3.3 Different stages in planning for sustainability
Sustainability planning is the concept that involves different stages to plan different
activities that fosters preserving of resources for future generations. In context to tourism
sector, such planning can be defined as establishing relationship with economical, ecological
and other factors in order to preserve the heritage as well as value of monuments and
destinations for the future generations. In includes stages to plan sustainability that
emphasises on performance of tourism sector of Qatar. Stages are as follows:
Step 1: Determining objectives: This is the first stage where short, medium as well as long
term objectives and goals are determined. It defines main aim of sustainability for future
time. The Qatar Tourism Authority determines objectives that helps in sustaining of tourism
sector in international market for long term.
Step 2: Stakeholder Identification: At such phase, stakeholders are identified that can help in
meeting objectives of tourism industry of Qatar. Employees, community members,
government authorities and many more are considered as stakeholders by such country.
Step 3: Sustainable planning: Such stage includes planning all operations, procedures that
will help in development of culture, heritage, building and natural beauty that are the main
attraction of tourism places of Qatar.
Step 4: Addressing issues: At this phase, the members of Qatar Association addresses
various issues related with preserving culture and heritage and at the same time consults with
stakeholders to make further initiations.
Step 5: Resolving of issues: At such stage, stakeholders along with association members of
Qatar comes to a decision regarding solving issues and formulate effective strategies for
future contingencies.
Step 6: Initiation: The final stage of sustainable planning in which members of Qatar
Association after analysing all aspects taken initiation decision. All the plans are put into
proper actions and after some time period, evaluation of results in done.
3.1 Introduction of the concept of sustainability in tourism development
Sustainable development within tourism can be termed as a developmental procedure that is
related with tourism planning as well as foster growth while preserving quality of activities for future
generations. Such tourism encourages development of numerous legislations that promote objectives
based on economic development with the help of tourism as well as environment protection. It emphasis
on environmental, economical as well as social development of particular industry or region. According
to Brundland report, sustainable tourism focuses on formulating components that influences issues that
are linked with development of tourism sector. The principles of sustainable tourism include planning
consideration and benefits to tourism industry, environment, and so on.
3.2 Factors that may prevent/hinder sustainable tourism development
In context to sustainable tourism development of Qatar, there are various factors that hinders
such development. One of the factor is Infrastructural factors which is related with additional
development of tourist places or destinations. It hampers the growth of sustainable tourism development
of Qatar due to improper supply of facilities such as water systems, signage along with resources that are
demanded by tourists. If there are more gaps between supply and demand of infrastructure facilities,
then it impacts on development of tourism of Qatar. Many major changes for the development of natural
and heritage places sometimes drastically impacts on tourism industry. Some of the another hindrance is
the interdependence of social, economic as well as natural environment and major changes are seen in
the relationships of all environment that impacts on sustainable development of tourism sector of Qatar.
