SUSTAINABLE SYSTEM PLAN1
Answer to Question 1
Part [a] Severe Environmental issues and its connection with climate change
Environmental issue has become a global concern in the contemporary world and
Australia is no exception. At present, the country is experiencing a numbers of environmental
issues; two most important of them are issues with Deforestation and issues related to
pollution (Wwf.panda.org, 2019).
Deforestation Issue:
According to Jared Diamond, Deforestation is the leading cause of Land Degradation
in Australia (Wwf.panda.org, 2019).The country is facing a situation of Deforestation, due to
a number of reasons. One of the prime reason is that making pace for the multinational
companies and or the growing population of the country. Queensland clears more land every
year than the remainder of Australia set up together, and the rate at which it is pulverizing its
vegetation is similar with the scandalous deforestation that happens in the Brazilian Amazon.
Brazil bulldozes about 0.25% of its piece of the Amazon every year; Queensland clears about
0.45% of its staying lush zones. The following data is showing the amount of forest is being
cleared each and every year:

This is resulting into decreasing salinity of the soil which is further affecting the water
quality. The decreased salinity of the water, affects the quality of the water, and is affecting
the downslope of the water quality. The decreasing salinity of the water is also impacting
upon the agriculture of the country. 13% of the land vegetation of the county is removed from
the country, which is impacting upon the food habits of the country (Slezak. 2019). As per
the social planners the overgrazing of the animals is another reason for the country to be
faced with a decreasing land for vegetation and an increasing level of deforestation. All these
are leading to three factors which are affecting the country (Yearly. 2014). First, is that, the

country is now faced with a climatic change. Because of the reduced numberer of plants, the
climate of the country is getting affected, the rainfall count or rate of the country is
increasingly getting decreased. Which is further affecting the country in two folds, first it is
affecting the vegetation and the agriculture of the country.
The reduced number of rainfall is resulting into a decreased amount of production and
a low amount of production. Second, it is impacting upon vegetation quality. Due to the
reduced amount of rainfall and the increased salinity of the water the soil nutrients are getting
exhausted, which is affecting the quality of the food. A second impact is upon the soil quality
of the country (Prăvălie. 2016). Due to deforestation, the soil quality of the country is getting
affected which is resulting into soil erosion. Soil erosion is affecting the country the lives of
the country, and this is much true for the natives of the country, who stay in a land afar from
the main land. A third impact is draughts. The deforestation and the climate change is paving
the ways for man- made draughts in the country. The March 2017 was a drier season for the
country, when some of the important habitats of the country like, South Wales, eastern and
central Victoria, Queensland and all of the places of Tasmania was faced with severe
draughts.
Pollution Issue:
Another major environmental issue that the country is faced with, is pollution, and
this also is contributing to climate change within the country. Australia is one of the countries
that contribute the highest in the per capita carbon emissions in the world. As according to a
recent report, the country holds a 0.3% population of the world and which contribute in the
1.3% of the green- house gas emissions of the world. Australia mainly uses the cola power
for electricity, and the country has no nuclear power house. It has a very low level of hydro
and wave power, and a very limited solar power (Turner et al. 2016). The country is
surrounded by water bodies on three sides. This huge contribution of the country to the
