4THE SUSTAINABILITY HOTEL ENVIRONMENT
Topic: Luxury and green are incompatible goals for the hotel industry.
1. Introduction
In hotel industry, sustainable environment is important for the growth of business.
Most of the hotels face environmental degradation in modern times. The reason behind
environmental degradation is the growth that encountered by the hotel in this globalised
change management is huge. The energy consumption and resource exhaustion are the main
processes that delivers a setback to the environment (Dumitraș 2013). There are some
policies implemented over the environmental sustainability but the global change will be
possible if people have the right awareness of ecological condition and importance of
greenery in their life. Hotel is one of the trending business and there are some innovative
facilities are provided from hotels. The process makes sure that visitors will get the best
amenities from the hotel and the hotel gets enough competitive advantage.
In this report, sustainable environment condition along with possible greenery is the
high point of discussion. The reason behind the argument is important in the global aspect as
well.
1.1 Purpose of the report
The purpose of the topic is to evaluate the contradictory goal of luxury and green
hotel concept. There are ample amount of facilities provided by the hotel to feel warm and
inviting for guests. The use of exotic material, sophisticated lighting and other innovative
things feel luxury situation for guests, but the environmental degradation happens in such
cases (Adelina 2013). The use of renewable light, recycled material or energy reducing
processes help to make the hotel green. This contrast emphasis is the concerned purpose of
the report.

direction so that a better hotel atmosphere will persist.

luxury and green hotel factor is quite contrasting and there are some factors that support both
the goals. These are needed for the amenities of guests and they love to have those in the
hotel. On the other hand, global warming, biosphere imbalance and critical condition in the
atmosphere are the reason that needs to change the hotel align with green facilities. The
argument lies on that point.

Hwang 2015).

The shower design, servicing facility, accommodation facility and bathroom facility
all these are important and that need high technological engagement for the
development of hotel features (Ahn and Pearce 2013). The features are not included to
all the hotels. There are some hotels those uses that prospect of change infrastructure
within their space. Money investment is also considered as the factor but the inclusion
of technologies is the major change in that case.
The luxury hotels are consolidated by four aspects like design team, construction
team, engineering team and hotel management (Buijtendijk and Tschunkert 2016). All
these departments have some specific works and these collaborative and interactive
project help to facilitate guests in the hotel.
Advanced guestroom facility and improve technologies implementation in those
rooms in terms of designing and architecture is the way to engage guests with the
hotel (Ahn and Pearce 2013). The technological need for the art section and the use of
material for eye-catching treatment is the key perception that hotel authority has done
for their guests.
2.3 Green heighten provide better involvement in the luxury
Green hotel process or the green experience management is the key term that provides
a different manner of luxury but the process is useful and harmless for the environment. To
attain a green hotel, green design and creation plans should be merged at the planning phase
to the annihilation stage of the construction (Low 2012). Numerous studies have verified how
green constructions that include green hotel practices provide reimbursements. The popular
"LEED (Leading in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System" was
released in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council (Ahn and Pearce 2013). The operation
and maintenance is the key process and ratings are provided as per the indulgence of green
aspects are included. The site development, water savings, energy savings efficiency, indoor

and outdoor environmental quality, material selection all these are important aspects in that
case.
Presenting local foliage and fauna instead of exotic foreign plants increase the
authenticity and engage local community as well.
Chemical products are replaced by the natural products will help to make them more
luxurious experience. People, those are concerned with their face or body will not
hesitate to use the natural products and satisfaction rate will be higher (Ahn and
Pearce 2013).
Seasonal food is far better than expensive luxury food items. In the case of green hotel
engagement, this kind of food preferences are important and that must be included in
a hotel.
Smaller hotels, small area of operation is appropriate for green experience. Authentic
experience can be provided in such cases along with the new form of luxury (Jones,
Hillier and Comfort 2016).
Rainwater harvesting system needs to connect with washrooms and lower operating
cost will be aligned with the process (Ahn and Pearce 2013). Green ground keeping
and save paper communication process will be there in the hotel and that will reduce
the solid wastes also.
2.4 Green building practice and Rating system
The LEED Green Building Rating System 3.0 is the latest rating system that enrolled
with the proper operational process and then the certificate will be delivered (Ahn and Pearce
2013). Through the process, change in a sustainable site like reduction is civil infrastructure
or heat island effect is the natural prospects that engaged in this case. In case of energy
efficiency, solar orientation of the HVAC system implementation can be included in that case
and that makes the high rating for the hotels (Ahn and Pearce 2013). In case of material and

resources construction waste management, recycled content material, green supplies and
materials and resource saving for the future are the general aspects of getting the proper
rating in green building practice (Losanwe 2013). The proximity hotel (102,000 Sq. ft.) has
the first LEED Platinum hotel and Quaintace-Weaver Restaurants & Hotels is the
development group of this hotel. The Bardessono Hotel (55,159 sq. ft.) is the second LEED
Platinum hotel and MTM Luxury Longing is the developer of this hotel (Ahn and Pearce
2013). The process of pre-design and construction-related engagement is the key factor in
that case.
2.5 The concept of environment-friendly luxury hotels
Environment sustainability is the major reason behind the concept of the
environment-friendly luxury hotel. The amalgamation of luxury along with the green
maintenance in hotel is tough but the process of execution is the key aspect in this situation.
The systematic condition of ecosystem and maintenance of Global Baseline Criteria for the
Sustainable tourism is the major fact that incorporated in environment-friendly luxury hotels
(Leroux and Pupion 2018). In 2002, World Summit on Sustainable Development, the
repertory committee delivers some policies to the hospitality sectors. In those rules, ideas of
using innovation are strictly bounded by the green policies (Losanwe 2013). The sustainable
green environment is needed in that case and luxury hotels need to follow that or the long-
term business mentality.
2.6 Tourists’ willingness for the green hotel industry
The personality of the hotel depends on the environmental sustainability and "eco-
levelling" certification. The idea of eco-levelling is positive as the preference of customers
set the level of this. Tourist willing to use the process as some of the important criteria has
been already met by the hotel authorities and that provides enough secure opportunities for
tourists and guests (Losanwe 2013). Consuming a five-star rating and being an associate of

the luxurious hotels carries the urge for advanced facilities, which does not continually meet
the empathetic of being ecologically approachable (Moscardo 2017). The planned use
of the process and recycled waste management in the hotel highlights them as one of the
pioneers of the path-breaking hotel in the hospitality industry (Losanwe 2013). The green
housekeeping programme, robust recycling, solid waste management, avoidance of toxic
fumes, organic food purchasing, staff training for guest education and green building policy
are the significant aspects that make the tourists interested for green hotel industry.
3. Conclusion
The report can be concluded that aspect of luxury and green accumulation in hotels is
a contradictory process that can be maintained in a formative way under the supervision of
hotel authority. The study identifies an operational process for green building strategies and
future development of hotels. The examples of hotels are the result of that implementation
process, however, the development opportunities for green management is discussed in this
paper, can be initiated in quick time. So that hotels will get a detailed diagnosis over the
projects and implement the green project to help them in case of long-term sustainability in
business.
