Teaching, learning and assessment play an important role in education and training
because without it, no one will be educated and trained. It provides instructions to the people by
which it is determined that educational goals or objectives are met or not (Moore, 2013).
Education and training both components keep an important place in a person's life because with
the help of this, skills or knowledge are gained by an individual by which he or she becomes able
to perform any kind of work or job. If people will not have capability or efficiency then he will
not be able to get success in their career because training and education both help in personality
development of an individual. So in order to get success in their career, it is necessary that
person should have full knowledge or skills in his specific field so that he can perform their job
effectively and efficiently. This project is based on Imperial College which is situated in London.
It is a public research University. This assignment will define roles and responsibilities of a
person in education and training as well its relation with various kinds of legislation, regulatory
requirements. Importance of identify individual needs of learners will also be stated in this study.

There are several types of points of referral by which learners' needs or wants can be
satisfied that are given below-
Internal referrals- It can be referred to those elements which exist within an organisation
like- Administration- As a teacher, it is very important that administration should provide
proper support to tutor that will assist in providing knowledge to the learners (Simonson,

Smaldin and Zvacek, 2014). It will also provide information regarding organisational
rules and regulations by which teacher will be able to provide best services to their
student.
 Student service- Teacher can also ask for advice fro student services that will help in
meeting needs of learners. Apart from this, if students face any kind of problems then
this facility will help them.
External referrals- It includes those elements which are existing outside the premises of
company-
 Government agencies- Teacher has main responsibility to share information of rules and
regulations which is set by government to their learners so that their rights can be
protected against any unethical activities.
 Specialist support- Teacher can also take support of any expert who will help of his
learners. These specialist will conduct a meeting in which all important information will
be shared with students (Brown, Bull and Pendlebury, 2013).
It is concluded that with the help of internal and external referrals, teacher can perform
their roles and responsibilities effectively.
2.1 Significance of identify and meet with individual needs of learners
Mostly teachers wants that their students will get success in their career by getting equal
education. For this, it is important that educator should analyse needs or wants of learners
without using favouritism concept.
Identify- For identifying the needs of learners, teacher should make plan in which
learning should be included.
Meet- For meeting with individual needs, teacher should develop their skills so that
proper and effective knowledge can be given to the learners so that they can get success in their
future (Avalos, 2011).
In this manner, teachers are able to satisfy the needs of students in better way as per the
learning ability. Hence, identification is an important aspect to further fulfil the needs.
2.2 Role and use of initial and diagnostic assessment in agreeing individual learning goals
There are various types of agreeing goals which are described below- Addressing knowledge and skills gap- In order to get desired result, it is necessary that
teacher should identify the gap which is existing in their skills so that corrective action

can be taken accordingly. In order to provide better education to their learners, educator
should remove all limitation from their knowledge by taking corrective action.
 Development of current knowledge and skills- Teacher has main responsibility to
develop their knowledge or skills so that student can be instructed properly and
effectively and they can get success in their future.
It can be concluded that teacher should analyse their skills of knowledge at prior stage so
that he can provide better services to their students.
2.3 Methods of initial and diagnostic assessment
There are various methods of initial and diagnostic assessment to agree individual
learning goals which are described below- Interview- It is one of the most effective method in which assessment can be done easily.
In this, face to face interaction will be done between people in which detailed
information about an individual will be gained by which it can be decided easily that
person is able to carry out his job as well will provide better knowledge to his learners
(Schmeck, 2013).
 Curriculum Vitae- It is that document which contains personal information about
applicant. With the help of this, it can be easily analyse that that person will be able to
perform their job as per specified standards or not. So it is very helpful in meeting with
the needs of learners.
So from above discussion, it can be said that above mentioned methods are very helpful
in satisfying the needs or wants of students.
2.4 Record learners' individual learning goals
It is very necessary that individual learning goals should be recorded properly so that
generated result can be evaluated effectively. There are various methods for recording which are
described below- Paper- It is a traditional method in which objectives were recorded on papers by which
evaluation can done easily and effectively ( Moore and Kearsley, 2011). Action plan- It is also one of the best method by which objectives can be recorded in an
effective manner. By conducting any kind of activity, teacher can know about the
individual goals behind learning.

 IT base- It is a modern technique which helps in knowing about the achieved goals and
objectives within short period of time. It is the best method in today globalisation period
of time because all information about learners can be maintained easily and effectively.

maintenance of records can help in better implementation of the practices and objectives can be

 Learning preferences- Most of the people wants to learn new thing so that they can get
success in their future. Then while designing plan, it should be considered so that
requirements can be satisfied (Cook And et.al., 2011). Flexible- Plan should be made flexible so that desired outcome can be obtained within
stipulated period of time. This present time, situation changes continuously so it should
be keep in mind while formulating any kind of plan.
Curriculum requirements- Practical skills opportunities- Teaching and learning plan should contain that policies by
which learners can gain practical knowledge so that they can get success in their career.
 Wider skills- Plan should be designed in that way by which capability or efficiency of
people can be enhanced so that they become able to perform any kind of job.
3.4 Ways by which teaching and learning plan can be developed
One of the best way is differentiating instruction that should be adopted by teacher while
giving skills or knowledge to the learners. Every student have different learning capacity so it is
necessary that tutor should provide instruction to their student as per their capacity so that their
needs can be satisfied easily.
Teaching and learning plan should have clear objectives that will be learn by learners. In
order to understand lessons, learners should be engaged in learning activities so that they can
learn things easily and effectively (Halász and Michel, 2011). After completion of study, teacher
should take feedbacks from then for knowing that what was learning of them during learning

With the help of self assessment, learners can give feedbacks on their learning. By using
this techniques, weak area of a person can be identified easily which helps in increasing
knowledge of learners. With the help of inclusive learning, trainer can know about the needs of
learners by which he can design lesson and activities as per their requirements.
Peer assessment is another way by which personality of learners can be enhanced. By
using proximal learning theory, students can learn various thing from each other and this is one
of the best way of learners feedbacks. Apart from this, teacher can also use feedbacks evaluation

The zone of proximal development in the learner is the gap between whet he can do without help
and whet he cannot do without help. As the gap between the two decreases and the zone of what

While providing learning to the people, it is necessary that teacher should create better
environment in which everyone feel safe and comfortable to express their views (Tinto, 2012). In
a college, there are different types of students who belongs to different cultures, nations etc. so
teachers have no right to use favouritism concept as well should ignore unfair and unrespectful
behaviour.
If there will be done discrimination among students then no one will give respect to each
other. So it is necessary that there should be safe and relaxed environment so that learners will be
motivated and will focus on their learning. It will help the student to get their specified goals
within correct period of time.
4.2 Way to promote equality and value diversity
When learners will get equal chances for learning and participating in their course then it
will be known as equality. Everyone is different personality but they have same right to learn
things in equal manner (Norcini and et.al., 2011). Diversity promotion states values and respect
differences among learners not on the basis of age, ability, nationality etc.
It can be promoted by conducting discussion between students and teachers which will
help in knowing about each other like their culture and behaviours etc. Every person can write
about their behaviour so that everyone can understand about their preferences and behaviour.
Being a teacher, respect and equality should be given to all students so that learners can
learn right things because a tutor work as a role model which reflect the mind of their students.
So from above discussion, it can be said that teacher should always use right way for
enhancing the knowledge and skills of their learners because every students follow to their tutor.
There are various ways by which equality and diversity can be promoted that are given
below- Ground rules and modelling- Equality and diversity can be promoted in schools or
colleges by making rules an regulations. After designing this, everyone will be liable to
comply it in every situation that will in promoting equality and diversity.

teachers should organise some events by which awareness about culture can be created

In order to achieve desired result, it is necessary that there should be safe and inclusive
environment so that skills or knowledge of learners can be enhanced easily (Panadero and
Jonsson, 2013).
Safe environment-
 When teacher will follow all legal rules and regulations while providing education to
their learners then it will be known as safe environment.
 Organisational polices should also be complied by tutor while giving knowledge and
skills (Griffin, Care and McGaw, 2012).
Inclusive environment-
 If there is any challenging behaviour then prompt response should be given to them so
that learners can learn things easily.

learners so that their skills or knowledge can be enhanced.
 Opportunities to practice skills- Educator should create opportunities where learners can
practice their skills of knowledge because it will help in meeting with individual needs.
Resources- Fit for purpose- Being a teacher, that resources should be used by which decided

 Encouraging learners independence- Teacher should motivate to their students to

There are various ways for promoting equality and value diversity which can be used by
me being a teacher that are described below- Engaging all learners- In order to promote equality and value diversity, I will ask to
them to participate in each activities without using discrimination concept. It will help in
motivating them for learning things effectively so that they can move on towards the way
of success. Action- If in Imperial college, teachers are doing discrimination among students then
strictly action should be taken because everyone has equal right to learn things. Positive use of authority- If any person has power then it should be used properly that
means there should be no misuse of power. If anyone will do then learning process will
be interrupted.
 Peer activities- For promoting value diversity, there should be conducted programmes in
which everyone has to take part. This action will help in achieving desired outcome.

Learning approaches- Varying teaching methods- A teacher should adopt their learning style as per knowledge
level of students so that they can learn things in an effective and efficient manner.

to their students by using latest technology like projector etc. because now everyone
wants to learn thing via this (Wouters and et.al., 2013). External speakers- In order to enhance knowledge of learners, college should invite
external speakers who will share their experience or knowledge on specific topic.
Resources-
 Teacher should use some online resources for giving knowledge to their students so that
they can learn things for long period of time.
 Use of auditory and visuals to explain the concepts such as videos, power point
presentations, short clips etc.

Learners-
 Teacher should communicate with their students in that language which can be
understood by them easily so that their skills or knowledge can be enhanced.
 If any learners have any kind of problems then it should be resolved quickly and

5.2 Benefits and limitation of communication method
There are various methods like verbal, media and ICT by which a teacher can
communicate with their students that are given below-
Verbal- Sharing of information with the help of speech is commonly referred to as verbal
method of communication. It is readily understood in spoken words as well as ensure that stress
on tone and voice is made. Moreover, it is ensured that right kind of words are used to express so
that appropriate knowledge can be transferred to the listener.
There are various benefits that are attached to adoption of verbal communication method.
One of them is each party can resolve the issues on spot. It is easy to communicate in spoken
words rather than enacting the same to the listener. It reduces the chances of miscommunication
to the minimum. It is considered to be more reliable method of communication which is flexible
and effective enough to be adopted at the workplace. It is considered to be a powerful tool,
commonly used for persuasion and control. Another advantage of the same is that it is cheaper
source of communication to be adopted and hence saves money of the management.
However, there are certain disadvantages that are attached to verbal form of communication.
Emotions are readily visible which may create issues in certain cases. It does not carry any legal
validity and hence can be problematic in certain situations. The tool cannot be adopted when the
individual is communicating with distant people and it may not be suitable method for
communicating lengthy messages as well. Hence, the method can be suitable at some places but
can be ineffective at various as well (Wu and et.al. 2012).

Media- It is considered to be another method of communication where various attractive
visuals are taken into considered while communicating knowledge to the listener. Its main
benefit that it attracts to the students or provides them better information because it uses audio,
video, graphs, image etc. Hence, there are chances of generating better output since better
understanding of facts and figures are initiated through this method. With the help of this,
receiver can understand things in better manner. The method is effective to increase efficiency
and understanding of the employees where they can give their best to the compony ultimately
fulfilling the aims and objectives of the same.
However, there are certain limitations that are attached to it. These are, some people may not
be able to understand the visual language and hence require proper written format to convey the
message to the ultimate listener. The media method of communication may not be effective if the
individual does not hold any knowledge of reading graphs and pie chart.
As per the theory of Piaget, his belief concentrated on cognitive development with helps in
leading to the growth and development. However, as per the views of Vygotsky viewed language
as a development of thought. The first development in a child is said to be in the form of speech
development which can affect the growing age. Bernstein theory of communication is related to
sociolinguistic development in the individual in the form of language codes. In this theory, the
researcher have directly stated the direct correlation between societal classes and language
between he individual. Hence, all the three theories have their own benefits whose adoption can
ultimately benefit the overall development of a child in the classroom in terms of language.

 I took feedback from learners for improving my own skills and knowledge so that I can
