INTRODUCTION Old age is defined as development phase or age group from 60 or above. The world population is growing old at very high pace and thus it is an important aspect to ensure the wellbeing and sustainable transition of people to elderly. For this efforts must be initiated to lower the inequalities as well as to implement integrated action plan. This essay will discuss the global efforts which are working in this direction. Discussion on sustainable and good quality ageing Though ageing usually begins after 60 years but the existing social and health inequalities contribute greatly to the ageing quality. The economic and social disparity, gender, social structure and education level affect the ways in which individuals shifts or transform during ageing (Feng and et.al., 2018). With ageing people used to observe physical, emotional as well as social changes and thus the quality of life they experience cannot be improved without support from the society, family members, government support and social groups. They must work together to develop planned strategies for making ageing smoother and less difficult. With reduced physical capabilities people not only face challenges in maintain normal routine life but due to inequality they also face extreme hardships in managing their finances, social and emotional status as well as vast pain which emerge due to distance created between their families and their growing age. Hence ageing quality can only be improved when age friendly environment is created. The young generation and children must understand the natural ageing process so that they can avoid the negative perception and stereotypes related to ageing. These joint efforts will reduce ageing based discrimination and social or emotional trauma to great extent. For coping up with the physical challenges UN decade and programs for promoting healthy ageing are working to ensure that elderly is provided long term integrated health care services without any accessibly issues or discrimination. Sustainable development of society cannot be achieved if one important and considerable segment of society is not given the care, dignity and resources it deserves. The old people must be empowered with the law and required facilities so that their autonomy and dignity can be protected. They must be given opportunities to build capacity and to take their own decision. For this ageing process must be analysed and planned with careful strategies (Partridge, Deelen and Slagboom, 2018). The reduction in inequality will itself contribute in increased autonomy and independence among older people. Thus for sustainable development of society inequalities must 3
be addressed as priority. The global initiatives taken by organisations such as United Nations are also guiding local and regional government and authorities to work together for assuring the happy and more comfortable transition from middle to older age. Global development of technological assisting devices and improve health care is significantly contributing in making ageing experience less painful and traumatic. CONCLUSION It can be concluded that for improving the ageing experience integrated and joint efforts must be taken so that healthy ageing goals can be achieved easily. 4
