,
as well as labor forces, has increased immensely per year (Nakhaie 395). In a recent analysis,
the top five of the immigrant occupants were information system analysts and consultants,
computer programmers, software engineers, financial auditors, and administrative assistants.
Immigrants from all the categories, including refugees, have positive result across the
range of economic indicators. The participation rate of the labor forces who are aged 25 to 54
years who have been in the nation for more than 10 years are compared to the Canadian born
citizens (Brunner 28). The economic performance of immigrants increases with the total
time spent in the nation. The skilled immigration stream offers a pathway to the Canadian

occupations in British Columbia (Costigan, Sabine, and Sheena 20). In the past year, British
Columbia managed to nominate close to 6500 immigration candidates for Canadian
permanent residence. As the eligibility criteria to join the nation through the province vary
from category to category, it is required that both skills immigration, as well as express entry
candidates, must have a permanent and full-time job offer from a British Columbia employer
is common.
In the past two-three years, the British Columbia aimed to increase the immigration of
skilled immigrants by establishing the point-based systems. In this way, the point-based
system could be used to rank all the eligible candidates in terms of a score. The scores are
based on factors like education, proficiency in English, as well as work experience (Valentino
et al. 20). In fact, the type of work or offer the immigrants have been given by British
Columbia employers is also a determining factor. The highest scoring candidate in all the
categories is invited to apply for the nomination in the province through a draw from the
candidate pool. On the other hand, the Tech Pilot focuses on skilled immigration while only
considering tech occupations (Brunner 30). The Tech pilot facilitates the recruitment of
skilled foreign workers by tech organizations in the province that are facing labor shortages
as well as reduces the normal job offer prerequisite from a permanent position to an annual
job offer. The primary aspects of the Tech Pilot entails weekly tech-only draws, concierge
services offered for workers, priority processing of the applicants along with job offer
duration.
British Columbia also uses the entrepreneur streams to allow immigrants into the nation. This
is based on the strength of the entrepreneurial experience. In this stream, one can use the two-
year Regional Pilot, which is the latest innovation. It was introduced in 2017 in order to
support economic development in the regions that fall outside large urban areas of the
province (Lo and Teixeira 632). Through the program, the participating regional communities
