INTRODUCTION
Sustainability refers to the own needs without comprising the ability of future generation to meet
their own needs (Ali, Rasoolimanesh and Cobanoglu,2020). Marriott international is diversified
company that manage Hotels and related lodging facilities, founded by J. Willard Marriott in
1927 and headquarter in Maryland. This report evaluate about an issue related to sustainability
and its applications within hospitality and tourism sector. Having an overview of sustainability
hospitality and tourism development with both national and internationally with appropriate
policy and strategy framework. Also, describes about the concepts of Sustainable good practice
within tourism and hospitality industry (costal, rural and urban areas) and within transport sector.
Sustainability principle and development
Definition of Sustainability-
Sustainability is a systemic concept, relating to the continuity of economic, social, institutional
and environmental aspects of human being (Baum,2018). Sustainability development is
development that meets needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their owns needs.
Principle of Sustainability-
Social sustainability : It aims to preserve social capital by investing and creating services that
constitute the framework of society. It means to preserve future generation and to acknowledge
that have an impact on others. In Marriott hotel social sustainability includes employment fair
labour practices, living conditions, health and safety, having equity, work life balance and
empowerment.
Economic sustainability : It aims to maintain capital intact. It refers to efficient use of assets to
maintain company profitability overtime. Sustainable hotel development generates opportunity
for Marriott in exciting new market and supports economic developing in emerging economics
by boosting local tourism, creating new jobs and supporting local businesses.
Environmental sustainability : Aims to improve human welfare through the protection of natural
capital. In hotel water management is one of most often looked aspects of sustainability it
particularly have maintaining as swimming pools. Recycling cutlery with single use recyclables
is must and most establishment are actively supplying guestrooms with multi suse shampoo
bottles.

Tourism impact-
Economic impact : The economic impact of local and regional economics from hotel
development is separated categories;
Direct impact- It included all the projected revenues that will be generated from the consumers at
hotel and it also include total payroll pay out to employee hired in Marriott as well as pay roll out
to temporary construction worker who work at hotel.
Fiscal impact- Taxes include all sales taxes collected in association with hotel generated
revenues, as well all payroll taxes related collected from full time hotel employees and
temporary construction workers.
Indirect impact- It includes all jobs and income generated by businesses that supply goods and
service to the Marriott hotel. Indirectly benefits from development of hotels including suppliers
of room related goods and telecommunications, food and beverage, other hotel related vendors.
Environmental impact : Transitioning from single use bottles to pump containers made from
recycle and reusable plastic can save a half billion tiny bottles annually. The plan for large size
shower container is largest series of greener moves the company has taken. wastage of foods in
hotels have been donated to charity or poor people or some other worker who are working in the
hotel as temporary workers.
Demand and Supply issues-
Tourism demand can be defined in various ways, depending on the economic, psychological,
geographic and political. Tourism opportunities represent a mix of attractions and for destination
to be successful, it is important to deliver a quality products and experience. There is no doubt
that marketing and promotion aim to increase demand thereby becoming the main source of
rising demand (De Lange and Dodds,2017). Demand is also linked to the reasons why people
engaged in tourism related activities.
Tourism supply is provision of key elements in tourism industry by the most governments and
destinations. Tourism reception services includes travel agencies, tourist offices and visitor
managers, from other services is the way mobile population who visit destination areas consume
a tourism products. Having a suited supply chain because the products, service or expectations
that is consumed is assembled and comprises a wide range or suppliers.

The idea of hospitality is what lies in the centre of tourism industry. The term hospitality has
derived from French word 'Hospice' which means 'To take care of travellers'. In old times locals
used to travel rest on kitchen floors or others extra spaces during the journey. An ancient
civilizations travelled greatly long in the search of food and shelter. Over the period of time, the
purpose have been changed. The tourism industry is a collage of various services like food
lodging and travel agencies etc, but in old times land and water were the only means of
transportations. In present day tourism industry is the product of evolution in hospitality sectors,
innovations in transportations, advancements in communications technology etc.
Sustainable Tourism Development-
Costal Tourism Development:
In many areas, massive new tourist development have been built including airports, resorts and
golf course (Hjalager,2018). Over development for tourism has the same problem as other
coastal development. Some resorts empty their swage and other waste directly into water
surrounding sensitive marine habits. Tourism can also add consumption of seafood in an area,
putting pressure on local fish populations and sometimes contributing to overfishing. Collection
of shells, corals and other marine either by individuals tourists or local people who can sell the
souvenirs to tourists also has a detrimental effect on the local environment.
Rural Tourism Development:
The development of tourist in rural area, but a problem is now make rural tourism a possible
engine for development (Jones,Hillier and Comfort,2017). As with any export activity, tourism is
source of income and employment. Some rural tourism policy must be then implemented
protecting and providing amenities for potential areas of attraction, ensuring solvable demand,
training people in rural development.
Urban Tourism Development:
A tourism activity which takes places in urban space with its inherent attributes characterized by
non agriculture based on economy such as administration, manufacturing, trade and services and
by points of transport. Urban tourism can represent a driving force in the development of many
cities and countries to the progress in tourism and sustainability development goals.

Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010 : The environmental permitting regulations act 2010
were introduced on 6 April 2010 and replace the 2007 regulations. These regulation covers the
storage, treatment, transport and disposal of wastage. Waste is considered to be dangerous when
it might be harmful to human health or the environment.
The waste framework directive : It requires members states to ensure the waste is recovered or
disposed of without endangering human health and without using processes and methods which
could harm the environments
Climate Change Act 2008 : The climate change act 2008 made the UK the first country in the
world to have legally building long term framework. The act introduces the concept of carbon
budgets. A carbon budgets places a restriction on total amount of greenhouses gases. The UK is
first country to set legally binding carbon budgets.
