Part 1
Step 1: Identify a life crisis event you have experienced in a clinical practicum.
1. A precipitating event occurs.
Considering my clinical practicum in general hospital, I have observed that one of patient get
admitted who has been attempted to suicide by jumping in front of the truck. But the individual
get injured severely but rest of ventilator in the critical unit of the hospital. Their family
members face this crisis which is drastic for them and mother of that guy become unstable due to
her son critical condition (Vigen and Agathangelou, 2016). The condition of the victim was very
critical and physicians have trying their best to make him stable. Unfortunately his injuries have
started recovering but his mental state is not completely normal due to pressure of career. His
family is facing financial and emotional crisis from which it is very difficult to overcome with.
2. The person has a perception of the event as threatening or damaging.
The perception of the person is about the event is that it can be extremely life threatening
because his attempt was intentionally for suicide. It includes that critical incident because the
speed of truck is very high and jumping of the individual was instant due to which there is no
chance for truck driver to save the person. However, it is just about the destiny and lick so that
he is safe otherwise the accident happened was deadly which can be assumed by observing the
critical condition of the victim in hospital. Moreover, I have observed the condition and feel that
how can he will be recover because that was my first experience of internship and such kind of
case which is really full with clinical complexities.
3. This perception leads to emotional distress
This kind of condition is responsible for making an individual emotionally weak but the patient
was extremely depressed due to which he attempt to suicide. It includes the condition of his
family as they people get broken by heart and his mother become unstable due to emotional
distress. However, they were afraid of severe injuries and ventilator condition of their loved
which is not easy for them to overcome easily (Romanelli and Hudson, 2017). It involves the
situation when nobody will eat or drink anything but praying for their loving one to become
stable by health.
4. The emotional distress leads to impairment in functioning due to failure of an individual's
usual coping methods that previously prevented the crisis from occurring.
