Introduction:
In the contemporary times, public, along with engineers and scientists are showing immense
concern towards major environmental issue such as depletion of ozone layers, increasing rate of
global warming and its relationship with the usage of non-renewable resources. Meier et al. (2015)
observed that the products, used for daily life are causing immense threat in the way of maintaining
environmental sustainability. Thus, in order to protect the environment, the government is imposing
certain rules and regulations, which are acting as a driving force behind service and manufacturing
industries to modify their manufacturing method and the way of using raw material (Chau et al.
2015). The aim this paper is to evaluate the method and tool for comparing the impact of human
activities on the environment. In this paper, the product life cycle analysis of domestic coffee
machines will be presented.
The definition of goal and scope of the PLCA:
In-depth assessment of the environmental impact of individual products or services play a
major role in the way of creating and implementing the foundations, based on which Eco-Advantage
can be acquired by lowering the negative impact of business from the environment. As discussed by
Røyne et al. (2016) this is the way of sourcing the environmental impact in the entire life cycle of a
product. PLCA (Product Life Cycle Assessment) is one of the greatest tools, which the companies can
use in the way of assessing the environmental impact. With the assistance of this tool, the companies
can learn about various sustainability issues, which can range from extraction of raw material to its
disposal.
PLCA is defined as the process of making factual analysis of the entire life cycle of a product
and thereby measure its sustainability. Ren et al. (2015) put stress on the fact that the goal and scope
definition of PLCA ensures the fact that the life cycle assessment tool is working consistently in the
way of understanding the environmental impact of a product. It is important to note in this context
that the fundamental goal of product life cycle assessment is evaluate the degree of sustainability of
the products along with its packaging and user related factors. The basic purpose of product life cycle
