1.1. Background of the project
Talent management tends to be related with the steps and strategy used by a firm to ensure
and have the better attraction, selection and retention of the skilled employees. Further, talent
management also involves and comprises of a combination of various effective HR process that
brings higher efficiency across the employee life cycle and also encompass better workforce
planning and development (Chatterjee and et. al., 2022). The current project is based on
analysing the key issues and challenges which are created by the covid-19 that is creating many
problems and threats within the hospitality industry. The organisation selected for current project
is GLH which is a well known British-based global hotel company the main headquarter of
which is located in London, and it also tend to be a subsidiary of GL Limited. It has seen that the
spread of the covid-19 has created and lead to many negative impacts on the performance and
efficiency level of the GLH hotels thus current study is undertaken to review the role of talent
management in reducing the negative impacts of covid-19 within hospitality industry.

Aim of the project
To determine about the importance of concept of talent management along with
evaluating its role in reducing the negative impacts of covid-19 within hospitality industry. A
research project on GLH hotels.

1.3. Rationale and significance for the project
The selection of current project tends to be rationale and significant as it supports with the
better understanding about the vital concept of the talent management. Along with this, the
undertaking of the current project is also vital and rationale to provide a better awareness about
the key negative impacts and issue created by the covid-19 on the retail sector (Birtch and et. al.,
2021). Thus, it brings better implication of strategy and ways that supports mitigation of theses
challenge and also leads to better talent management to support better growth and higher success
of a firm. Along with this, the undertaking and carry out of the current project is also significant
and rationale from the personal interest of the researcher as it meet the academic qualification
and also ensures the better development of key skills and required competency.

topic of talent management along with issue created by covid-19 for which a set of online article,
books and journal are being reviewed, a discussion of which is provided as below:

According to the view point of the Gallardo-Gallardo, E. and Collings, D.G., 2021, it has
been analysed that an enhancing need of the talent management is being seen within the
hospitality industry to ensure the effective attraction as well as longer retention of the talent
candidates. It has been seen that a higher level of employee turnover and lack of motivation is

being seen within the hospitality industry because of the increasing competition level as well as
due to the spread of covid-19. Therefore, the concept of the talent management has become more
important and vital within hospitality industry.
Talent management encompasses and supports an effective way to have higher employee
engagement as well as also focus on the overall learning and development of the staff thus it
supports higher motivation and succession of the employees (Jayathilake and et. al., 2021). Apart
from this, talent management also supports long term retention of the employees as well as
supporting better employee integration that is vital to effectively direct and guide the employees
towards better achievement of set goals. Thus, importance of talent management is increasing
within hospitality industry to attract, identify, develop, engage and retain employees to
effectively meet the strategic objectives within hospitality sector.
Key challenges and negative impacts created by covid-19.

many negative impacts and challenge are being created by the covid-19 in form of the affecting
the smooth flow of business operations. It has been analysed that the covid-19 lead to the
implication of the strict lockdown as well as maintaining proper social distancing norms that
resulted in form of sudden shut down of many crucial operations of hospitality industry. Along
with this, the covid-19 has affected the supply chain network of the hotels as the strict lockdown
created issues in delivery and transportation of product and services. Beside this, the covid-19
has also created a sense of fear and anxiety in both employees and customers of hospitality
industry that resulted in form of high employee turnover and reduction in overall productivity of
the hotels. Thus, creation of the fear and anxiety in minds of employees which leads to de-
motivation and higher employee turnover is the key challenge and negative impact created by the
covid-19 (Kashive and et. al., 2022).
Role of talent management in reducing the negative impacts of covid-19 within hospitality
industry.
With respect to the view point of the Santana, M., 2021, a vital role is being played by the
talent management in reducing the negative impacts of covid-19 within hospitality industry by
the way of supporting better workforce planning as well as leading higher employee engagement.
A Vital role is being played by the talent management in ensuring positive employee experience
by the way of leading higher employee engagement and satisfaction thus, it supports better

the talent management supports regular training and development of employees which boost
their skill and competency level thus make them more able to mitigate and overcome the

better achievement of set goals and objective. Beside this, talent magnet also ensures positive
workplace relationship and set a better connection between employees and managers which
ensures higher coordination and timely achievement of set goals and supports better mitigation
of the challenges created by covid-19. Thus, important role of talent management is seen in
reducing the negative impacts of covid-19 within hospitality industry through supporting higher
employee motivation and confidence level based on effective employee engagement and

development is also an effective way that ensures mitigation of covid-19 challenges by the way
of enhancing ability and skill level of the employees. Beside this, the training also supports and
brings higer confidence level in employees that effectively direct and guide them for better
mitigation of covid-19 challenge and also supports higher productivity based on improved skill
