INTRODUCTION
Tourism is economic, cultural and social event which creates the movement of the people
from one destination to another away from their home country for the fun or professional
purpose (Tan and et. al., 2018). The people visiting the place are commonly termed as the tourist.
In the area of the tourism, Sustainable tourism is the concept or guideline for the tourism
destinations to operate sustainable by keeping in mind the care for the environment with the
economic and cultural development. For the present report on the sustainable and responsible
tourism management the chosen destination is “Slovenia”. This tourism destination is located at
the South-east Europe touching the peak of the Alps and bordering the Mediterranean Sea. This
destination is considered under the top 10 destinations of the world for the sustainable tourism.
The report will outline main features of the sustainable and responsible tourism in context of the
chosen destination. Further in the report importance and significance of tourism development
planning for sustainability is highlighted through purpose and principles. In the report the
principles of sustainable and responsible tourism management is discussed in regard of the
destination. In the end, how the sustainable and responsible tourism is managed in varied
destination is discussed.

P1. Evolution of sustainable and responsible tourism
Sustainable tourism and responsible tourism are two different terms that differ in their
meanings and objectives.
Sustainable tourism: In earlier 90s the term sustainable tourism as the application for the
subject of sustainable development of the tourism was derived in the tourism industry. From the
traditional tourism that used to focus on the entertaining the visitors in order to gain the social,
economic and cultural growth. But with the increasing population and climatic changes due to
the tourism sector the tourism bring new concept of sustainable tourism which aims to minimise
the bad impacts and maximize the positive impacts of the tourism activities on the tourism
destination and its local population (Morrison, 2022). In order to fulfil this aim the of the
evolved sustainable tourism the destinations like Slovenia has adopted the sustainable practices
that conserve the resources and also utilize them, wisely to maintain their long term relevance
and viability. With the growing trend of the customers regarding the tourism destination that are

greener and eco- friendly the sustainable tourism has evolved its aim to consider the variables
such as well- being, education, health and community in the tourism concern. Also the main aim
for the sustainable tourism is to generate economic benefit. The reason for the evolution of the
sustainable tourism is due to the intent downfall of the positive impact of mass tourism. Also the
development of the technology in the sustainable tourism has lead towards the usage of
application of technology in the sustainability development in tourism. As the factor of the
evolution of sustainable tourism the concept of eco- tourism and green tourism are also
established with action plan and strategies to improve condition of local economy. Thus as the
Slovenia destination ensures the environmental friendly tourism to have sustainable tourism.
Responsible tourism: the new term in the tourism sector that refers to the advocates of the
tourism and tourism destinations regarding the responsibility of the businesses towards the
environment and social aspects of the tourism. This states that the responsible tourism is the
subset of the sustainable tourism (Holmes, Dodds and Frochot, 2021). The term responsible
tourism was first coined in the 1996 by the various tourism and environmental experts. In order
to understand and promote the tourism in the society the responsible tourism evolved through the
use of the sustainable tourism by promoting the responsibility of involving the local tourism in
the tourism sector by the tourism destinations. For instance the Slovenia destination has utilized
the evolution of the responsible tourism by promoting the safety and security of visitors during
their visit. This has added the new specified rules in the policy of the responsible tourism such
as:
Reduction of negative economic, social and environmental impacts.
Earn greater economy for the local citizens and thereby enhance the well- being of the
host communities.
Improve the working situations of the tourism industry.
Provide the access for the physically disabled visitors
To respect different cultures and encourage the respect between the tourist and host to
build the local pride and confidence.
Thus, over the period of the time there is huge evolution in the sustainable and responsible
tourism by which the tourism destination are maintaining the high level of tourism satisfaction
and also ensures that with fun and meaningful tourist experience the awareness for the
sustainability and promotion of sustainable tourism is also practised (Panzer-Krause, 2019).
