teachers had been trying for open learning spaces for quite
a few years. The teachers have allotted three kindergarten
classes, working in the space, hence, a big classroom
environment is necessary.
In the interview, the Ingleburn teachers had mentioned
about the need of a proper open learning space. One of the
teachers Ashley have stated that ‘I believe that that was
one of the main drivers as well as the idea that a learning
space and you know an inspiring learning space can

learning. Since they almost spend 40 weeks in a schools,
uninspiring and traditional classrooms might make the
students demotivated towards learning.
According to Lyon and Ford (2015), the classroom
environment is one of the most the important factor that
affects the learning of the students. The students learn
much better as they view learning environment to be
supportive and positive.
5L’s of active learning
As stated by the teachers, the 5 L’s of active learning is
used by the teachers for facilitating the students to engage
in the classroom activities. It is a pedagogical approach to
arouse motivation in the students and reach them the five
elements while –listening, pay attention , display positive
body language and revise the curriculum that has been
taught
As mentioned by Lok, (2015), that many schools uses the
5 L’s of learning “legs crossed, eyes looking and years
listening , lips closed and hands in the lap”. A rewarding
system was included among the kids, who are seated with
5L’s.
As stated by Whitton, (2015), 5L’s helps to reinforce
positive behaviour in the children. Instead of scolding the
children, they can be asked to show their 5 L’s. Positive
behaviour can be used to teach new behaviour. Positive
reinforcement involves the addition of a reinforcing
stimulus after a behaviour, making it more likely that this
behaviour would be occurring in future.
A proper well maintained routine
The Ingleburn teachers maintain a routine and a morning
routine helps them to keep a track of the holidays.
Children also keep a track of the days and the events by
the use of a visual time table present on the white board.
Again the name tags helps to identify students that are
present or absent.

In the entire interview session, the teachers have
mentioned about the positive behavioural learning system,
like every week a “green card” is given to those students
that have done something exceptionally brilliant. When
they have 20 green cards, they a bronze award, 4 green
cards get a silver ad 60 green cards gets a gold.
“Yeah the green card is part of our positive behavioural
learning system which is a whole school system. We –
there is a number of green cards that you need to try to
give out each week but they are given out to the students
who have done an exceptional job” as stated by Kelly. She
had also admitted that a positive reinforcement is given in
the name of a merit card that motivates the other children
to perform well.

1. Positive reinforcement strategies
In this concerned standard, some of the students are weak
and requires extra motivation to believe in themselves .
Hence positive reinforcement strategies would be use
constantly for boosting up interest in students.
Writing lesson plans
After the completion of a chapter all the students will be
encouraged to jot down four descriptive sentences related
to what they have understood about the story.
While the students are working, I would walk around to
ensure that all the students are being able to complete the
task.
While walking around the room I will give verbal
appraisals whosoever will complete writing at the first
place. I will also provide assistance to those students who
require assistance in the sentence construction. After the
completion of the writing, each of the copies are marked
and smileys are given as grades. This made them happy
and motivated.
Feedback forms for the mentors , to evaluate
whether my teaching strategies have brought
any improvement in the learning of the student,
whether positive reinforcement hampered the
teaching strategies or it affected the quality of
the lesson.
Reflection part for the educators to reflect on

2) Using PBL merit cards
The Ingleburn school follows PBL, and follows a reward
system for motivating the students to perform well in the
academic activities. They also use star or happy faces
throughout the lesson plan to acknowledge, or show respect.
On getting sufficient green cards, they are also provided
with a bronze and a gold card, whosoever would get the
maximum number of gold and bronze cards.
Again, the school tends to use high flyers system as a part of
the PBL system, where each is the provided every minute
for obeying the classroom instruction, such as sitting cross
legged with their 5Ls.
English literacy activates
In the beginning of the class I will select a piece of
drama from a text book and will select 5-6 students from
the classroom for a through reading of the piece.
After the completion of the reading, some of the words
are selected from the passage and are asked to write their
meanings and construct sentences with them.
Those who will be able to come up with innovative
strategies would get a merit card, as a token of
acknowledgement of their hard work.
Children coming up with more number of sentences will
be give more number of merit cards.
After the completion of the class, I will fill up my
personal portfolio and will reflect on my learning
