Sustainable Tourism Development in Qatar: A Comprehensive Analysis_2

Sustainable tourism
As the population is growing in a fast pace past and the demand for resources in exceeding
beyond limitation there is an urgent call from the entire universe to promote more and more
sustainable development. The same goes for any genre. Tourism is the sector which has
recorded highest growth in the global economy. To define sustainable tourism we can say
that it is an approach to maintain a balance between the various aspects of tourism sector. It
specifies that the companies should try to optimise the available resources and use them
wisely so that it does not affect the environment while keeping in mind that development
should speed up in fast pace. It focuses on generating employment, maintain biodiversity,
give quality service to the customer and last but not the least economic and sustainable
development.
P1.1 Discuss how stakeholders can benefit from planning of tourism developments with
reference to Qatar
Qatar, a country in the Middle East is a hot tourist location. The tourism department of this
country has set goals for the entire globe to be a country to have gained excellence in
achieving sustainable tourism. The number of tourist visiting Qatar has grown to more than
12% from the year 2015 till date. The country is a host to various events and it has recorded
more than 3.2 bn visitors in a year. Some of the events that are hosted by Qatar are – Eid-al-
Fitr, Eid-al- Adha, summer festivals, football events, many more sports events and the FIFA
2022 football world cup is also going to be hosted by Qatar. In the last year the country had
received more than 30bn in investment for development in infrastructure. The tourism sector
of Qatar has also reported that more than 30,000 rooms are needed to be built to match the
raging demand. So from the above scenario we can understand that Qatar is fetching high
growth in the travel and tourism sector (Forstner, 2018). As the demand of tourists increases
there increases chances of more and more employment. As there is an urgent call for
sustainable development in tourism the tourism department needs proper management team
to plan the sustainable development of such. Therefore it needs people to do that. The
stakeholders like- tour agents, transport department, government, marketing agencies, and
last but not the least the tourists are benefitted. There is generation of employment in the
infrastructure and hospitality sector as new rooms, furniture are needs to be supplied
(Ottenbacher et al., 2018). Planning starts from research and continues through collecting

data, analysis of data and many more to cover every aspect of the economy to ensure majority
of the stakeholders are benefitted.
P1.2 Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of public/private sector tourism
planning partnerships drawing examples Qatar
Private sector comes with innovation and efficiency when it comes to development but
mostly we are aware of the exploiting nature of the private enterprises when it comes to
people, places, resources while on the other hand public enterprises are focused in
implementing old school methods in attaining its goal through protecting people’s rights and
ensuring equality amongst all. For achievement of sustainable development both these
enterprises should work together to utilise its strength to establish such. Private sector ranging
from tour agents, hotels, amusement parks, bars, clubs provide essential services and products
so that tourists enjoy hassle free holiday in Qatar while public enterprises like – government
tourism department, various NGO’s play crucial role in marketing recent developments in the
country which will give awesome experience to the tourist and also spread awareness and
knowledge about the harmful effects of pollution, healthy lifestyle and living etc (Saarinen,
2018). Various public sector enterprise produces low cost and eco friendly products like-
guide maps, bin bags, eco-friendly plastics etc to establish and maintain biodiversity.
Government campaigns of Qatar to train the various stakeholders about recent trends in
services, hospitality, and sustainability are few examples of public enterprises. Therefore
strong relationship between various bodies of public-private sector can improve the
employment rate of Qatar, improve biodiversity, improve tourist experience etc. Though
there are advantages but there are some disadvantages too of establishing public-private
enterprise in tourism planning. First of all a finance constraint will be a very big possibility
because collaboration between these too is a big picture. There are chances of collision and
conflicts between the two due to diverse working ethics and objectives, one work for profit
and the other works for equality and service.
P 2.1 Analyse features of tourism development planning at different levels with
reference to the Qatar.
In this era of widespread development and usage of internet, development happening in every
corner across the globe can be easily accessed within a flick of a second. If it would have
been 30 years back then the context of different level would not have popped up for
