INTRODUCTION
Jumbo water tower has been determined as old building which supplied water to whole town
of Colosseum. Nowadays, it was unused for many years so the owner is decided to reuse, convert
along with extent it for productive purpose (Blankenship, 2018). They hired a designer to
reconstruct it in sustainable manner. As a designer, first time I saw Jumbo I was reminded of my
visit to Italy where I visited the colosseum in Rome. This building had a similar impact with its
extraordinary location and the design is impressive. The goal is to retain the grade 2 heritage
building with the view or modernising the tower interior. This will include apartments, offices
and a visitors’ centre. The top floor will be open to the public as a tourist attraction, giving them
the opportunity to take the view from the top of Jumbo.
The aim of the project is to make a plan for construction which focus on sustainability
Social, economic and environmental growth. further is covers the effective modern design of
building which also promote sustainability.
MAINBODY
The survey of Jumbo water tower building is conducted in which designer determines
various facts such as the jumbo water tower found in the center of Colchester was located in a
residential area (Green, 2021). Its needs to the creation of a well-organized plan and Hoardings,
protective panels as per the law exact under the highways act 1980. The closed boarded fences
hoardings must be erected prior to the commencement of building operations.
Outline plan
The future plans will integrate the new building into the existing structure of Jumbo. The current
design will be preserved to retain Colchester’s history. In order to comply with environmental
needs, gas will not be considered for the project. The services to the building will be provided
through renewable technologies (Harris and Chang, 2018). The building will be 100% electric.
Small scale turbines will be mounted to each corner of the upper balcony, with PV on the roof to
the southern and eastern elevations, this will make sure that the most solar gains are achieved,
and most electricity generated.
Lighting within the building will be LED as these require less power to run.

Recently I got a new information after my own revision and research according to the
architect’s journal 18-07-2022. (M.Fulcher,AJ.),(Architects’ Journal, 18-07-2022). I was very
happy when I saw this information Because in my opinion it is right, to do this project and
maintain in same time the monument a life (Hartley, Ibrus and Ojamaa, 2020). As per this article
the people of this locality denied the planning application for restoration of the water tower
jumbo of Colchester but now after Final round between participants like Nissens Richards,
Burell Foley Fisher and Purcell. This was elicitation, basically a competition, The Purcell, they
win this competition to change the Jumbo situation in three elements: restore; extend; end
convert.
In my outline plan I prefer all the structure to incorporate into the new building according to the
heritage historic buildings great 2 we need preserved design and all the aspect historical. It has
been determined that the plan must be approved by the local authority, according to the health
and safety Work Act 74 and according CDM 2015 while starting the construction in order to
secure the site (Hubregtse, 2020). For construction and renovation, I need to make site
management plan and provide facility for workers who are working in this site. Further, it is

needed to be fixed the Heras fence and hoardings with lights visible for the night-time along with
keep the public separate and safe in order to prevent people from accidents, avoid noise and dust.
First I need to make a plan for services like sewers and drainage storm water further we install
the electric system connection in order to exclude the gas system because it's more difficult and
expensive to implement (Jumbo and Moghaddass, 2022). The building developer want to be a
sustainable building for that this system is effective and simpler.
In next stage, I make a plan for infrastructure and groundworks for this the pylons drilled
15m deep under the ground for making the foundation stronger so the heavy building staying
stable and safe. The design of the groundwork and base of building is shown below-
In the above picture present the design of groundwork with different colors which helps to
protect residents against dust, noise and accidents. The elements which is used in construction
are electric panels, pylons and others. These panels provide lights, energy that facilitate visibility

at night along with that the we can use this panels to display advertisements that will visibly put
the name of the company which construct this site. In above picture and design, the blue
rectangles and squares on the plan represent area or rooms for office, reception area, cafeteria,
toilets, smoking area and other facilities for workers. the red cross is an office for possible
meeting and intervention. protection for trees is symbolized with yellow (Kalić, Dožić and
Babić, 2022). The orange X represents the parking area where the stable fixed crane and other
vehicles will park which used for construction. The orange arrows represent the drainage storm,
and the red arrows sewers. The hexagon represents the manhole channel, black dots are
electricity and the green line is internet and fiber optics.

Materials are used for Jumbo water tower
In order to rebuild the Jumbo water tower, the material will use like Concrete, Steel, Metal
Profile, Glass, Cement, Aluminium in interiors, Solar panels, isolation foam, thermal insulation,
acoustic membranes, waterproof membranes, point of view off sustainability and many other
materials. I want to develop a system of ventilation like natural ventilations is a system which
was in a passive house (Kingwell, 2021). It is a similar principle with the hot air which come
from the bottom and go through the top so for that open the window and then create the natural
ventilation. I hope they agree with this project and I want to make a new roof the solar panels.
For the sustainability of this building regardless of the life of the construction, the materials are
recyclable 100% Metal Steel Glass, aluminum, practically the same materials are used as for
skyscrapers (Lasrado, 2018).

view in the image above represents the lifting plan of the long material. Along with the materials
that will be used for the interior structure is the materials which are used to block the tower to
scratch clouds namely profiled steel metal (Sangiorgio, 2022). Further, it mounted with the help
of other machines that will be brought into the inner courtyard of the water tower jumbo.

Good neighbourhood plan
The people of Colchester are happy for the new project of Jumbo water tower as it converts
into new modern building. The developer preserves the history of building that is or was part of
their lives and will of course remain if the local authorities consider this project.
As for the project and initiation of the work by considering the fact that not to disturb the
neighbors, it will be decided that only at certain hours to start the operations of lifting or delivery
of materials, etc. for example, in the morning to start working after 8 00 o'clock (Sha, Amdahl
and Dørum, 2019).
Regarding parking we have acceptable space for parking
11

For the people, there is space for their personal vehicles and they can travel from the
available space easily. For the betterment and safe of people, developer make boundries for their
construction site in whgich they park their crane and other machines which will reduce the
posibilties of accidents. It has been determine that it is a conservative area and there is less space
to travel two vehicles at same time and parking.
Access to the parking problem for neighbour

This is the second option for access, but the distance is only three metres wide. The
material transportation finds difficulties to entre it is possible only if we can fix the tower crane
and make a plan for a lifting operation from the main road. Undoubtedly, I need to selected
different time to delivery materials as in day timing there is huge rush at the town and it's very
difficult to make the lifting operation.

Economic
There will be a maintenance cost for any addition to jumbo, this could be offset as a positive
as it will create jobs for the local area, the need for cleaners, general maintenance and visitor
centre staff.
The creation of the jobs will allow for a small contribution to the local economy through
employment of local people and financial investment to the area (Sreenath, Sudhakar and Yusop,
2020).
Existing jumbo will be restored to its original state. In this construction site the developer
use Renewable energies, heating type electric storage, heat pumps with air source along with

Solarium is used during generation for sustainable working. Probably the building behind the
jumbo near the car parking lot will be converted into storage for turbine and pv generation.
Environmental
With extra material in place and more people, more waste will be produced. The plan
must include renewable energy options to offset any additional air pollution from flues or
contamination from rubbish and wastewater.
With the height of Jumbo, solar panels will be beneficial and could provide a large
amount of clean energy to the building.
With removal of green areas, additions such as bird boxes and the introduction of
additional plants will be made. This will provide pleasant views as well as maintaining
habitat.
At present the building creates a public danger if it is not maintained. It could collapse
due to advanced degeneration
Introduction of modern technologies such as air source heat pumps, solar panels or small-
scale wind turbines with the aim to create a sustainable building and reduce CO2.

Biodiversity assessment
According to the results of the surveys, there were no protected species present. As part of the
renovation, bat boxes will be built on the top floors as good practice. Additional trees and
flowers were planted around the structure to support wildlife while also providing a pleasant
environment. Green areas are proven to be useful to society because they increase wellness.
Biodiversity refers to the diversity of life on Earth, including all habitats, species, and genes.
Biodiversity is the consequence of billions of years of continuous evolution, molded mostly by
natural processes. But in modern times, human intervention leads to pollution and resource
exploitation (Yildiz. and Møller, 2021).
The diversity of species on our planet (plants, animals, and microbes) is immense: over 1.75
million species have been recognized to date, with insects being the most diverse. However,
experts think that there are up to 13 million different species of living creatures, and it is quite
possible that the planet has had over 300 million species.
Biodiversity also refers to genetic variability within each species (plant kinds, animal breeds),
including the distinctiveness of each individual's chromosomes, genes, and DNA. Biodiversity
also refers to the diversity of habitats, which can range from deserts to forests to mountains and
lakes. Each ecosystem is made up of living beings and geological materials that are constantly
interacting.
In general, biodiversity is split into plant and animal biodiversity. In the first scenario, plants
and vegetation are living entities that rely primarily on the process of photosynthesis of sunlight
to multiply. Animal biodiversity encompasses terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial species.

By doing this, as well as being compliant, there is a deterrent to theft and anti-social
behavior. The environment surrounding the site will be protected, no damage to trees in
the area or generation of excessive dust and contamination. Protection for trees is

CONCLUSION
It has been concluded that from the above presented information that the preservation,
conversion and commissioning of the Jumbo water tower combined with offices, cafe,
apartments, etc is an economic advantage for Colchester. From the cause of legislation of
planning permissive alternative, the structure can be converted, or restructured only with the
consent of public or simply something touristic, obtained, and the Demolition. While making a
plan for reconstruction, the designer must be think about the safety and betterment of public
along with environment. They must use effective and environment friendly elements such as
solar panels for electricity and other metal which helps to build sustainable building. By making
