TITLE: "Impact of COVID-19 on nursing role.
INTRODUCTION
In United Kingdom, nursing workforce has made better contribution during COVID-19
health emergency. There is a requirement to examine current knowledge and skills to cope up
with the future potential outbreaks. Research methodology is particular technique about selects,
and examine the information and data concerned to topic. It provides reader to evaluate the
overall reliability and validity of study. There are various number of the approaches used in
research method. Main objective of this chapter is to design research approach by mixed type of
the research techniques (Alıcı and Koç, 2020). Research approach mainly supports an
investigator on how to be come across findings of research results. Nursing is profession within
health care sector that focused on care of people, communities and families to attain and
maintain the optimal quality of the life.
BACKGROUND
Nurses plays multiple functions and roles during COVID-19 pandemic. These necessary
roles cover different domains for an instance providing the health education, support general
public, screening the services and support people in the high risk categories. Nurses are on
frontline and responsible for giving the holistic care for all the patients. They mainly constitute
majority of the healthcare providers as they have necessary function in the healthcare systems.
The impact of COVID-19 on healthcare system and patients started to be manifest. The patient of
COVID- 19 isolated and without visitor’s access, nurse has to provide the emotional support to
the patients and also to their families. They had complex task of helping the families by phone as
well as video conference (Kupeli and et. al., 2018).
LITERATURE REVIEW
On the basis of Ruth Underdown (2021) The UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a
sovereign state in Europe, generally known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain. UK is
famous for its health care services and perform. United Kingdom has the progressive and
revolutionary healthcare system in world. There are number of roles which are played by the
health care sector in this. There are number of health care centres in UK. This can be seen in
recent time that there are number of factors which help in performing task and manage roles
according to culture needs. Due to COVID, nursing facing several issues as they affected their

life and health. In this nursing helps in safekeeping the lives of a people. In this nursing facing
issues related to shortage of beds, medical supplies due to this they cannot provide services to
patients properly and in an effective manner (Bové and et. al., 2020). In this top authority
provide training to nurses. This helps in performing the task and manage roles according to
business function. This can be seen that after the impact of COVID-19, there are number of
changes in nursing function which are related to changes in training programme and manage
roles according to it. This article also relates number of function which have to be consider in
order to meet needs and perform task in effective way. As first waves of coronavirus cases
spread through U.S. in March, at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, clinical nurse specialist
Michelle Patch moved it into full-time faculty position. This can be seen there are number of
function which are used by business firm in order to meet needs in manage roles of employees
the time of training of staff mentioned. This can be seen that there are number of knowledge
which are faces by nursing staff while working in time. These are related to performing task in
effective way. There are number of issues which are related to performing as a nursing in recent
time. These are elated to impact of virus and leas to changes in performance of business function.
This also impact on employee performance as they are working impact in mind. Some of the
issues are related to changes in working habits and manage roles according to needs. This also
impact on their needs and personal life. This is because employees in this has to changes their
mind set and needs to performance according to their guidelines. These are number of guidelines
which have to be filled by the staff members working in this. These are related to changes in
business function and leads to managing roles in appropriate way. this can be seen that most of
the staff working in business and helps in meeting needs and requirements. The lack of skilled
nurses in hospitals and clinics is also a factor that affects patient performance and contributes to
improvements in business operation. This also impacted negatively on social mind set leads to
changes in business productivity. Personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages, such as
masks, are necessary to avoid the spread of infection. These are used in order to prevent the staff
members. These are different issues which is suffered by business organization. These have to be
managed by nursing staff. Here, this also impacted ion social thinking where number of
individual are paying respects to staff members in this time (Cargill, 2018).
As contrary to this, Tatenda Chimbwanda (2021) stated that an inadequacy of housing
and travel services for health-care staff. The individuals that have to be handled often face
2

insufficient quarantine facilities for health-care staff. This is related to changes in government
guidelines related to no use of transport in order to prevent transmission of virus. Here, nursing
workers has to manage own transport which cost them higher then there pay. Physical fatigue
and emotional stress is often factor seen by health workers as a consequence of working in an
uncertain situation. This leads to changes in mind set of employs working in this situation. One
more factor which bias related to employs performance in this sector. This is because they have
to perform the roles by compromising these personal lives. This impacted negatively and lead to
stress in employs for long period of time. Lack of health insurance coverage is also can factor
because there are number of employs in this sector which are performing with cover. Major
problem is related to no cover of COVID in different policy related to insurance. Concerns about
personal safety and health in the industry and in the community, and also concerns about family
members' safety. This is because number of society and local individual are nor accepting
employees working in nursing. This is related to threat of COVID (Chen and et. al., 2021). Lack
of distress therapy, coordination distance between medical staff and nurse leaders causing
uncertainty and delay in decision-making, resulting in anger and mental fatigue, Lack of support
necessities such as land and other facilities while on duty, Staff union participation and self-
motivated politicians are factor. Due to COVID, nursing facing several issues as they affected
their life and health. In this nursing helps in safekeeping the lives of a people. In this nursing
facing issues related to shortage of beds, medical supplies due to this they cannot provide
services to patients properly and in an effective manner. In this top authority provided training to
nurses. This can be identified from the articles that there are number of impacts which are related
to nurses and social thinking. This leads to changes in function of employee and have to be
managed according to current needs. There are different roles which have to be used in order to
manage function and leads to changes. In this setting, it is necessary to reflect on nursing, its
scope, contribution and the recognition of its professionals, especially in the year that
commemorates the bicentenary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing
(Kupeli and et. al., 2018).

STUDY DESIGN
Research Design
It is defined as overall strategy used to carry out an investigation that explains logical
plan to tackle the research questions by gathering, interpretation and discussion of the data.
Descriptive, exploratory and experimental are the different research design.
Justification: In conducting the present investigation, there has been descriptive research
design used. The main reason behind using this research design is that it provides the detailed
explanation about impact of COVID-19 on nursing role (Loveday, 2020).
Research method
Research methods are particular process for particular process for gathering as well as
examining the data. Developing the research methods is necessary part of research design. When
planning method, there is need to make the effective decisions. There are different terms related
to an investigation which helps in performing the research in significant manner. The different
research terms consist qualitative, quantitative method, qualitative method, interpretivism
philosophy, positivism research philosophy, inductive research approach, deductive research
approach, primary and secondary research method (Loveday, 2020).
Justification: In this current research paper, qualitative methods of research have been used.
The main reason for using this strategy is that it saves time and collecting from the east. An
investigation is all about gathering the data so that concrete decisions can be guided by this. The
qualitative analysis is at the spectrum's touchy feely end. This is not so much about the counting
of beans and more about capturing the opinion of people. This nursing paper following
qualitative approach is an exploratory and it seeks to define why and how specific phenomenon.
The qualitative findings are mainly inform understanding of experiences of patients to improving
ability to develop the particular and tailored interventions in nursing and patient spheres which
will make improvement outcomes of patient (Morley, Bradbury-Jones and Ives, 2020). In United
Kingdom care homes, medicine management system is used than the original medicines
packaging, organise large number of the medicines which are used through residents. For analyse
the qualitative method, researcher can use the methods for an instance thematic analysis in order
to interpret the patterns and also meanings in data and information. It is flexible in nature and can
be effectively conducted with the small size samples.

STUDY SAMPLE
The present investigation is based on the secondary method of data collection. The
information has been collected through using articles, books and journals. There has been
information collected by using the descriptive analysis. So, there is no need to collect the sample
size.
DATA COLLECTION
The secondary research method has been used in collection of the information and data. The
secondary investigation is research method that consists using the existing data. It is collated and
summarise to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of an investigation, the secondary
investigation consists the different research materials that published in the research reports and
similar articles and documents. Secondary research is a popular method for a systematic
investigator, where a researcher in the course of research process is focused on existing data. The
organisation, compilation and analysis of the sampled data to obtain the valid results of the study
consists of this form of research design. On the other hand, reference to use of the secondary data
analysis in nursing literature can be found from last year journal. the secondary data mainly
enhancing incorporated into the nursing research study as the nurses are seek to be capture as
well as address complexity of care of patient. In regards to this, analytical problems with the
references problems with reference to research study which is mainly used the secondary data in
examination of ways under which nurses assess patients (Üzar-Özçetin, Russell-Westhead and
Tees, 2020). Using the data led to enhanced understanding of social world under which the
assessment can be took place.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Secondary data collection method
Strengths Weaknesses
This method of data collection is less costly. This method cannot refine the questions or
procedure on the basis of feedback.
Information can be collected by using the
available sources.
Less chances to collect the authentic
information.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
It is essential for an investigator to consider the ethical principles while conducting an
investigation. Informed consent, anonymity, confidentiality and data privacy are the different
ethical principles which need to be consider. It is necessary that an investigator should have the
consent of people which are involved in an investigation. Researcher should assure to collect the
information from authentic sources. There should be confidentiality about the personal
information of those people which are involved while conduct an investigation (Morley,
Bradbury-Jones and Ives, 2020).
DATA ANALYSIS
For analysis of the collected data by using secondary method, there has been content
analysis method used. It is an analysis tool that is mainly used to identify presence of the certain
concepts or themes within given qualitative data. With the help of using this analysis method, an
investigator can able to analyse and quantify presence of certain themes (Sekse, R.J.T., Hunskår
and Ellingsen, 2018).
STUDY RESULTS
The findings concluded from overall collected information is that nurses are involved
directly in all aspects of the hospitality quality consisting the patient care, medication
management and also assistance with the surgeries. They are responsible for assessing as well as
monitoring the patients and also performing interventions to prevent the medical complications.
Nurses continue to be on front line fighting the COVID-19 and giving the necessary healthcare
services. It puts them at the high risk in order to contracting the communicable disease consisting
COVID-19. They have to assure that all the patients acquire the personalised and high quality
services regarding their infectious situation. Other than this, it has been evaluated that
information can be collected by using the secondary method of data collection as it provides the
theoretical information. Data and information about impact of COVID-19 on hospitality sector
has been collection by nursing the different articles. There has been qualitative method used
because it provides the detailed explanation regarding the specific subject area.
DISCUSSION
From the above mention information, it has been discussed that nurses are at front line of
COVID-19 outbreak response and exposed to the hazards that put them at infection risk. This is

necessary that they are mainly supported to protect with COVID-19 infection prevention process
and provision about protective gear ay practice setting. The instructor’s and nursing managers
should consist the guidance to nurses and also support the personnel on arising coronavirus
related issues. They are actively included in the COVID-19 interventions and will remain main
players in stopping pandemic with the adequate assistance. They should be provided with healthy
working environment in order to empower efforts to control and manage outbreak. Other than
this, it has been examined that occupational safety is main to work of nurses at the time of
COVID-19 as they are face to face with the danger on daily basis. Overarching duty of the nurse
leadership will assure that security steps and preventions are mostly taken to minimize dangers
of workplace. In context to this, healthcare associations have the infection prevention procedures
as well as personal protective equipment’s. Nursing supervisor and managers are expected to
enable the burses to be assert right to be withdraw from job arrangement.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Conclusion
It has been concluded from above mention report that nursing is concerned with the
collaborative care of the people of different ages and groups in all the settings. There has been
research journal consists that is based on the nursing within United Kingdom. There have been
different methods discussed on the basis of the nursing related journal selected. In this present
research, qualitative research method has been used because it gives detailed and in- depth
understanding about the specific subject area. The journal article is based on the secondary
method of data collection because it provides the detailed explanations on particular subject.
Recommendations
From the above mention information, it has been recommended that nurses should be
maintain the supply as well as use of sanitation materials and protective equipment on the basis
of latest guidance. In addition to that, it is recommended that nurses follow all the safety
protocols associated with COVID-19 prevention, as they come in contact with numerous patients
and can become host for the disease as well. Furthermore, nurses should be instructed to
prioritize their own health as well because, their job role is to take care of other’s wellbeing and
will be unable to do the same in case anything happens to them. The roles and responsibilities
associated with nursing changes significantly at the time of spread of COVID-19 and therefore, it
is recommended that healthcare institutions provide appropriate training to their staff in case of

any unfortunate event like this, nurses should be trained to deal with stressful situations and
should be educated about emotional intelligence while decision making. Nurses are one of the
biggest tool at organization’s disposal and are considered to be the first line of defence and
therefore, they should have proper training and their wellbeing should be prioritized as well.
