SELECTION OF TEAM MEMBERS
This paper is based on the selection of the team members for the several tasks and
positions of a project. The objective of this paper is to select team members from five people
for the role of End user, Business analyst and Team leader. The following paragraph will
illustrate the main responsibility of each role and identify the skills that would be required to
perform the roles. The skills of the five people will be identified in order to determine the role
that they can perform and they will be selected for the one of the three roles based on their
skills.
Role of End user:
An End user is the person for whom the software program is designed and who uses
or tests the final product. The end user is a person who implements a software after it has
been developed (Goulden, 2014). The main responsibility of the end user in the project is to
use and test the software that is developed by the developers and give their feedback
regarding the efficiency of the product or inform if any modification is required for the
product.
The end user do not require to have the knowledge of developing any software.
However, an end user must have basic computer and technological knowledge to use and test
the efficiency of the product. They should have the skills and techniques to test a software
and check if any modification is required (Davis, 2014). The end users are also required to
have good communication skills as they are required to give their feedback about the product
to the team.
Chris is fit for the role of end user as he is new in IT department, therefore he does not
have experience of developing a software, however he has experience in software testing
techniques. He will be able to test the efficiency of the software as he is an undergraduate in

computer science and have knowledge of software testing. He is available for 24 hours in a
week which is the efficient time required to test the software after it is developed.
There was confusion in choosing between Chris and Jan for the role of end user as
they both are new to IT department and have basic technological knowledge. This was the
major problem that was encountered during the selection of end user. However, Chris was
selected he was available for more time in less amount in comparison to Jan.
Role of Business analyst:
The role of the business analyst in the project is to ensure that the developed product
meet the requirements to the clients or stakeholders (Nicholas & Steyn, 2017). The
significant responsibility of a business analyst is to communicate with stakeholders, gather
their requirements and inform the team members to ensure that the end product will meet the
requirements.
The most essential skill that a business analyst is required to have is good
communication as they are required to communicate with the stakeholders to know their
requirements (Wiegers & Beatty, 2013). The business analyst should also have the
knowledge about the software or product that their team will be providing as they are
required to give presentation about the features of the product to their clients or stakeholders
(Permana, 2015). The business analyst should understand all the requirements of the
stakeholders and then inform the team members about their requirements.
Robin is suitable for the role of the business analyst in this project as she was
involved in two previous upgrades as a business analyst. She does not have strong web
programming skills, however she has worked as programmer in the development of a custom
web based application that would help her in understanding the requirements of the clients in
an efficient manner.

The problem encountered during the selection of business analyst was that Pat was
more suitable for this role based in his skills as he has good technological knowledge that
would help him in understanding the requirements. However, he was available for only 24
hours in a week that was extremely less than the time a business analyst is required to work.
Therefore, Robin was selected as she was available for at least 30 hours.
Role of Team leader:
The team leader is required to lead and manage the team members in a such a manner
that they provide an efficient result (Barna, 2013). The responsibility of a team leader is to
guide the members of the team during the process of developing the project. The team leaders
are required to manage the time and tasks of the members to ensure that efficient result will
be provided by their team.
The team leader should have good time management skills as they are required to
manage the entire team (Woodcock, 2017). They must be an excellent decision maker as they
have to make the decisions about the project on behalf of their team. They should also have
knowledge about the projects and should be a good motivator for their team members (Hoch
& Kozlowski, 2014).
Terry is selected for the role of team leader as she can work as developer or tester,
therefore she would be able to guide the members of the team. She must have good
communication skills as she works as business analyst, therefore she will be capable of
communicating with the team members.
There was problem in selecting the team leader as none of the five people had worked
as team leader. Therefore, it was difficult to select the team leader as no one was having the
skills of a leader or guide.
