INTRODUCTION
The bath half-marathon is a road running half-marathon held on the second or third
Sunday in March at bath, England and around 30000 people run. The 40th anniversary will be
held on 16th October 2022. They utilize a huge amount of water on the run day and plastic
bottles, by this there is wastage of water and plastic so for these they can ise alternative option
such as compostable cups and tap water for refilling their own bottles (Young, and Reeves.,
2020). This report will outline the approaches which helps in cut down the use of water and
wastage. This report highlights the concept of sustainable business operation with new ways and
business models of operation and impact of changes in business practices on the environment of
business organization. This report will outline the particular area like water use, transport,
reducing plastic, waste, pollution etc. with their impact on organization and making better.
Moreover, this report will critical evaluate business practices related to the organization. At last,
it also involves some recommendation such as outcomes, targets and Key Performance Indicator
etc.

Understanding sustainable business operations
Sustainable business operation is a way of evaluating that a business can maintain current
practices without setting future resources at risk. Sustainable operation strategies is related to the
offer superior feedbacks to the ongoing alteration of social, environmental and economic
condition (Lozano., 2018). A sustainable business attracts new investors, new customer and new
talents, and they positively affect society. It is an efforts and plans that an organization puts
remain going concern. These strategies involve employee development, systematic
improvements, innovation and corporate governance. Bath half-marathon is had great
sustainability because in 2022 they celebrate 40th anniversary. This event is organized on second
Sunday of march, and they focus on zero waste to landfill and this event is plastic free they
replace plastic bottles by compostable cups and tap water. Bath half-marathon is organized by
running high events Ltd, have made a plastic free pledge with Bath & North East council and
surfers against sewage.
In the last year they encourage participants to come with their own water bottle for the
event and refilling have be provided so participants can easily refill their bottle (by the tap

water), because if they haver single use plastic bottles then it creates huge plastic wastage every
year. By this they can create reuse system and have a limited numbers of bottles available to buy
on the race day at merchandise tent. In the race, they also provide compostable cups to drink
water insist of traditional plastic water bottled because plastic bottles not only waste huge
amount of plastic but also waste water (Barbieri, and Santos., 2020). So give instruction or
advice that if participants don't want to drink water from the cup then they bring their own water
bottled. Used compostable cups will collected and composed by the local contractor and
transform in usable compost. Bath half-marathon is a big race starting and completing in bath
city centre and have proper medical and first aid services. They also give timing chip to record
their race time, so they focused on using reusable plastic chip and these chips are collected and
remove at the finish line of the race by the team volunteers, so they can use again and again.
There are many ways to make operation more sustainable such as creating an action plan
firstly identify the area of concern or which give negative impact on organization that can be
wasting of water and huge use of plastic than take corrective action and use alternative option to
fix it (Smith, and Brisman., 2021). Divert waste also make more sustainable organization for
example, by the use of compostable cups organization can divert waste so it gives positive
impact on the business operation. There are many sustainable practices such as save energy, use
reusable alternative, recycle and reuse etc. Sustainable business means operating in different way
that recognized that resources are valuable and limited. A sustainability business model means
business model which create, captures and delivers value to stakeholders without affecting the
economic, social capital and natural things. For successful working business model there are four
key elements such as commercially profitable, succeed in the future, use resources that can be
utilized for long term, and give back. By using compostable cups and tap water organization save
environment and recycle plastic bath half-marathon have good impact on this event. By the new
sustainability model they enhance the quality of lives, preserves natural resources and safeguard
ecosystem for future or coming generation. Sustainability is power to develop and exist without
harm natural resources. Bath half-marathon is had good sustainability because they focused on
protecting natural environment by different methods (Spoz., 2021). There are many principles of
sustainable business operation such as improve liveability, support environment system, create
opportunities for economic growth etc. Bath half-marathon have good sustainable business

operation that is event as they are more focused on protecting resources by minimizing water
wastage and reduce use of plastic.

Bath half marathon organization utilizes significant amount of water on run day. Fresh
Water is a limited resource and due to droughts happening it becomes very difficult to get supply
of fresh water. Every individual need water to live and it is very important for every single
individual to conserve water .conservation of water can be defined as using water wisely and in a
limited way without any wastage. Also it keeps the water fresh and healthy to drink and protect
the environment too. Conservation of water means conservation of energy and it also involves
abstaining from water pollution.as we have studied that the organization called Bath half
marathon uses water supply in high amount and due to this they have to face many issues and
complications related to water conservation (Capodaglio, 2021). Water scarcity is one of the
major issue faced by the world in the current scenarios.so as to address this problem one should
understand the approaches of saving and conserve water.so as to conserve the water supply and
reduce the wastage of water the bath half marathon organization can adopt few approaches for
solving this issue and some of the approaches are as follows:
Grey water recycling
Grey water recycling method is a process in which used and waste water is used from washing
machines , sinks , showers , kitchen sinks and many more which can be further recycled in the
toilets and for watering plants or cleaning the equipment’s in the Bath half marathon
organization.it is present in excess volume. This has been observed by the environmentalist that
by using this method 70% of the usage of domestic water is reduced.
Water metering
Another method which can be adopt by the bath half marathon organization of saving water and
reducing wastage is to install water metering and analysing how much water is used in the

shortage of water (Niero, and Rivera, 2018). They also waste water on regular basis and do not
have a practice of saving water and conservation of water as well.to identify the concern of

same. Some of the practices to conserve the water are as follows:
Go low-flow

not waste the water.it will be also beneficial for the green team effort to take some initiatives by
the employee for saving and conservation of water.one more step the organization can take for
reducing the wastage of water is they can install a bell in the premises which rang whenever
there is leakage of water and the responsibility of this should be given to the employees(White,
2019).

Recommendation
For saving water organization can encourage their staff members to contribute in water
saving ideas. Establish a line for use of water and set targets for save water and give individual a
reason to save water. As bath half-marathon use water taps for refill participants water bottles so
organization should use efficient taps with restrict flow to use less water and regularly fix or
replace tabs if they are leaking. Make proper management of dustbin because many participants
use compostable cups, so they can easily through cups on dustbin. In energy station staff provide
energy drinks to participants in compostable things so it reduces use of plastic so volunteers
should focus in this. Stop using single use plastics like water bottles, cups, take-out container,
plastic bag and any other item of plastic which cannot use again. As organization use some
amount of plastic as they offer to the participants, so they should use some alternative plastic or
which can be reused. The key performance indicators is used to analyse the performance of the
organization in comparison with the other organization. There are basic three purpose of key
performance indicators to control, to report and to improve.
The KPI used for control will help in controlling the water wastage system at different
levels like the water usage is not exceeding the available resources. A KPI used for reporting
will help in report the issues of water wastage faced by the Bath Half Marathon organization
(Themelis, Spandonidis, and Giordamlis, 2019). And the last one is to improve this KPI is used
in improving the issue of wastage of water faced by the organization and will provide some
alternatives for the current situation.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that water is life for every human being on the
planet. Water is essential to live and it’s also helps in saving the energy as well. Every individual
of this planet is responsible for the wastage of water so in order to save water and reduce the
wastage of the water there are many alternative and approaches which are described in the
report. For saving water every member of the organization should take some initiative for saving
water. For identifying the concern of water conservation all the alternatives have been discussed
well and recommendations that should be adopt by the organization for saving water is also
explained in the report.
