TELECOMMUNICATION AND NETWORK
Introduction
This report is a brief study about the business requirements of the company cookie co.
for the purpose of betterment of its business procedure. Cookie Co. is one of the store for
cookies which has business that runs all around the country. But after the increased business it
started to face various problems like the slow network interrupted phone calls and many mare
technical difficulties. They have decided to dump their entire IT infrastructure for the purpose
maintaining their reputation. This report briefs about the possible solution that the company
can adopt so as maintain is reputation.
Network convergence and unified network:
Network convergence refers to the presence of telephone, video and data
communication simultaneously in a singular network (Duchi Agarwal and Wainwrigh 2012). A
greater amount of convenience and flexibility is produced when several modes of
communication are present in a single network. This type of advantageous situation does not
exist in case of multiple infrastructures. There are various difficulties which are faced by the
converged networks (Ghezzi Cortimiglia and Frank 2015). Firstly, the demand for the bandwidth
is the most important difficulty faced by these network because of the fact that most of the
applications and the services uses the same single network. The company should plan of having
a larger bandwidth so as that all the services they are providing is supported by all the devices
of the user who are going to use their network. The company should also think of applying
redundancy to their network so that in case of any failure no problem arises. By the use of
unified network, they can organise their business much more easily and can gain instant
knowledge about the status of their operations.
LAN:
LAN or Local Area Network is a group of connected computer that share the same
communication system. Cookie CO. can gain a lot of advantages by the use of LAN system in

their head offices and their different branches (Ge et al. 2012). By the use of LAN, they can
centralise their IT infrastructure which will make it easier for them to control and manage every
computer present inside their organisation. Besides this the security of the IT infrastructure also
increases as every network system has a firewall to protect the privacy and besides that it can
also help in eliminating the data loss. LAN can increase the performance of the company as
well. The company can use the network for backing up their data into the servers. LAN can help
in use of the same IT equipment’s to different workers of the company thereby decreasing the
cost for different operations. Besides all this advantages LAN can also help the company to
provide a better service to the customers. This type of network will allow the employees of the
company to work from different locations thereby facilitating business progression (Vleugels
and Peeters Ozmo 2012). The company can also have a real time track of the different
operations performed in the different departments of the company. But this can only help in
connecting offices that are situated close to one another.
WAN
WAN or wide area network is used for connecting devices which are situated a longer
distance. The functioning of a WAN is almost similar to that of a LAN along with its benefits but
the most advantageous thing which the company Cookie co. can get is that it can connect with
different branches that are situated at a longer geographical distance (Ramakrishnan et al.
2013). The company can have a connection with different units that are situated at a longer
distance and can have a better connection with them. Along with this better connectivity the
security features of WAN is more than that of the LAN. WAN s created using a leased line rather
than using a broadband connection as in case LAN thereby providing a faster speed than LAN
with faster uploads initially leading to the betterment of the company (Zhang et al. 2012).
Transmission media:
Transmission media is nothing but the medium which is used for transmitting data
between two or more devices. This can act as a guide. Transmission media includes various

technologies like the telephone wire, optic fibres or a wireless technology like the Wi-Fi or a
mobile network. Wireless transmission medium helps in providing a greater flexibility to the
business as it has the ability to penetrate any of the physical barriers and is very much easy to
install. Wireless mediums are also easy to maintain thereby helping the company to reduce the
maintenance costs. This medium can also help the company to have a large number of
customers as well. In case of wired transmission medium, the security of the company increases
as the devices of the company are connected physically to each other providing access to only
authorised users only (Fuchs and Gerszberg 2017). The speed of the business is also unaffected
due to environmental conditions as the wired networks provides a reliable network speed.
IP and DNS management:
The company Cookie CO. might face a lot of problem if they do not use the proper tools
for the management of the IP address. They must use the Internet Protocol Address
Management or IPAM so as to have a reliable, much secured and a very well maintained
network. If the IPAM is not proper, then the company can face devastating consequences. By
the use of IPAM the organisation can have an easy and a much quicker way of accessing the
information’s of the networks in detail (Kulkarni and Agrawal 2014). Besides this the IPAM also
increases the security of the network used by Cookie co. IPAM also looks into the matter that
same IP address is not assigned to more than one device. By the use of DNSimple, the company
can be free from a confusing and a complicated domain. Besides that, they also won’t be facing
difficulty due to increase in price also. By the use of DNService the company Cookie Co. can
have a DNS and a domain management system that is excellent the effort that will be used by
them will also be less (Bajgoric 2014). The company can also use this for the purpose of
supporting their customer demands at a faster rate.

USE OF VARIOUS NETWORK SERVICES:
The company Cookie CO. can plan for the deployment of various network services in
their business some of the proposed network services like WWW, VoIP and many more can be
used by them.
The use of VoIP can help Cookie Co. reduce their cost as the use of VoIP are much
cheaper than that of the normal phones. Besides this the facilities provided by VoIP is much
more comforting. For the use of VoIP, the company just have to log in by the use of the
broadband connection. Along with all this the VoIP also provides more facilities like video
calling and many more (Ahmed Madani and Siddiqui 2013). This can help the company to get in
touch with the staffs and the customers very easily.
The use of email can also help Cookie Co. get in touch with its customers and staffs very
easily. By the use of email, they can reach to any one at any part of the world and as most of
the email services are free so the process of sending email saves a lot of money of the company
along with saving time required for travelling and other purposes to carry any information
(Lorette 2013). The option of email encryption also provides security to the information that
will be delivered ensuring that the data are secure.
Cookie Co. can also use the internet for the purpose of continuing their business. Use of
World Wide Web (WWW) can help them gain attention of large number of customers. They can
use the internet as well as platform for the purpose of promoting their business. The most
important advantage that Cookie co. can get by the use of the internet is that it is cost effective
that is the cost of using the internet for business purpose is very low (Chen Chiang and Storey
2012).
Cookie Co. can also use the extranet for the purpose of doing their business more
effectively. They can use the extranet for the purpose increasing their supply chains and also
decrease the cost providing online manuals to the customers and their business partners (El
Husseini et al. 2012).

Data storage solution:
The best way of storing data is by the use of clouds. Cookie Co. can use the cloud
services for the purpose of storing their data. They can store their data besides maintaining
them and creating regular backups. Along with providing storage the cloud provides also
ensures the security of the data that is being stored in the cloud. So by the use of cloud services
can be confident about the security of their data. But before storing any data into the cloud the
company must look into the matter that their data is encrypted and can only be accessed by the
authorised users (Wang et al. 2013). Along with storing data in the cloud the company can also
recover the data that they have stored in the cloud in cases of a disaster or any type of data
loss.
Data processing solution:
The company cookie co. can make use of the P2P data processing as it has a lot of
advantages. The P2P or peer-to-peer is very much easy to install and the process for configuring
the computers on this type of network is also easy. The elimination of the central dependence
makes the use of P2P (Lee and Lee 2012) more reliable for the company. This happens because
of the fact that if one peer fails then the functions of the other peers are not affected. The most
important advantage that will be provided to company by the use of P2P is that there is no
requirement of the administrator on a fulltime basis. And the cost of building this type is
infrastructure is comparatively less than any other type of systems.
Conclusion:
The above report helps us to conclude that by the use of various new technologies and
new ways of storing and processing the data can help the company to maintain its reputation
amongst the customers. In the report we can see that if the company uses VoIP rather than
conventional phones than they can avoid the problems of distorted and unreliable phone calls
along with that they can also save a lot of money as well. By adopting the above mentioned

strategies and the new technologies they not only can manage their business at the current
stage but also can gain a lot of reputation and profits in the coming future.
