INTRODUCTION
Tourism management is very important task to the manager of a tourist destination.
Currently upper management of most tourist destination mostly contacts to the DMO (destination
management organisation). Basically, a DMO always help to the management of a tourist
destination for more developing its attractiveness. This report discusses the sustainable and
responsible tourism management in the context of Indonesia. There are Indonesia is generally a
popular tourist destination which attracts thousands of tourists per year. This place is very
relaxing according to many tourists. Currently Indonesia’s tourism authority is aiming to develop
Indonesiaas an attractive, environmentally friendly, green, and neat & clean destination for
attracting lots of new visitors and tourists. So that, Indonesia’s tourism authority has contacted to
the AC travel group for the sustainable development of this destination. KP travel group is
basically popular UK based destination management organization that mainly works for
developing different strategies and techniques to a destination highly effective and attractive.

P1:Sustainable and responsible tourism
Tourism sector has been evolved immensely over the period of time. The sector has been
expanded immensely over the period of time. As per the different statistic on the growth of
business environment it is projected that tourism and travel sector is among the fastest growing
market sector across the globe. The demands have been significantly increased after the
evolution of digital technology (Camilleri, 2018). All the technological advancement has
emerged the concepts like sustainable and responsible tourism in the market sector. Since the
year 1980 the concept of sustainable tourism has been evolved. Sustainable tourism is denoted as
all such travellers all across the globe that carries an exclusive interest in travel all around the
world. These travellers make trips in every few months to explore either the new place or the old
destination they have already explored earlier. Sustainable tourist is the basic requirements
attached with the travel and tourism market sector. Different hotels and other travel and tourism
product segment immensely depend upon the suitablecustomers in order to meet up all objectives
of the business. Sustainable travellers provide effective sales turnoverthat can also improve the
growth of company in market. Sustainability is the basic need of any market sector in order to
gain effective success in a particular area of business. This provides assurance to companies and
other business organisation associated with travel and tourism sector about considering a specific

sales turnover and profitability. These customerbases play a critical role in enhancing the
potential of companies and also related to improving the brand value of such organizations and
its relevant market share. After the year 1980 society becomes more active towards sustainable
development as it provides more growth opportunities at the sustainable level.
Responsible tourism is another modern age term part of the travel and tourism sector.
Responsible tourism the term itself denote that all such customers and travellers who feels
responsible to protect and conserve the destination they explore for future are call as responsible
tourism (Sirgy and Uysal, 2016). This is the social responsibility of all the people part of the
society to put efforts in conserving various travel destinations all across the globe. Responsible
tourism is directly attached with the social responsibilities of human being in order to protect the
authentic destination across the globe so that future generation can explore and collect best
memories possible in life.
Termssustainable and responsible customers are among the modern terms involve in
travel and tourism sector. Both the terms denoted the modern needs of the market. It is the
responsibility that all tourists must ensure they will not behave any misconduct in order to
explore any specific travel destination. Sustainability allows companies involved in the travel
and tourism sector and other organisations part of the sector to achieve the growth and
profitability standards they have set for the business. Both the terms are the basic needs
associated with the sector and also denoted that organisation can entertain effective growth in
market. It is important for the future generations to protect the entire authentic travel destination
all across the globe. Both the terms also denoted in different marketing campaigns companies
and countries project in the marketing campaigns they launch.

There is a great threat on the resources of all the destinations in different countries
because there is a tremendous growth of tourism and the resources are limited in environment
and they have to be protected so that the next generation can also use them affectively. WTO has
a major role in the tourism to develop and growth in the countries but there are a lot of strategies
which were used by them so that they could encourage people for trips so that the individuals can
have fun and enjoy themselves with a safe environment.
World tourism organization, for having a sustainable tourism there are activities which
include both present and future preservation of environment, social and economic standards of

living of the local hosts in the country (Skrame and et.al., 2020).It is because there is a higher
employment rate in the country because of tourism the locals are also supporting it and WTO has
taken measures to protect the resources in the Indonesia.
The basic objectives for protecting environment, social and economic factors by
UNWTO are as follows.
 Environment
The tourists coming in the Indonesia have to know the resources which they are not suppose
to misuse and make the most from alternatives for the locals to enjoy tat resource. Tourists are
there for fun and enjoyment which is why there aim is not suppose to make the environment of
the place reduce but just enjoy and leave the country as it is.
 Social
The tourists must respect the tradition and culture of the local that they are travelling to is
one of the objectives which UNWTO has for social factor.There is a well-maintained heritage
and tradition in the Indonesia.This is going to make the environment of the locals healthy and
comfort leaving the tourists with safety and healthy travelling.
 Economic
UNWTO main objective is to make the poverty in the country reduce and make the lifestyle
of the people better and create more opportunities in the country as well. There have to be equal
benefits for everyone in the Indonesia and sustainable economic activities which are taking place
so that there would be a development in the future because of tourism.
Application of concept and meaning as per leading organization
There are companies which have taken measures to prevent socio culture tradition in the
country so that there are the best outcomes which are going to be present. The government of
Indonesia also wants more opportunities for the population which is why the tourism is also
being promoted and supposed by them as well (Hardeman, Font and Nawijn, 2017). There are
nongovernmental organizations in the country as well who take part in hospitality industry which
can remove poverty in the country. It is since 21st century there is an increase in NGO’s which
are working in the market for the benefit and safety of the people. There are NGO’s which are in
the market for different purpose but they make the financial and non-financial benefits are being
taken by the peopleof the Indonesia.There are a lot of measures which have been taken so that

there is a sustainable tourism in the country so that there is going to be a development in the
country for the future which is very important in the world today.

P3: Purpose and principle of tourism development
It is the purpose of tourism development for a sustainable is to make sure that there is
safety and healthy hosting countries in which tourism is taking place and the resources in the
country must be easily available.Tourism is one of the most important economic factors for
countries in the world because they not just get in the right revenue which is required for
development but also get in employment for the people (Zhang and Chan, 2020).It is because of
this importance that there are a lot of principles which need to be followed so that tourism
management authority of Indonesia can be well maintained.
 Reduce wastage
To satisfy the personal need the tourists must not over use the resources of another country
which is a waste. This is damage in the Indonesia and if this factor continues then the tourism is
not going to be supported by the destination for a long run which is why this principle must be
followed by the tourists as well.
 Involvement of local communities
The locals have to accept the tourists which are coming in the country only then the tourism
factor is going to increase in the Indonesia. The locals have to be considered when there is a
destination in the area. Tourists get attracted to culture and tradition very quickly and for that
factor the locals will have to be considered.
 Use of resources sustainably
There has to be a use of available resources by tourist and residents of the local in the
Indonesia so that resources can be saved.The resources are limited and if they are not used
wisely then there is going to be a loss because it takes million of years for the resources to be
formed again.
 To support the local economy
There are a lot of local brands which get promoted because of tourism in the country and
opportunities are created for a better lifestyle (Han, Lee and Kim, 2018). Nature resources and
environment cost have to be considered while planning tourism management.

 Consult the stakeholders and public
There are a lot of issues and problems which can rise and that is not good for the reputation
of a destination therefore consulting the local and stakeholders is a very essential principle which
must be followed.
Using these principles can be very helpful for the organization to be able to reduce the
negative or adverse effect on the Indonesia. These principles are also going to make the safety
and security of the resources, population and the tourist in the Indonesia is able to be maintained.
P4: Process of tourism development and planning
There are various approaches available to the management authority of Indonesia which
can easily develop and plan this existing tourist destination. Of course, upper management of this
destination has highly succeeded in development and planning, but it needs to more develop this
destination to attract lots of new visitors and tourists.There are KP travel group (DMO) should
suggest some appropriate approaches to tourism authority or upper management of Indonesia to
make specific plan to more develop this destination. First, management authority of this
destination is required to create a specific plan for sustainable development. While making or
creating plan, existing management should mention those all resources in this plan which it will
be used during conducting different development strategies (Sheldon and Daniele,2017). On the
other side, tourism management authority should be listed most its most talented and skilled
employees in this plan who will put their great efforts in the destination development process.
The management should be maintained an effectiveness in the development plan while
creating this plan. It is very necessary to this destination’s management to consider these all
factors, because at the end, this destination management will be succeeded in sustainable
development of Indonesia. Basically, when this destination will be fully developed, then it can
attract thousands of new visitors and people towards itself, and when many people will visit on
this destination, then this destination can grow financially as well. This is the main reason that,
sustainable growth and development are very necessary for each and every destination (Kim and
Filimonau,2017).There are some key approaches or methods of sustainable development has
been discussed below which can support to management authority of Indonesia for effectively
developing this destination.
Safe and secure environment:This is first approach of destination’s sustainable development.
According to this approach, upper management of Indonesiadestination should always take

different actions towards making this destination completely safe and secure. Basically, people
or tourists always like to visit on such destinations which are safe and secure to them. According
to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, safety and security are key needs of humans, in which a person
mostly like to stay on that place that can’t negatively affect to its body. This is the main reason
that, upper management of Indonesia tourism need follow the concept of this approach for the
sustainable development of this place.
Approaches of tourism development
Proper accommodation approach: Most tourists and people give higher priority to that
destination where proper accommodation facility is easily available (Melissenand et.al., 2016).
So that, management of authority should be considered this approach of sustainable approach as
well.According to this approach, existing tourism authority of Indonesia need to provide an
excellent accommodation facility to different people or tourists who has visited in this
destination. By providing this service, the management will be able to make sustainable
development of this tourism place.
Phycological approach:This is the next most important approach of sustainable development.
According to this approach, a person always visits or stay on that destination, where easily
access things which can fulfil its physiological needs. There are physiological needs are
generally prime needs of people, like; food, drinkable water, clean air, clothes etc. This is the
main reason that, existing tourism management authority of Indonesia should easily provide
those all things to tourists and people in this destination which are comes under their
physiological needs.
Justification
These all are some key approaches of sustainable development of a tourist destination
which helps in tourism planning and development for successfully gaining sustainable objectives
or goals and measuring sustainable performance. By adopting and implementing these all
approaches, the tourism management authority of Indonesia will be able attract many of new
tourists and visitors on this destination. However, while developing this destination, existing
management of this destination can face different challenges and problems as well. In this
situation, it should create a pre-plan for systematically dealing with these all problems and
challenges while sustainable development process of this destination. In these problems, there
are problem or challenge which is based on fund is the toughest problem to this destination’s

upper management. Basically, Indonesia’s tourism authority is a governing body, so that many
times existing government not able to provide appropriate fund to destination’s development due
to many political reasons (Heand et.al., 2018). In this situation, not access the fund is big
problem or challenge to upper management of a destination. This is the main reason that, it needs
to create a pre-plan for simply dealing with this type of problems in the future.

P5: Impacts of tourism activity
A tourism attraction and destination always highly affect to different are existing factors,
like; social, environmental, cultural and economic etc. On the other side, these all factors are
also equality affect to the attractiveness and effectiveness of a destination. In this situation,
existing management authority of a destination always required to make a specific plan for
properly dealing with the impacts of these factors. There are impacts of tourism activity on these
all factors has been discussed below;
Social:There are Indonesia’s attractiveness and effectiveness mostly positively affect to the
social factors of existing country. On the other side, there are social factors of this destination are
very favourable for different people who are planning to visit this place, because many of people
within Indonesia are completely literate, and they like to support tourists who come from various
locations of the world. local people within Indonesia not charges high prices from tourists and
visitors for put their positive impression on them. That’s why currently many people and tourists
like to visit on this place.
Environmental:Environmental factor puts great impact on the tourism activity of Indonesia.
Basically, top-level management authority of this destination plans for make Indonesia full green
and environmentallyfriendly (Goodwin, 2016). In this situation, management should plant
different new trees, flowers, etc, for making this place greener. Of course, this destination
already has huge green beauty and considered as the very excellent destination of tourism. So
that, it is necessary to management for always maintaining green environment in this destination
for always attracting lots of tourists.
Cultural:There are tourism activity of Indonesia plays an excellent role in positively affecting to
people’s cultural as well. For example; there are thousands of people visit in this destination who
come from different countries, and we know that every country has its own specific culture

(Zagonari,2019). In this situation, when many of tourists or people visits in this place, then
Indonesia become the hub of cultural exchange.
Economic:Tourism activity of Indonesia affects economic aspect of existing country as well.
Basically, when many of people visits on a destination, then that destination can automatically
grow economically. This is the main reason that, Indonesia’s tourism authority mostly puts its
huge efforts to more develop this destination for attracting many of new tourists and people here.
P6: Principles of sustainability implemented by tourism business/attraction
There are Indonesia’s management authority should be implemented many of
sustainability principles for meeting requirements and expectations of stakeholder (Reinemanand
Ardoin,2018).
Currently many of principles has been already implemented this destination’s
management authority as well. Suppose, existing management of this place always tries to make
this place neat and clean in the term of sustainable development of this place, so that this a kye
principle here in the development of destination. The main motive behind using this principle of
sustainable development is to increase the number or tourist on this destination in upcoming time
in the comparison of existing time.
Currently, tourists, visitors, local people and government, destination management
organisation (DMO) etc. are key stakeholders of this destination of tourism. In this situation,
upper management of this tourism place (Indonesia) need to maintain such environment here that
can provide the best experience to all stakeholders, because these stakeholders contribute in
developing sustainable practices of tourism for minimizing the adverse influences of Indonesian
destination.
In the series of sustainable development principles, maintain safety and security is
another key principle that motivates to different people and tourists for visiting and staying on
this destination. Basically, every person is always like to take care about its health, its body, its
family and close ones. So that, every person like to visit only this that place or destination which
is completely safe and secure, and where local government of Indonesia properly fulfil ups all
safety and security measures.When we deeply analyse the Indonesia, then we got that, this place
is fully favourable for each tourist or person, and that’s why many of people personally like this
destination to visit and stay.

Stakeholders’ engagement and partnerships are very important and valuable in achieving
sustainable objectives of Indonesian tourism destination. Effective relationship is appropriate
approach for stakeholders’ engagement and partnerships. According to this approach, the
management of destination need to maintain effective relationship with its various stakeholders
to achieve sustainable objectives on time.

P7: Evaluation of ‘how sustainability is being developed and managed’
Sustainability always plays an excellent role in the all over growth of a destination, so
that this can positively affect to the Indonesia as well (Molina-Azorín and Font,2016). Currently,
management authority of this destination wants to use different strategies and tactics for the
sustainable development of this place. Currently management authority of all destination in all
around the world are also taking different steps towards sustainable development and
management of their respective destination. The main mission behind sustainable development
and management of a destination is to make this place very attractive and effective. Currently
economy of many countries are completely depended on their respective tourist destination. For
example; Switzerland’s tourism sector gives the great contribution in this country’s GDP (Gross
Domestic Product). On the other side, Indonesiatourism sector is also able to give great
contribution in own economic growth.
Success or failure of sustainable management
Currently upper management authority of this destination is completely aware about the
implications of sustainability in the terms of developing and managing this destination. It mostly
creates different specific plans also to perfectly achieve the success in sustainable development
and management of this destination (Lv, 2018). It is very important activities to management of
this destination, otherwise it will be failure in developing and managing this destination in the
effective manner.
Justified recommendations and solutions to improve sustainable development and
management
Currently existing management should take some specific and productive suggestion
from the KP travel group (a DMO) for the sustainable development of this place. Basically, this
destination management organisation will provide some effective strategies and techniques to
tourism authority of Indonesia which can be contributed in the sustainable development and

management of this destination. The management of existing management have to consider
different approaches of sustainable development also to gain very appropriate success and
outcomes.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above findings, it can be concluded that there are various strategies and
ways available to management authority of Indonesiawhich can support it for effectively
developing this destination. Sustainable development of this destination is very necessary for this
destination to influence people within all around the world to make a tour plan to visit on this
destination.Currently upper management within most tourist destinations focuses on more and
more developing their tourist destination, because it is necessary to raise the number of visitors
on that destination (Cannas,Argiolasand Cabiddu,2019). Basically, tourism sector of a country,
like Indonesia gives great contribution in its country’s all over growth, this is the main reason
that there is sustainable development of a destination. By suing different sustainable
development approaches, tourism authority of Indonesia will be able to make this destination
more attractive and effective, and at the end this destination will be able attract thousands of
people to visit this tourist destination.
