Abstract
This research work is a detailed analysis of sustainable development goals. The major
purpose of the paper is to investigate and analyse the development of sustainable goals
initiatives. Developing sustainable goals considering organizational objective has now been
an utmost requirement. Thus, to learn how business develops its sustainable goals today,
Tesco Ltd has been considered in the analysis. Research aims to investigate and identify the
sustainable development goals set by supermarket organization like TESCO in UK. Study
aims to investigate the importance of sustainable development goals for the future businesses.
To learn about the sustainable development goals, primary data was required; thereby, study
included quantitative data collection method. Twelve close –ended questions have been
developed to help audience give the responses. In order to perform the survey, almost 50
individuals of the organization Tesco were selected. Findings indicate that by understanding
the needs of developing sustainable development goals, Tesco has started implementing
sustainable goals that cover a wide geographical and demographical areas but maintaining a
stable economy is a barrier to sustainable development goals.

goals helped me to gain knowledge in different field of sustainability in business. However, I

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.0 Introduction
It has been identified that development of sustainable goals have become a significant
global concern fuelled by corporates and supermarket across the globe. Besides the
successful implementation of business, sustainability of the environment is highly significant
business requirement as business can only run effectively when it has environmental support.
Considering the rapid degradation of the environment, businesses today find an urgent need
for the world to seek a more sustainable path. Moreover, according to the Agenda for
Sustainable Development, sustainable development goals must provide a clear framework for
the collective actions to protect the future. It is worth stating that businesses have enormous
role to play and they are often being called upon by government as well as citizen to take
part. The large corporate bodies like the supermarkets are in the rush of developing suitable
sustainable goals for the coming future. So, to analyse the issue, this study considers the
operation of TESCO, UK and its sustainable development goals initiatives. The fundamental
purpose of this study is to investigate and analyse the development of sustainable goals
initiatives taken by the supermarket giant TESCO in UK.
1.1 Background to research
In the context of sustainable development, Pätäri et al. (2016) mentioned that a
commitment to sustainable development could be compatible with enduring commercial
success. This means that there is a direct relationship between firm’s performance and
involvement in the sustainable practices. The later can positively influence organization’s
performance. So, playing a positive role in the society need not to be for the financial
outcomes (Payne and Raiborn 2001). Organizations that usually make a solid or genuine
