of the left hamstring muscle when she was in high school and it was during the track season
of the year 2012. It was reported that the hamstring muscle tone and for a period of three
months, rehabilitation was done resulting in complete recovery. Again, in April 2011, while
carrying out her usual morning practice, she suffered a left hip injury for which she forthwith
could not bear her own weight. A sports hernia was suspected by her trainer. Both the CT
scan and the MRI findings were unremarkable. The athlete almost healed but while bowling,

Reason for Admission: The athlete reported an episodic hip pathology, which did not
show significant improvement with the treatment options provided over a period of one year.
Following a needle biopsy that was performed on 17/10/2017, a diagnosis of synovial
sarcoma of the left medial thigh was made. No distant metastasis to the lungs was indicated
by a chest CT scan. Immediately, the athlete began radiation therapy completing therapy mid-
January 2018 with no other current findings. Following successful radiation therapy, the
athlete was admitted on 13/03/2018 being scheduled for resection of the mass on 14/03/2018.
Procedure: Resection of the left medial thigh synovial sarcoma
I had the opportunity to manage her on her third day post- operative, on 17/03/2018.

spreading of Synovial Sarcoma follows fascial planes. According to Baker, (1983) the
translocation involving (X;18) (p11; q11) fuses with a gene from the 18th chromosome (SYT
gene) resulting in a homologous gene that is at the Xp11 position. SYT-SSX2 and SSYT-
SSX1 are fusion proteins that are thought to take the role of abnormal transcriptional
